This is our second stay at the Holiday Inn Port of Miami Downtown. We last stayed in 2018. First of all the location is excellent. Directly across from Bayside and less than 5-10 minutes from the port of Miami. The upper floors have the best views especially on the bayside. Bayside, the port and the bay can all be seen from the upper floors. We were in 1005 and the view was great. We arrived around 430pm and was met by Daniel at check in. He was very friendly and efficient. We were in the room in less than 10 minutes. The hotel was in the same condition as in the previous stay. The negative reviews of the room are definitely not the rooms that I have stayed in. I have no complaints with the room or the condition of the hotel. No, the bed is not the best but I have definitely stayed with worse and is typical for a hotel in this price range. There was sufficient water pressure and hot water. The only issue we found was a broken lamp outlet but there was one on the wall within a short distance. We stayed two nights and had several encounters with the staff and each were very friendly. Check out was smooth as well. During our next Miami cruise we will definitely consider this as our first choice to stay.

Had a one bedroom suite with a descent size. The room was rundown with the need of an urgent upgrade. Breakfast was ok. The plus side of the hotel is the location, just across Bayside and besides the metrorail.

Location: The hotel is approximately 15-20 from MIA and around five minutes from the cruise port. It is across the street from Bayside Market Place (total tourist trap and best avoided). There is a CVS within a five minute walk from the hotel and there are numerous restaurants within a five minute walk. Watch out for Uber/Lyft scooters littering the sidewalks. They are a real eye sore in Miami. Check-in: It was quick and easy. We were upgraded to a larger executive room as my wife is an IHG member with a decent status. We received a voucher for a free drink as well. Room: The room was spacious but very dated and worn. Our room faced the Bay and we had lovely views. Our room had two queen beds (inconvenient but we did not complain as it was a larger room than the kind room we had booked), a sofa, a coffee table, a desk, an office chair and if I remember correctly an arm chair as well. The TV had a good selection of channels. Wifi: The complimentary wifi was adequate to check social media and e-mails. We did not attempt streaming anything. Breakfast: Holiday Inn often offers breakfast as an add on when booking and we added it for $8 per day per person. The service in the restaurant was very slow at breakfast even though it was not even at 50% of capacity. We stayed for around half an hour the first day and our empty plates and glasses were not removed from the table. The food selection is fair, it is not excellent but perfectly adequate if you paid $8 for it. Pool: The pool area was fairly nice. Overall: You do not stay at this hotel because it is a great hotel. You stay here because of the location. You get far more bang for your buck if you stay elsewhere. It is a old run down hotel. The elevators are outright scary but the staff at the hotel are great and the location cannot be beaten.

Pros: -check-in was quick -room was quiet -the breakfast buffet was good but about on par with most free continental breakfasts included elsewhere Cons: -parking was extremely difficult to find, no marking at the main entrance, just expected to drive around out back -what exactly is valet? I parked my own car and gave the guy my keys. After a long trip I wouldn’t consider it much of a service but more of an inconvenience to rely on someone to give me my keys back so I could leave -Rooms are old and in need of a major renovation -Room service was slow and the food was lousy Overall it was just a place to stay for us. You pay for the location which was convenient but that’s about it.
