The statement 'employees deal with complaints well' is not meant as a compliment. It should prompt the question 'why are complaints happening in the first place?'. The hotel is currently going through some renovation work. Not a problem as all hotels experience this at some point and the hotel has been quite transparent in disclosing this on its website. Should I really need to complain though about drilling right above my head at 7:30am? The drilling stopped as soon as I called reception, but drilling should not have been occurring above occupied rooms at 7:30am. The construction noise continued for the next few days, but was not too intrusive so I was patient and thought 'oh well .... one of those things'. My patience ran out though when power was cut to my room ..... 'twice'. At that point I requested a room change, which was accommodated without fuss and with apologies (I was upgraded .... for which I thank you). I cannot fault the way in which it was dealt, but .... again .... it is not a situation that should have arisen. I should not have to complain about construction work cutting the power to my room. One thing that really annoyed me was a back office associate hanging up on calls. Due to my work there were times I had to eat in my room (I did get out and enjoy Miami at other times .... I promise). I therefore called the 'at your service' line which goes through to the back office behind reception. The first time my call was either disconnected or the associate hung up. I called again ..... same thing. The third time she did not disconnect the call but let it ring until she was able to answer it. At that point I was pretty p'd off so told her not to bother. I fully appreciate that people can be busy, but ask yourself, should she: a - pick up the phone and say "I am so sorry I am currently dealing with another guest, I will be with you momentarily", or b - pick up the phone and say "I am so sorry I am currently dealing with another guest, I will call you back within the next 5 minutes", or c - ignore the guest and disconnect the call like you would in a budget motel. When I complained it was explained that 'she was new'. You should not have to train people on common sense. She also neglected to inform her manager that she had disconnected my call twice before answering it. I do not pay over $500 a night (including taxes) to get an associate disconnect my calls. Just a little tip about concierge rooms. A concierge room gives you access to the concierge lounge. The canapes and snacks from 5pm are pretty good, but that really is the only benefit. Apart from water and sodas, all drinks have to be paid for. This may be the norm in Miami, but when we have stayed in concierge rooms in Australia, Asia and also on US cruise lines, drinks tend to be complimentary. I am not talking about drinking enough to sink a battleship ...... but a complimentary glass of wine or two for concierge guests wouldn't kill you. This may be the norm for Americans .... but those not from the US may like to take note. The concierge room is also completely soulless. I would happily forgo a free breaded shrimp and buy my wine in a bar outside with atmosphere. Other minor issues like a $50 a day parking fee being added to my bill for a car I did not have and did not park. The employees are all gracious and polite, but the problems at this hotel are more the fault of senior management rather than frontline staff. Frontline staff deal with complaints wonderfully ...... but the point is that the complaints shouldn't be happening in the first place. Would I stay here again ...... NO.

Cesar was not accommodating for a premium stay I would expect that a bartender would be friendly but he was not. Looks like there’s an alternative Ritz and JW here and I’ll be spending my time there. We will not be coming back. He was direct and not what I expect from Marriott service.

Hello, I want to express my uncomfortable situation and paying a monthly fee for this service is pretty concerning. I use the gym every day to exercise, even though many times the machines are not working. Now, for the past 10 days, they have had only one working shower, and the other one, which has been out of order for a month, only has boiling water without cold water functioning. The cleanliness level is average, and the temperature in the equipment area, which used to be suitable for exercising, is now too hot. Every day, the quality keeps decreasing. I hope to see some improvements soon!

The hotel is in a good location but service has been on a steady decline over the years at this property. Your Bonvoy status isn’t worth much here, as is the case in most Marriott/Bonvoy properties these days. The pool deck is nice as is the lobby bar, but its in Miami, there are many hotels that are much nicer and newer. Unless you need to be in this specific location, there are better options in the area. I ate at the second floor restaurant and mentioned to the person who appeared to be running the bar/restaurant that they should let customers know as a courtesy that they are automatically charging 18% gratuity like most businesses do in Miami. He began to tell me that I must not travel much because it is common practice all over. I laughed and told him that I have been Ambassador elite or equivalent for over 15 years and have been to over 60 countries. But he continued to argue with me after I tried to stop the conversation. At check in, I asked about an upgrade and was offered a “different room in the newer part of the hotel.” I asked if this was an upgrade and the response was that it was a different room. So just semantics to appease me. He also had no idea what my status was until the end of the check in process when I asked about a possible upgrade. I should never even have to mention it or ask. That’s how it used to be….pre Bonvoy.

This was the first time I stayed downtown MIA. We had to change our flight from Fort lauderdale and the only flight was from MIA. We decided to stay near the airport to make the communte easier. They did not disappoint us! From the time of check in the front desk was very helpful. We requested extra towels and they came quickly. The service is top rate I work in the industry and would be the first to point out any improvements. Jason the night audit was great as we checked out at 4 am and was hel[ful. Got our car fast also It is close to Bayfront park. The fresh market is in waliking distance as well as other places to eat. I would suggest take the walkway along the water not the street as you get a much better view. Plan on going back for two nights so we can attend some of the places to visit.

Haven't been to Miami in many years and needed a place for one night. Brickell area was perfectly fine, kind of equidistant to the areas we wanted to go to. It is kind of a "scene" there on weekends, but we didn't care. Hotel was very accommodating with our requests, and staff was attentive and friendly.

My children and I stayed here for 1 night and it was terrible. At check in the staff were not especially friendly and for the most part it was difficult to speak to a member of staff that could be of any help with the issues we were having. We were looking forward to some sleep as we had been travelling and were awaiting a long flight home the next day. We were woken just after 7am to hammering, sawing and drilling in the room above us. I called reception to see what was happening. They were reluctant to explain it all and didn’t want to provide details, apologised and said they would sort it out as I explained my son had been feeling unwell and needed to sleep. The noise continued and on calling reception again nobody answered, no doubt as they didn’t want to have to deal with another complaint. When I got through some time later I was told the manager was ‘working on it’, but the noise only stopped momentarily and at that point we got up and went out as it was more relaxing than staying in our room. The cleaning staff also decided to have shouty conversations down the corridors first thing in the morning, making it even less relaxing (if that was possible). In addition to the noise, the Wi-Fi was down for the whole second day before we left and even the Wi-Fi in the lobby worked intermittently. Points are being issued back to us but really poor customer service; there was no apology or checking to see if issues were resolved and we got the feeling the staff really didn’t care at all. My advice would be avoid, avoid, avoid! A hotel should be a place where people can get some decent sleep undisturbed and you certainly won’t find this here.

We stayed here for two nights prior to a cruise. Beautiful lobby. Great location. Room and bathroom were fine. The pool area was exceptionally beautiful - but most of it was in the shade by mid-afternoon. There were a couple of dining options onsite. The waitress in the lobby bar (where we had drinks and bar food for dinner) was exceptionally nice. We really liked this hotel - but felt it was very expensive. Would recommend and stay again if we could get it at a better price.
