Let me start off by saying I don’t usually write reviews. I usually just let it go if I have a less than idea time and never go back but the attitude I received from the hotel and Choice Hotels Customer Service has led me to leaving this review to warn others to stay away! Before I get into the details I will summarize my issues. The deposit required was not as advertised, the rooms were on the low side of mediocre, and I had an unauthorized authorization on my cc. Let’s start with the unauthorized authorization on my cc since that was the worst for me. When I checked in I paid for the room in full and had a hold for my deposit. All of which is expected and the norm. When I went through my accounts that night all the authorizations from Econolodge were correct. On my dad’s cc there was a charge for the room and a hold for the deposit. On my cc there was a charge for the room and a hold for the deposit. As a family on a budget trying to have a successful vacation I accounted for every penny. When I went to sleep at around 10ish everything was correct. Sometime after I went to sleep the hotel put through another authorization for the 2nd of my stay. Why if I paid in full at check in would they put in authorization for the 2nd night on my cc? Just my cc and not my dads? Your guess is as good as mine. When I tried to inquire about this I was met with hostility and implausible excuses. The 1st time the front desk clerk said it was common practice to authorize the 2nd night even though I paid in full. Lie because the authorization for a 2nd night did not show up on my dad’s cc. Then they tried to state it was hotels.com fee. Again a lie as we al know. The final response I got was full of attitude that it’s not a “charge” and that it would clear my bank on 3-5 business days. Really?!? While this was not a charge and yes it would clear eventually it meant that I could not access my own money until my bank cleared the authorization. Not attempt to apologize or placate me just a horrible attitude that fed my discontent. Since I got no where with the location I called Choice Hotel customer service. Let me tell you what a joke that was. They are useless. The first reps just kept repeating uhuh the entire time I talked. Like he had better things to do then listen to me and my problems with the hotel. The 2nd rep was not any better. When I tried to speak with a supervisor I was told they were at lunch and I would need to call back. Me?!? I had to call back?!? When I finally spoke with a supervisor I was told there was nothing they could do since each hotel operates independently. She called the location and basically repeated the same crap and told me I have to wait. WAIT! I was then given some BS explanation that is was the bank who put in the authorization. Well let’s think this through logically. 1-If I went to sleep and everything was good why would my bank just randomly put in an authorization for the 2nd night and 2- how would they even know what the amount of the 2nd night was? I called my bank just to make sure and was told no they do not put on random authorizations on behalf of the hotel and they received the request for the authorization directly from the hotel late that 1st night. Instead of trying to placate me or try to make it right I was met with hostility and a “I don’t care” attitude by both the hotel and Choice Hotels. They kept saying it’s not a charge and I’ll get the money back in my account eventually but why should I be inconvenienced for days until I could access my money and not receive a heartfelt apology or an attempt to make it right and dismissing me like I don’t matter? Next was the fiasco with the deposit. When I booked 2 rooms in the past (which is everytime due to my family size) it has always counted as 1 reservation (I only get one confirm and have to use 1 cc to hold the hotel and pay). I also always check the small print on hotels.com and as I was anticipating there is a resort fee of 9.95 per accommodation per night and just a $50 deposit. Imagine my surprise when I get there and they want to hold $50 per room. When I questioned this I was told that is the way it is and if I didn’t like it I could take my business else where. Most families that visit this establishment are there on a budget so going to another hotel, especially since the 1st nights stay was already authorized from my card, made it impossible. In fact when I called to confirm my reservation days before my stay we spoke and confirmed the deposit for my reservation. It’s only when I got there they decided to say well you have 2 reservations. I disagreed since I only have 1 reservation number and no where does it say each room is a separate reservation. This change required me to split the cost on to 2 separate cc because I had budgeted based on what was advertised when I booked. It of course ruined some of our plans for the weekend but to them they could care less. But most of all it was the rudeness of the front desk staff shocked and upset me and I honestly considered moving to another hotel, which is a big deal for me. That is how bad the front desk staff attitude was. Now on to the quality of the rooms. The rooms they were less than mediocre. One of the reasons I chose this hotel was the location, which was good and that they didn’t have carpet. I hate carpets in hotels rooms and try to avoid them at all costs. The floor were dirty which was confirmed by how black our feet were after walking around and the bathroom with the standing shower was not as clean as I expected. You could see the mildew/mold stains in the grout. When we arrived at the room and went to take a shower we noticed that the light in 1 of the bathrooms was out. When I called the front desk about the light I was told to leave the switch on to see if it turned on. That instruction confused me until I went to turn on the light in the other bathroom. I noticed that it flickers for a bit until it turns on so I can only assume there are electrical issues. I guess the front desk was hoping the light would turn on eventually (which it never did) because their maintenance worker left at 4 (we got there around 5-5:30) and they had no one to change a bulb. They did fix the light sometime during the 2nd day though. Considering the room states 4 individuals can stay per room, there were only enough towels for 2 guest in one and 3 in the other. We ended up sharing towels that 1st night just so I wouldn’t have to deal with the rude staff again. When we returned on the 2nd day at around 5 we found our beds had been made and all the towels were gone but not replenished. When I called the front desk again I was met with rudeness about inquiring where the clean towels were and was told that they came around with clean towels later on after the rooms were cleaned. I was than asked, again rather rudely, if I wanted clean towels now? Really?!? Of course I wanted clean towels now, we wanted to shower after a day at the water park. After a 30-40 minute wait we finally got clean towels. Also on the 2nd night is when we noticed that one of the a/c units was leaking water into the room. We noticed it because it had soaked one of our luggage. Finally we woke up on the day of check out hot and realized that the a/c in the room had stopped working. So we had one leaking a/c and one that stopped working all together. And that’s it. The end of my tale from my worst experience with a hotel on a family trip. It just ruined the whole vibe of my family vacation and even now days later I am still upset and pissed.

The lodge has nicely sized rooms, with very comfortable beds, and in my case, also a sofa/bed. Good Wi-Fi, very quiet, good parking. They seem to be upgrading their breakfast room, and hopefully that will also let them expand their breakfast offerings to include eggs and more fruit. Staff is accommodating.

Best Deal and excellent accommodating staff that you will be on a first name Basis. Clean as a whistle rooms with fridge. Ask for Sherlly or Yesenia for anything to make your Family happy and all Attractions and Transportation. Walking distance to everything you can think of

your literly next to shopping stores and restaurants including fast foods and buffets. If you want to save up on gas and want to take the kids to Disney World or Sea World leave your car parked and jump in to one of the hotel's shuttles, eat their complementary breakfast , the rooms are clean, and the pool is big and clean. AND you can always find good deals on room pricing.

Booked two nights as we were travelling through florida to reach our final destination. The front desk, cannot remember her name was not very friendly. We were early so we could not check in right away. Asked where we could go to kill time other than shopping. She suggested Old Town 7 miles away. The continental breakfast such as it was had been out for awhile. There were not any cups available for coffee and if we wanted to stay and eat we would have had to stand as the only two tables available were occupied by a family of 12. The room was okay except the floor was filthy, both my husbands and my feet were black. We did not stay the two nights, we checked out and went to Quality Inn. I would not stay in another Econolodge for fear they would be the same and I will not recommend it either.
