The place was pleasant but the experience wasn’t the one I expected. The door of our room broke at 3am and we were stuck outside with no mean to get in. We had to sleep in an other room without any of our meds, pyjamas etc. The manager said we would have a compensation but never received it. Worst, a 50$ deposit have been debited from my account (while in every other hostel I went, they only took a bank imprint) and they never gave it back. It has been almost one month, and they didn’t replied to my email or phone call, and my bank can’t do anything for me. I want my money back.

I had high hopes for this hostel but on my arrival I was brought down to reality. There were a few issues, from the girl on check-in not being engaging or friendly at all seemed more interested in her phone & could only conjure up one word reply’s to my questions. Our room seemed half done, this is a hotel that freehand has only half renovated, the 4 bed dorm had great beds but the bathroom had not been renovated since the 70’s. What Can I say about the air conditioning even on the lowest setting it was like a train was travelling through the room the whole night, I had to wear ear plugs & even then I found it difficult to sleep. The wifi was also nonexistent in our room to not have wifi in room in 2022 is unacceptable I had to regularly go to the main reception area just to send a few messages. The outdoor area was nice with a cool bar and swimming pool, that was the only redeeming feature of the property.

Freehand truly was the ideal place for my friends and I to get away and enjoy Miami Beach. Everyone at Freehand was always so accommodating and provided us with everything we needed so that the time we spent here was as relaxing as can be. Special shout-out to Eric for always answering our questions and making us feel at home. Can not wait to come back to this place for another magical getaway.

Do not be deceived by the photos on their website. This place is a hostel, not a hotel (yet they will still charge upwards of $600/night for some of their rooms). They clearly took over a decrepit old motel, put some new paint on it and a few neon signs and called it "new." It is dingy in person and smells like cat pee, or chemical cleaner used to mask the smell of cat pee. If you don't care much about your lodging than this is fine, I supposed, but it's worth it to pay a little extra and stay somewhere else with better hygiene practices. The staff is also incredible rude and makes it very clear that they are *extremely* inconvenienced by even the smallest ask, like a new room key, a toothbrush or a luggage rack (they don't have either of the last two things). Food and drinks are OK, so do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else and just visit here for drink one night.

The staff are super helpful, the space felt like I was on an island resort. Great pool, fun people and amazing food at the restaurant! Great location to pick up the trolley that takes you around Miami Beach. I look forward to visiting again.

My friends and I had a great time at Freehand Miami. The lounge and the pool are are so well-designed and really pleasant to spend time in. It's incredible that the front desk offers both beach towels and umbrellas for free (you just leave your id to hold them), that definitely improved our trip greatly. We stayed in a 4-bed mixed dorm, which was overall very clean, the beds were comfortable, and while it was small, it was enough space to move around and store your things. The bathroom was actually really nice compared to other hostels, it was clean, spacious and the shower had great water pressure. My only complaints about the bathroom were that there was no shelf in the shower (nowhere to put your bottles/soap) and no outlets (I had to blow dry my hair in the hallway). The light in the room had a dimmer which I thought was a nice touch, and there was a little cubby in each bed area along with outlets and a lamp, all very convenient for nighttime. Finally, one other little thing that was missing was a curtain on the bed for privacy (I've seen other hostels do this), and it would have also helped to block the AC that was blasting directly on me, but we had to keep it cold because the upper bunks got too hot at night. I've left some suggestions directly with the hostel, so if they implement them this would easily become one of my favorite hostel experiences!

There is no kitchen or even a fridge provided. That is very inconvenient for a hostel. There are cafe and groeries nearby, but as a solo traveler, you expect a place to at least store some milk and cold cuts.
