Opal Key Resort & Marina has garnered commendations for its immaculate cleanliness and well-kept grounds, with the inviting pool and complimentary beverages also earning positive mentions, though the pool size has been a point of contention for some. While lauded for its spacious and tastefully adorned ambiance, offering picturesque views and sunsets, the hotel's claim of "ocean front" has fallen short for at least one visitor. Despite its strategic positioning near Key West's famous attractions, many guests feel the costs outweigh the benefits, pointing to steep prices and additional charges. The comfortable and pristine rooms are a highlight, although a few have noted less-than-ideal views and dated designs. Service at Opal Key Resort & Marina is frequently described as warm and efficient, though renovation periods have seen a dip in satisfaction for some guests.

Stayed 4 nights over the busy New Year’s Eve holiday. We knew about the renovations ahead of time. The only inconvenience it caused was check in was in an alternate location and the daily breakfast was in an outdoor tent so it really wasn’t a big deal and hotels do need to get renovated so it’s understandable.
All of the workers we encountered during our stay were very friendly and helpful. We had room 308 which faced the Marina. It was great room for people watching and boat watching. We enjoyed seeing the different cruise ships and yachts go by from our balcony. We had the most perfect view for sunset one night. The location of this hotel is perfect being tucked away from the noise and crowds at Duval street while being within walking distance to all bars, restaurants and attractions. Our room was very clean and hotel staff always asked if we needed anything. We don’t need someone to clean our room daily so we had them do garbage and they gave me more towels and Nespresso coffee pods when needed. I like milk not artificial creamer in coffee so I bought that to keep in fridge from local cvs, no big deal. Hotel gives unlimited waters which my husband and I really appreciate while trying to stay hydrated in the heat. The pool area looked crowded so I didn’t use. Would like more pool options but it’s fine when in Key West and this might get better when they’re done renovating. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

For an upscale lodging experience we were in for a treat. I booked this place for our anniversary and we were well taken care of.
From the check in it was a breeze because since we drove from Miami it was going to be a late check in, so the clerk advised us not to worry and he would make sure we had a room on arrival. 4 hours later, when we arrived and walked in we were impressed on the impressive layout of the hotel. The front desk clerk was really upbeat and extremely helpful on getting us checked in and on the way. Our room was in the second floor overlooking the front courtyard. If you book a water view a word of caution, the following morning there was a cruise ship docked which ruined the view. The good thing about that is that they move a few hours later just in time for the famous sunset key west is known for.
Since we were hungry we asked about the house restaurant which does require reservations and we didn't have, but since there was a storm brewing some reservations were not filled and we got a break. The food was amazing and the service was ok.
I did get to enjoy a local hand rolled cigar I got while on Duval st and sat on our balcony to wrap up the evening.
The location is well worth the price since it is walking distance to all of what key west can offer, so no need to rent anything, just a good pair of walking shoes will get you there.
Breakfast is expensive there so just walk to Duval street to enjoy several Bakeries in the area and you should be fine.
The room was great, I just hate hotel pillows which are very uncomfortable and lumpy.
This place has a little for everyone, so get away to this place and show them some love.
Enjoy!

Dear 251jab, Thank you so much for choosing Opal Key Resort & Marina to celebrate your anniversary and for sharing your wonderful experience with us! I’m delighted to hear that our team was able to accommodate your late check-in and that you enjoyed the layout of our hotel. It’s great to know that the room met your expectations and that you had a chance to take in the famous Key West sunset after the cruise ship departed. I’m also pleased that you were able to dine at our restaurant despite the storm and that you enjoyed the food. It sounds like you made the most of your time here, from exploring Duval Street to relaxing on your balcony with a local cigar—what a perfect way to end the evening! I appreciate your feedback regarding the pillows and breakfast. Your insights help us improve, and I’ll be sure to pass along your comments to the relevant teams. We’re thrilled that you found our location convenient and that it contributed to a memorable anniversary getaway. We look forward to welcoming you back for another visit in the future. I'll first start off by saying that this hotel is in a great location. On the marina, a short walk to Duval and Green street activity. The room was very clean and the staff were truly fantastic - one of the best places I've ever stayed on a vacation service and cleanliness wise. That being said, a word of warning when booking a room. We booked a marina view room for 5 nights....and paid a premium for this (about $600 a night). We were surprised that on most of those days/nights, our view was almost completely blocked by a large yacht docked right outside of our balcony and the cruise ships that come in almost every morning by 8am and leave around sunset (see my photos). Consider saving money and booking in a less expensive room. The resort had a lot of construction going on - renovating part of the pool space, a complete reno of the on-site restaurant (dining was in a tent next to the marina until the restaurant is complete) and concrete work being done on the second to our last day there where a large cement truck arrived early morning. Comfortable beds, clean room, Nespresso coffee in your room and all day coffee and tea in the lobby in the adjacent building. A relatively quiet location. If you arrive early before check-in time, they will secure your bag so you can get out and explore. Not sure if this is a consistent issue, but two times our key card stopped working and I had to go to the other building to get assistance from the front desk. The first time, two other people had the same issue.

I am writing to express my disappointment regarding my recent stay at your resort in Key West, Florida. My experience was marred by several issues that significantly impacted what was meant to be a special trip in celebration of my wife and my 10-year anniversary.

Firstly, when booking our stay through Priceline.com, there was no indication that the resort would be undergoing renovations or maintenance during our visit. Unfortunately, I only became aware of this a few days before the trip when I received a separate communication from the resort itself. By then, it was too late for me to modify my travel plans or consider alternative accommodations. The maintenance work involved the setup of a temporary restaurant and an obstruction of the ocean view from the pool area, among other inconveniences. This lack of disclosure about the renovations ahead of time was a substantial oversight and affected the quality of our experience.

Additionally, I discovered that the room rate on the resort’s website had dropped significantly after my booking, with the same room available for approximately $600 less than I had paid. I attempted to resolve this price discrepancy with Priceline, but they directed me back to the hotel. When I reached out to the hotel, I was once again referred back to Priceline, leaving me in a frustrating cycle with no resolution or accountability. As a result, I paid a higher rate when a lower price was available for the identical room, which I believe is both unfair and unnecessary.

Finally, I encountered an issue with parking for a moped I rented from a local company. Upon returning to the resort, I was informed that the only place I could park was in the resort’s parking garage, which came with an additional $30 nightly charge. Despite the fact that I only parked the moped for a portion of each day and positioned it in a space-efficient manner, I was not granted any flexibility regarding this fee. I attempted to discuss the possibility of waiving or reducing this charge with the front desk staff, but my request was denied.

While I appreciate the convenience and appeal of your resort’s location, the ongoing renovations prevented us from fully enjoying the experience we had anticipated. Considering the issues mentioned above, I respectfully request a refund for the rate difference on our room and a reimbursement for the parking fees. Additionally, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity for a future complimentary stay to give us a chance to experience the resort as it is meant to be enjoyed, without the interruptions we faced this time.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing from you soon and hope to resolve these issues satisfactorily.

All aspects of our stay were fantastic beginning with a very friendly, quick and efficient check-in and then an exceptionally spacious room with many unanticipated luxury amenities. The staff, without exception, were helpful and a special shout-out to the housekeepers who did a great job. The location is perfect to be in the midst of Malloy Square, the entertainment along Duval Street and the various sightseeing venues and watering holes. Everything was an easy walk.

This is a lovely hotel in a fantastic location! We parked our car in the attached garage and did not move it until we checked out. The room was clean, well-kept, and lovely. The hotel is adjacent to Mallory Square, a block from Duval St, 3 blocks to Kermit's Key Lime and walkable to tourist attractions, with the furthest attractions (Southernmost Point and Butterfly Conservatory) being a mile (everything else is closer). The hotel is right on the water.
We ate in Bistro 245 and found portions to be large and very reasonably priced. We ate inside, however there is also outdoor seating overlooking the water.
The hotel provides free cold water and flavored sparkling water in the lobby, which was most appreciated in the heat.
We enjoyed watching the sunset from the sunset deck, and avoiding the many people on Mallory Square.
The staff were amazing! We found everyone to be friendly, kind, and helpful! The valet staff showed us where self-parking was and later gave walking directions. Special shout-out to Andre at the front desk who was AMAZING with my adult son, who has special needs, and who my son now thinks of as a friend!
Highly recommend staying here!

So happy that we found Opal. A classic hotel. Fantastic front desk staff. The hotel is spread over a few buildings. Staff tried their best to find us the best room that they had available..our room overlooked the sea and sea life centre, we were very satisfied with the room and its location. On our second day we observed that the more expensive rooms with unobstructed sea views woke up to a cruise ship outside their room..I would not have been happy..!
Parking is available but there is a charge..I still fail to understand why hotels insist on guests paying a fee to park. The location is superb, minutes away from the best bars, shops and restaurants.
The Opal is definitely the best value and has the best location for this part of Key West.
Thanks to all the staff who made us very welcome.

I have never written a review before but after spending so much money on a room and being so uncomfortable, unhappy and disappointed I wanted to make sure other guests would reconsider this hotel. We booked an “Ocean Front” room. There isn’t anywhere on the hotels website that states your view from the room will be totally blocked by an huge cruise ship docked out front every day of our 6 night stay arriving at 7:00 am some mornings and not departing until 5:00 pm with passengers sitting on their decks looking into our room. That is not what I have ever experienced when booking ocean front rooms! We felt very deceived and we booked our room so far in advance if we would have known differently we would have booked a different type of room.

There was not a comfortable spot in that hotel to relax and unwind. The beds and pillows were lumpy, the outside deck furniture was hard with huge holes in it. You could not sit in it for more than a couple of minutes! The pool lounge chairs were hard without any cushions available. The only place we found remotely comfortable were the sofas at the outside lobby area.

The room air conditioner was so loud and dirty and it was positioned directly across from our bed blowing cold dirty air in our face all night. The room temperature was hard to regulate and you either froze or were too warm.

The construction going on at the hotel directly below and next to our room only added salt into our bad experience.

We were there celebrating my husband’s 60th birthday for this visit. . I called ahead of time requesting chocolates and champagne to be in our room upon our arrival. There was no note of this request upon check in. I had to call 2 times to get this request followed through on only to return to our room with a bucket of water and a bottle of cheap wine and small wrapped chocolates that were there for turn down service.

When visiting Key West again we will certainly not return to this hotel.

This was our first stay at Opal Key and we enjoyed every minute of it. Throughout our 6 night stay every staff who we encountered was pleasant and helpful - front desk, concierge, bell staff, and restaurant. Our room was very clean and housekeeping staff were on point every day. We greatly appreciated the complimentary chilled bottled water daily. Yes there were renovations going on (we knew in advance from Opal Key’s website) but it did not negatively impact our stay. The complimentary breakfast was also appreciated. The proximity to Mallory Square, Duval Street and the seaport was excellent. We will definitely stay at Opal Key on our next trip to Key West.

My wife and I have been vacationing in Key West every winter for over 20 years. This year, there was a mixup with our reservation at the sister property of the Opal Key, and they were fully booked. Tanisha, the Front Desk Manager of the Opal, made arrangements for us to stay at her hotel for the same price.
I can’t say enough good things about her professionalism, customer service and what we perceived as a genuinely caring attitude. That approach was emulated by everyone we encountered in the hotel: pool staff, room service and wait staff were excellent to a person. They made us feel welcome and appreciated.
The accommodations themselves were first class. We enjoyed a beautiful view adjacent to Mallory Square, where the sunset is remarkable. The pool, the room itself and most of all, the location left us counting the days until we make a return visit. In comparison to other properties we have stayed at in the past, the Opal Key provided us with far and away our most enjoyable time in Key West.
