Location is virtually unbeatable. Property is kept well and clean. Rooms are mostly well maintained (considering the sea air environment) and service was excellent. Pool is small and honestly needs to be expanded or another added to the second building - every day was a challenge to find room. Pool attendant is awesome and helped as much as he could (& always with a joke/smile). Warning: Cruise ships DO occassionally dock at the property pier and tower over patios/pool. Bar/food is fairly expensive but not necessarily for KW and the location. Would stay again but not sure its a must over other properties nearby.

Hotel's Favorite
There was not one thing I could find to complain about this hotel. We had the best food when dining at the hotel vs going out. Room was super clean, amenties were great, ideal location, every single staff member was so nice. If someone is complaining about the actual hotel, I can't see how. People who leave negative reviews because they didn't know that cruise ships park there or there was a security deposit placed on your credit card at check in, just haven't done their homework. Stop looking, this is the place for you to stay.

I love this resort and the best part about it is Alex, the manager who was on duty when I walked into the lobby. He took a very upsetting experience at a different hotel and made it into an amazing experience at Opal Key. I can only hope that upper management realizes what a jewel of a Manager they have in Alex. I am a businesswoman and I appreciate staff that represents the company in such a positive manner. Thank you Alex and thank you Opal Key for a lovely stay!

Summary: Be aware of somewhat deceptive booking practices at this hotel and staff who will do nothing about it. Read on for more detail. We booked one of Opal's "King Oceanfront" rooms for a visit to Key West in November 2023. The description on the Opal website reads: "If waking up and winding down on Key West's iconic oceanfront is your idea of paradise, consider staying in one of our King Oceanfront Rooms. In addition to magnificent views, you'll be pampered with a luxe king bed, a private balcony or patio, and modern furnishings." For an upcharge that added several hundred dollars to the total cost of our stay, we were expecting a good view of the Key West harbor and water. That's not really what we got. For the three full days of our stay, in fact there were large cruise ships parked in front of our room for the vast majority of the daylight hours (approximately 8AM to 5PM). During this period the water view from our room was blotted out by an iron ship hull and passenger decks (I've attached pictures taken from our room from day 2 and 3 of our stay for reference). This was disappointing and we wondered why were paying an upcharge for this room that really didn't deliver on what the booking description implied. OK, at hotels in this price range that hold themselves out to provide a "luxe" type of experience, there is generally a willingness by the staff at such establishments to make acceptable adjustments for the guests if there is dissatisfaction expressed. But not at Opal Key West. When we politely described our disappointment to the concierge it was returned with a blank stare followed by his statement that "it is well documented on internet sites that this is an active cruise ship port". So, somehow we were supposed to connect all the dots on our own and realize when we booked an extra-cost oceanfront room that there could be cruise ships obstructing the view all day? Hmmm. As we were disengaging from the conversation with the concierge, he offered a free breakfast.... a hollow offering given that the booking package we already paid for included breakfast. A while later we received a text from the Opal acknowledging we were dissatisfied with our stay and asking us to describe our concerns in more detail. We did so, but never heard any followup at all. When we checked out at departure, the front desk staff member asked how our stay was. My spouse explained our disappointment with the room versus our expectations. The front desk response was: "we are an active cruise ship port". It seemed as if the Opal staff have been trained to give this empty scripted response, which suggests we are not the only ones who have experienced this situation. No recompense was offered. In summary, this hotel charges high room rates but the amenities and care for guests do not match them based on past experiences we've had at similarly-priced hotels. Other comparable hotels we've stayed at work much harder to make things right for their guests- that's part of how they develop a reputation to support their pricing. And I wouldn't be writing this review if we hadn't paid extra for an upgraded room that really wasn't. The disinterested response by the Opal staff just made our perceptions worse- they had three different opportunities to address this, and they didn't. What allows them to get away with this is the location, which is outstanding in terms walking distance to the many wonderful activities in Key West. Another bright spot in our stay was Bistro 245, the hotel restaurant where the drinks and food were consistently excellent. We will not be staying again.

The Opal Key Resort is badly run down. Mildew smell everywhere, leaking ceilings spotted in multiple locations during a rain storm. Pool area is very small and in poor repair. The one bathroom in the pool area was filthy. Elevators out of order. The view could be beautiful, but there are giant cruise ships parked right outside the hotel every day, so you can’t see anything. There is a daily resort fee charged, but this is not a resort. Don’t know what that fee covers. I was here to attend a medical conference and there were no signs to direct attendees where to go. Inadequate restroom facilities for number of attendees. Most disappointing, however, was the terrible customer service. I had to change my reservation by shortening it by one night in order to attend a family funeral. I called one week before check to make this change, but apparently I called 8 minutes after the deadline to make changes (per my phone’s call log). To my surprise I was told that the entire amount for my 4 night stay had already been charged to my credit card and there was “nothing they could do” to refund my last night’s stay. I spoke with a manager on the phone, had email contact with another manager, and spoke with two managers in person during my stay. “Nothing I can do.” I had to re-explain my concern to each manager I spoke with because no one had made any notes in my reservation about my concern. Zero empathy, zero customer service. No recourse even in the way of a credit was offered. As a frequent traveler…I will surely never choose this or any other Opal property again after this incredibly poor service. There are so many other choices out there. Skip this property.

The spa at the opal Delray Beach is amazing! I came for 4 days of self care and spa treatments. My full body massage with Gio was by far the BEST full body treatment I have ever had! He is very professional and knowledgeable about trigger points and functionality. I felt like he assessed me as an individual and took time to make sure I was comfortable. It was therapeutic and relaxing at the same time. Thanks Gio!

We only stayed for one night, but were impressed with the service and amenities - the location was perfect for seeing all the Key West sites. I would say that it was a bit pricey because we wanted the ocean view, but it was a special occasion. We would definitely stay here again.

Check in was easy and fast, Very professional front office. We booked a 2 bedroom suite with Ocean View. The room configuration was perfect for what we were looking for. The room is amazingly quite, well appointed, spacious., the bathroom is very large, with great water pressure. Loved the shower. The View is amazing. The Location is in the heart of what is going on in Key West. Just a wonderful Home a way from Home retreat. I would stay here again.
