My wife and I stayed at the Avalon for a short vacation on Miami Beach. Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Avalon. The main reasons I chose this hotel initially was the location (right across from the beach), the fact that they provide beach towels and beach chairs, and the cost. The service was exceptional. All the workers there were very friendly, helpful, and flexible from the front desk reception (George), to the folks serving breakfast, the manager & waiter (Alejandro) at the hotel restaurant, and the cleaners. I didn't expect much from the advertised breakfast but it was very fresh, tasty, and filling each day. I also liked that the hotel restaurant is not open every day/night so that we were able to sit out on the patio for breakfast/lunch or whenever we wanted to take a break. The overall atmosphere at the hotel was more relaxed and subdued compared to the neighboring hotels. Note that the rooms in this hotel are on the small side as this is a historic, art-deco hotel. This was fine with us but don't expect large rooms like most modern, newly built hotels. Some of the negatives of this hotel are that the walls are very thin and unfortunately we were unlucky to have very noisy and inconsiderate neighbors. Our first night we had a neighbor with a deep, loud voice and later that night another neighbor above us suddenly started playing music loudly at 4 am. The second night another neighbor thought it was a good idea to crank music at 11:30pm which seemed to come through the walls and bathroom vent which amplified the sound like a speaker. The front desk tried to call the room but the guests would not answer. The front desk would not go to the room to tell them to turn down or stop the music so I'm assuming that is the hotel policy. I don't blame the hotel for guest behavior and appreciate the hotel moving us to a different room that night and the following morning we moved our belongings to that room as well. We didn't have any problem the remaining nights. The hotel gives bottled water each day as part of the resort fee but they are the mini-ones which was pretty lame. Other hotels have ice water dispensers in their lobbies for the guests and I hope Avalon does this in the future as we would most likely look to stay there again.

Hotel's Favorite
Recently stayed at The Avalon Hotel and could not have been happier! For many years we stayed just to up the road and would often pass this hotel and admire the Hotels iconic “1955 Oldsmobile 88” parked in front, so cool! We had friends that booked the hotel and decided to join them for the weekend after being cooped up with COVID. We are so pleased we went as the hotel was just what we needed; A truly genuine caring service team, very nice clean room and some of the best food at Fish called Avalon restaurant in the hotel. Above all they handled COVID protocols with such grace and made us feel comfortable knowing how clean the hotel is. Would highly recommend and look forward to a December visit for my birthday.

We had an absolutely lovely evening at the Avalon. The service was extraordinary as was the food. Our waiter was amazing (so sorry I did not catch his name) and so knowledgeable about all the selections. We sat out on the porch with a lovely view of Ocean Drive. Thank you for a terrific memory!

The challenges for hotels and restaurants on Ocean Drive since Covid hit, have been monumental. The drive is closed to vehicular traffic from a half block away, and parking can be a bit difficult when you have physical mobility limitations. The Avalon is a small and older hotel, which has maintained it's historic charm throughout the development of the monstrous "brass and glass" hi-rise development of the Miami waterfront. The rooms are smaller (think 1950's and 60's) with comfortable beds and pristine linens. Who goes to Miami Beach to sit in a hotel room anyway? Towels and soap/shampoo are plentiful. Beach chairs and towels are provided for you free of charge. Breakfast, which is included in your reservation price is a choice of 2 lunch boxes. We found this odd, but realized you could take your breakfast box anywhere you wanted, beach, room, terrace or indoor dining room (on white table cloths). People leaving early for flights, took their lunchbox to go. Convenient concept actually. The staff are warm and friendly throughout the hotel...and very helpful. Avalon has managed to keep a standard of exceptional service throughout some very difficult times. If you stay at the Avalon, make reservations to eat at their restaurant "A Fish Called Avalon". The cuisine is superb, and you may choose to dine indoors or out, on their beautifully lit terrace or 'street arbor' on Ocean Drive. The food is outstanding! Mr Cruize the Brazilian-born guitarist and singer provides an amazing backdrop to dinner. He pulled out all the stops on our 2nd night there and his playing was magical...especially his own compositions. Looking around the dining area there were people of all ages and from all over the world absolutely captivated by his amazing talent. Avalon is a gem of a hotel and I personally hope it never changes. I would however like to see the elevator fixed soon!

Exceeded our expectations! Family of 4 (kiddos 12,9) We had the best room on the corner with a view of the ocean and Ocean Dr. The hotel is only 3 stories high and so charming. The breakfast and coffee was great on the patio of the hotel every morning. Walk to the beach and use the provided chairs and towels. You can definitely hear the music and sounds of Ocean Dr from the room but it didn’t bother any of us. The staff was always so nice. Fast wifi. Can’t wait to come back.
