Due to uncertainty regarding Covid-19 testing and receiving results within the required 72-hours prior to departure to St. Maarten, we sadly had to postpone our visit there for the second time in 2020. I wanted to find a resort that had that Caribbean flare and vibe that we have grown accustomed-to during annual Caribbean vacations. I looked into various other resorts in the Florida Keys and they did not seem to have the same degree of exclusivity and high ratings that Sunset Key seemed to enjoy and so I booked a vacation for my wife, adult daughter and I during the week of 11/01. And, I am very glad that I did . The resort is beautiful. The beach is palm-tree studded and picturesque. The pool area was very well-maintained and enjoyable. Our accommodations (two-bedroom cottage) were terrific. The staff was very accommodating and would text daily to make certain that everything was meeting expectations. When passing any of the staff members, even groundskeepers, we were always greeted with a "hello" and a smile (albeit behind masks). Our cottage was sufficiently stocked with all necessities prior to our arrival and so I don't think we needed to interact with housekeeping staff during the entire visit. Each night a "picnic basket" of goodies would be left on our front porch. Each morning, a box of breakfast treats and fruits would be left on the front porch. I have read where some visitors were dissatisfied with the water shuttle/taxi into Key West. As for us, we had no problem aligning with the schedule (departures on the half hour from Sunset Key and departures back from Key West on the quarter hour). Unfortunately we only ate at the renowned onsite restaurant (Latitudes) one evening. The staff and service were outstanding. The atmosphere was perfect. Due to the wind and rain, we asked to move to dining indoors and the staff gladly accommodated us. Food quality was excellent. The only drawback for us, with more traditional food tastes, were that the various flavors did not necessarily strike us a complementary. But for those with more adventuresome palates Latitudes would be perfect. Had it not been for the restrictions imposed by Covid-19 we would likely not have considered Key West or Sunset Key. We consider this a fortuitous and unexpected find and expect to return. Our only future challenge will be scheduling return visits alongside Caribbean visits.…
After several years of not traveling to the Keys from Orlando due to the hurricane and Covid. our family decided to splurge and spend a week at Sunset Key. Best decision we ever made. Amazing location with 5 star accomodations and service. We found no reason to leave the Island but they do have a ferry leaving every 30 minutes to Key West. We have traveled around the world over the last 5 years and it is great to know that we have a world class private island resort so close to home
IF you are going to Key West, this is the best place to stay, its private yet close enough to everything. Awesome experience overall. WE rented a large house for 8 people. Service was exceptional. We are planning to return shortly.
Island vibes, nice mellow music, very friendly staff. We enjoyed every single minute in this peace of paradise. Our favorite part of the day was hanging out on the beach and chill with frozen drinks. Iva is a sweetheart. We will be back next year for sure!
There is mold in the upstairs bathroom and ants in the bathroom and kitchen in our cottage Windward 755. We have stayed at this resort several times, this will be our last time. Pool and pool staff were very good.
