The National Hotel, an adult-only oceanfront resort, garners applause for its unbeatable location near South Beach and local attractions. While the stylish rooms and cleanliness are often praised, some guests have pointed out issues with noise and housekeeping inconsistency. The ambiance, with its chic and vibrant environment, particularly around the pool, is a highlight among travelers. Despite commendations for friendly staff and well-maintained beach amenities, reviews are mixed regarding service and value, with several guests feeling costs are excessive for the offered experience.

We stayed here with a group for the CFB National Championship game. This was the second time we’ve stayed at the National and it didn’t disappoint! We knew some things would be different due to COVID but honestly it didn’t affect our enjoyment. We stayed in a cabana suite on the 3rd floor and the view was really nice. We spent most of our time at the heated pool - it was SO warm! The pool area does get a lot of shade and could be a bit chilly, wished there was a little more sun but I’m sure I’d feel differently come summer! Drink and food service by the pool was outstanding! Thank you to Darwin, Andres and Johanna for taking care of our crazy bunch!! The prices are a bit high and food choice is a bit limited but all was so tasty and of a high quality! There was no room cleaning service due to COVID which wasn’t a big deal as we were only there 3 nights. They brought new towels when we asked. One thing I would suggest is to add more/larger trash cans and trash bags to the rooms. They filled quickly and we didn’t always have a spare shopping bag to gather and empty them. Overall we had a great little getaway from the gray skies of Ohio, even if our Bucks didn’t get the win. Also, big thanks to Paul at the front door - he kept our bags for us, gave us directions and always greeted us with a great (masked) smile and wave!! Hopefully we’ll be back again sometime!

We love to work hard and then take a “parents only” vacation at least quarterly. The most relaxing and beautiful place we go, outside of our hometown of San Diego, CA, is Miami, Florida. It sounds selfish to go to an adult only hotel, but when we leave our 3 boys under 5 years old we absolutely deserve the best vacation.

We first discovered the hidden gem in the heart of South Beach Miami in August 2021. We stayed for one evening on the tail end of an international anniversary trip. We went to Jamaica, Bahamas and then stopped to have 1 fun night in Miami, FL before heading home.

The National Hotel is so amazing and had such a lasting impression that we booked the first weekend of Dec 2021 as soon as we left in August!

There are many reasons why we fell in love with this hotel; however, we will name a few.

1. We were greeted by the most kind, courteous and helpful staff by the name of GERMAN. He is the most delightful person and had no problems answering all of our questions about the property and everything else we needed around South Beach. He even told us to come back in December for Art Basel and it was the best decision ever to return for that spectacular weekend. We were able to see German and again and he helped us in the same way that he had before keeping the bar super high. We are very impressed with his customer service and patience with us a guests.

2. The food, especially the red snapper sandwich with a side of fresh fruit, will satisfy your tastebuds as you enjoy this unique dish. We also love the Bloody Marys and Mojotos!

3. The rooms are very clean and modern with Art Deco feel and we love that they don’t waste all of those hygiene products like other hotels. They dare unique because they have large refillable containers on the wall of the shower.

4. When you visit you must take a swim in the most amazing, heated pool outside. It seems like 12 feet wide and probably 100 yards long. When we visited in August it was warm and the we were enjoying it and it was the perfect place to socialize and meet other friendly hotel guests.

5. The outside patio in back has a locked door that you can access with your hotel wristband that is just steps from Miami Beach. Basically a 3-5 minute walk to the beach.

6. We love that our key is the wristband, so it doubles for security and access. You know who is a hotel guest and who may not be.

7. There is beautiful art everywhere and this year we attended Art Basel with art by Dimka who painted giant Koi fish and flowers on the roof of the hotel.

There are so many amazing things about our experience at the National Hotel Miami that make us want to visit again. We travel to a lot of places, but this hotel is our favorite place to visit when we want to relax, eat, drink and be merry.

Thanks,
Ashley & Lindsey Head

We love art deco style and this hotel this hotel was a feast for the eyes with period acents everywhere.
The location is South Beach of Miami was perfect since it allowed walking to the beach, restaurants, and walking tour of the art deco historic distract. Room a little small due to the historic nature of the building, but large enough. Loved the walk in shower and all wall mounted amenities in the bathroom eliminating the need to fumble with small bottles. Clean and comfortable.

This location just a total scam!!!

booking dates :May 2, 2021- May 4th 2021

First issue the hotel attempted to debit my credit card for the wrong amount twice around 6:00pm on the 1st night I was there. I was advised at check in that my charges would be finalized at check out. I was out at a wedding and my phone was off until 9:00pm. I had no voicemail or email from the location upon turning on my phone. I arrived back to the location around 10:00pm only to find out that the hotel had locked me out my room.

I went down to the front desk to find out that my doors were locked because a payment was needed for my room charge in the full amount of $880. Mind you, I had paid for a full night stay back in March and again had been advised that all charges are finalized at the end of stay. On top of that the amount was totally incorrect. With another 30 minutes off my time wasted I paid $547 so that I can gain access to my room.

The treatment of hotel guest at this location is poor, and services are nonexistence. I would go over additional reason to why my sore is so low.

Lies from hotel management about accommodations and open / activities. The pool is closed at 7pm daily, there are no yoga classes, WIFI password was never provided, no housekeeping, and they ran out of towels, I was provided rags on my 3rd day.

Booking hiding fees: this hotel charges an addition $30-$60 per night in fees which are not located on the booking. (Please get a copy of all fee’s before booking)

Covid restriction: I had to sign a waiver upon arrival that I would follow the hotels covid guidelines. Which includes wearing a face mask at all times within the property. Saturday night there was a booked party at the hotel which included over 250 guests, non-had face mask on and the management did not seem to care. When this was brough to the night time managers attention his response was for me to “keep my mask on and all should be well. “

Needless to say, the pool closes at 7pm to guest so that the hotel can host late night events that way none of the hotel guest will be in the way. The is a full money grab and the covid 19 pandemic is being used an excuse to increase sells.

Construction: I was awakened daily by construction which the hotel failed to notify me off, I also experience hearing construction at night between the hours of 8:00pm –10:40pm. I was on the top floor and could hear every sound, I had sleepless nights.

We’ve stayed at the National a few times over the years and really enjoy this classic, stylish, adults only hotel.

Everyone we interacted with from the front desk to the bartenders and waiters right down to the cleaning service is extremely nice and professional plus our location with a great pool and the beach available with full service makes it special.

Our room was a suite (very competitively priced Vs other hotels in South Beach) with a very comfortable bed and stylish retro furniture, consistent with their embrace of the late 1930’s when the hotel was built.

Right outside the front of the Hotel is some great eating either at the hotel or very close by. It’s our go-to hotel for South Beach.

Just spent 5 nights at the this hotel. Check in was seamless except they neglected to tell us that 1 of the 2 elevators were broken, or that we had to schedule housekeeping services. Pool attendants were rude. Had to request towels for room on day 3 and that is when we were told we had to schedule housekeeping. We asked if they could just bring us towels and pick up garbage, which they did, but only emptied one garbage can and left the dirty towels. On day 4 we requested at the front desk that the shower gel dispersed be refilled, which they never did. Additionally the restrooms for pool and beach never had soap or toilet paper. Also this adult only resort had 4 kids running around the pool.

Great location and nice, attentive staff. The rooms are nicely updated. Thats where the good ends. Only one elevator works. You have to share with staff, construction crews, and other guests. this is humorous because they are taking so many cautions about "COVID" that they are missing the big things...ie...not having enough elevators to social distance. One day both elevators were not working. The situation is so bad a staff member even joked about it. This was particularly frustrating as we were on the 11th floor and had to use stairs a number of times either because it was too crowded or couldn't wait anymore. The bathrooms by the pool were poorly maintained as some did not have functioning dryers, lacked soap dispensers, or had faucets with barely enough water to wet your hands. The workout room had leaking water, the tv did not work and many of the bikes and treadmills didn't work properly (and was eventually closed). Our internet tv (i.e. Netflix) only worked one day of our stay and overall wifi was spotty during our stay. Music at the pool incredibly loud. We were very disappointed many of the amenities are canceled or limited hours due to COVID-19. While I understand some (i.e. spa), I don't understand why there's no concierge (yet its still listed on your website). Many of the Covid precautions simply came across as ways to cut costs and seemed cheap (i.e. They won't let you bring outside food in unless you bring it to your room). Fire Alarms went off and staff acted like it was a normal thing and didn't inform guests. Wont be back.

We've stayed here about three times over the last several years usually when we're getting ready to go on a cruise. Normally it's just one night this time we came down and stayed two nights. The two pools are excellent. You have a very long lap pool probably about 300 ft. It's not heated so it tends to be cool in the winter time. The heated pool is about the size of what one would expect for a hotel like this. It is heated and was very comfortable no matter what the air temperature is. The staff is excellent and always willing to go that extra distance. We're pretty easy we usually don't ask her much of anything so we didn't really test them at their extreme so to speak. We try not to be needy people. Out by the pool you can get a nice snack earlier in the day. A little later in the day you can get actually a pretty darn good meal brought to your area that you're sitting at by the pool. I do have a nice restaurant in house we've eaten there before. Trying to pronounce it will not be easier it's Marvea. Breakfast and lunch are pretty standard but definitely decent. They are a bit pricey which is typical in a hotel we are right on the beach like this. Dinner time they've got some pretty nice meals there you can get some very nice entree's. Short ribs is one of their signature dishes I definitely would highly recommend that. I do have a nice concierge desk that can help you with any kind of destinations if you're looking to eat elsewhere that sort of thing. We know the area pretty well so we usually pretty much venture off on our own. Should you need a cab or transportation because yours could arranged that for you very easily. They do have a nice office area if you wanted to conduct a little business number of computer stations there. They definitely have done renovations over the last few years we've noticed things have been spiffed up a lot of new paint and polishes to say bathrooms are very nice. It's pretty tough to totally renovate a place top to bottom especially when it's a historical building because you have limitations as to what you're allowed to do. Overall I think they've done a very good job of fixing things up. It was never really what I considered worn down but you know obviously needed a little bit of spit and polish that usually happens in an old place. Most of the art Deco hotels in the area are doing the same thing and a lot of cases they get bought out by a large company and they sock a lot of money into it. Prices are pretty standard for a old hotel like this so I usually somewhere around the it's like 200 some odd dollars. but like most of these type of hotels is always those little hidden things such as the fees for the resort something's got to pay for the pool something has to help pay for the staff. So if your room is say about $250 by the time you're done with obviously taxes and then the fees it comes out to about $330. Overall a very nice day we will likely stay there again next year when we come down for our cruise.

Before booking our hotel, I used a 3rd party company. Their descriptions of the room were not worded the same as the hotel's room descriptions. Just to be safe I called the hotel while I was online booking the hotel. The employee who stayed on the phone with me while I booked our rooms ensured me that yes, this is the room you're looking for (we needed 2 beds per room to accommodate our party). I once again called ahead of our visit to double check that there were 2 beds per room and the hotel ensured me, yes there was. We also requested an early check in when we called to confirm about the beds and they said it was noted in the computer and shouldn't be an issue since it was a slow week. I also called 4 x's and left a message to book a bottle of champagne sent to the room and nobody ever called me back. Fast forward, we check in with Charina and she handed me the keys at 4:10 pm (no early check in like we requested) and sure enough we open the door to both rooms and there is ONE BED. So I went downstairs to ask for a Manager (Luis). Luis listened to my story and just nodded his head and when I was finished talking he told me he can give me the room with 2 beds for $80 per room per night. I thought that good customer service means giving the customer the benefit of the doubt and maybe an apology that 2 employees that are under my supervision made a mistake.... But no, Luis wanted to just charge us more money for a tiny little room with a run down bathroom with smelly towels. He called or pretended to call the employee that I described and told me that yes, the employee remembers you calling but he never told you that there were 2 beds in a room. I wish i recorded the conversation because you really can't trust people's word or that this company would provide honest and good customer service. I ended up paying $40 per room per night, and was hit with an additional $470.00 worth of taxes and "resort fees" even though we still had to pay $20.00 for an umbrella and $20.00 per towel each day. Im not too sure what their resort fee covers since they don't treat guests like they are at a resort. Finally, I went downstairs to pay the additional scam fees at 9:00 am so we can check out and leave. My friends called me at 9:40 telling me that someone was banging on our doors kicking us out of our room. Check out is at 11:00. Our uber was ordered at 9:45 and we had another hour if we wanted in the room but we were treated like garbage.
If you're looking to stay in a run down hotel who has to pay for every little thing you do, plus pay a fee for who knows what for... then this is your hotel!! Otherwise, most of the neighboring hotels on collins are pretty decent and we have never been treated this way before elsewhere!

In order to disclose information, we would like to clarify the issues reported on this feedback: .- although that an early check in is requested we do not guarantee, our check in time starts at 4 PM, but even so, after your arrival time (at 12:44 PM) we made you a phone call at 2:33 PM letting you know that your room was ready, checking you in at 1:13 PM in the rooms already mentioned on the review, checking you in both of your rooms not even an hour after your arrival time, and before our guarantee check in time (4 PM). .- At the moment you come back and asked for a room with 2 beds, your check in into one of those rooms was at 2:34 PM, then again before our guarantee check in time (at 4 PM). .- About the amenities requested, I personally verified with our concierge team, whom confirmed your request and it was going to be delivered to your room at 4 PM as the email confirmation sent by our concierge team specified, and it was confirmed by me personally to you after your checked in (before 4 PM), that accordingly to your words was going to be ok because of your preparations for that room for the special occasion you were celebrating, and of course after verifying with our concierge team, they rushed the request. .- Your reservation although it was made for a room with just 1 bed, we were able to accommodate your needs and locate both rooms close to each other, in the same floor that you were on your previous rooms, and with the best possible upgrade fee due to the misunderstanding between you and our reservation's agent, confirmed by me after I personally verified after having that conversation mentioned on the review. .- About our resort fee benefits you can go online and confirmed in our website all the items included, although we do not includes beach umbrellas (you can rent them for $19 per day, in the third party company that provides us the beach service. towels are included in the service, you do not have to pay for them, and they are available 24/7 due to our pools working as well 24/7. .- Indeed our check out time is at 11 AM, and as shown on our system both rooms checked out around 9:30 AM, I apologies for the misunderstanding, our front desk agent must heard that you were checking out instead of settling the bill and staying until your regular check out time. After reviewing all the details, and clarifying what needed it to be clarified, once again I'm deeply sorry that you did not feel the 5 star service that we provide to our customers, I hope you can come back and give us the opportunity to change that. Best Regards Luis Bonillo AFOM

Hotel hosted a wedding on Friday night that required all guests to remove themselves from both pool areas from 3pm to 8pm. Then the music from the wedding was so loud we couldn't peacefully enjoy our adults only resort premium room at over $1000/night. Bungalo hanging chair failed when sitting in it and was injured with no follow up from the hotel as to an accident report for insurance purposes. Quite a huge failure in customer service all the way around.

Not to the pool but you can to the beach. I am unsure how much the lifeguards or beach patrol enforce local drinking ordinances.

We did the two days excursion. On the first day, we did the Big Bus Tour. It has 8 stops. The one that I would say is worth consideration is Little Havana to try out some authentic Cuban food. On the second day, we stopped at Biscayne Bay (shopping and restaurants) and went on the boat ride through the Miami harbour. The tour guide on the baat was light-hearted and informative. Doing both tours in a day would be a lot especially with all the Miami traffic downtown and on the bridges.

"Dress well. In November the attire of most of the guests was beach-chic during the day and stylish/dressy in the evening. "
