Relax In Old Town Key West! The Eden House's first priority has been to maintain a clean inn, offer a comfortable bed, reasonable rates and have a staff that cares. Next comes the heated pool and Jacuzzi, hammocks, porch swings, waterfalls, sundeck, free off-street parking, café and lush gardens. We will have a cold drink for you at check-in and our daily complimentary 'happy hour' is poolside. Then at 10 PM we will dim the lights and let you get a good nights rest. Our night staff will not put a mint on your pillow but they will walk the grounds to insure that you won't be disturbed. I have owned and managed the Eden House for 27 years. I like to think that my staff and me do the 'little' things that will make your stay in Key West a memorable one. Key West is notorious for it's nightlife. Whether it is a sunset sail, a snorkel or kayak trip or deep water and flats fishing, the waters of the Florida Keys are like no other. Just let us know when you want to go.Grab a good book and a drink and I'll see you in the hammock area.

I love this place. It is not fancy. The rooms are not huge. They are tidy and have everything you could need. Many of the rooms are quiet and secluded. Some have porches with swings. The staff are extraordinarily helpful with recommendations for places to eat, drink, visit. When we asked to move from a room next to the pool (a little noise) we received an upgrade for the inconvenience - no charge/hassle. If u want huge, generic rooms and activities - wrong place. If you want a place with rooms with an “Old Key West” vibe, without a lot of noise, with staff that are friendly and chill - go here.

Hotel's Favorite
My fiance and I stayed at the Eden House for 2 nights in March. The location of the property is perfect while staying in Key West and not needing to drive. You can walk everywhere. The hotel is in a very safe area. We felt comfortable walking home at night. The grounds are amazing and tropical with a nice pool and hot tub and hammocks. Happy hour is complimentary at the bar each day at 4pm. The room we had and my parents' room were small, as advertised as a small deluxe room. Basic and ample accommodations in room. Would stay here again. Great customer service.

It’s time for the latest of several reviews of the Eden House I have posted over the years. This is our home-away-from-home in Key West. How many visits? I have lost track. Many. Obviously we like the place since we keep coming back. This is reportedly the oldest hotel in Key West, and it has all the interesting ambiance you would expect of such a historic venue. It’s not a glass and steel Marriott or Hilton, and owner Mike Eden doesn’t want it to be. We regulars don’t either. We like the informality and low key environment that prevails. The overarching principles at the Eden House are cleanliness and comfortable beds. I have used this description before, but have not found anything that describes the place better. Accommodations range from little more than closets with good beds to spacious apartments and lofts. We have standardized on the apartment units, but could happily live in a loft if necessary. All accommodations are well described on the Eden House web site, so be sure to read carefully before booking your lodging. The Eden House isn’t for everyone, and we like it that way! If you are one of “our people” who love the place I look forward to meeting you at the Eden House one of these days!

We stayed in one of the smaller rooms in the main building. Knowing we would not be in the room much. The room was very basic, and very small, but appropriate considering the age of the building. It was clean and provided everything we needed for our stay. Staff at the hotel was amazing and went above and beyond to provide a great experience. The grounds and pool are better than represented on web site. Very beautiful and surprisingly peaceful. Lots of little areas to find quiet time to read, meditate, or nap (lots of hammocks!) 4 star reason: Our mattress was in major need of replacement. Otherwise I would have given a 5 out of 5. Recommendation to those staying: if you have a car, park it at Eden House and walk to Duvall St. It is a walkable distance and we enjoyed the architecture of the neighborhoods. It is also a walkable distance to the harbor for the Yankee Freedom ferry.

Eden House was a good place for us to stay, for our two nights in Key West. It is a few blocks off the main tourist route on Duval St. and so the neighborhood is quiet except for the Key West "free range" roosters who start to crow at 3:30 in the morning outside our room, on the public sidewalk. A major advantage to staying at Eden House is that the free Duvall Street Loop bus stops on the corner. We stayed in room 421, which is the first of the "budget" rooms [Key West definition of "budget"], closest to the street. Our row of rooms were just off the lobby on the first floor, along a boardwalk, shaded, and cooled by a waterfall pool. There were two chairs and a small table right outside each of the rooms. The rooms are budget because, except for the full glass door (with blinds), there are no windows or maybe one in the rooms. Our room had a 4 shelf bookcase for storage, a closet with hangers, a queen bed, side tables, a camp-size refrigerator with freezer compartment, a small microwave, side chair, and an updated bathroom with large shower, modern sink and toilet. There was a ceiling fan in the room, a/c, and more lighting than NYC. Besides a tall bedside lamp, there were two very bright glass ceiling globes that looked like the bed must have been sited at one time in the other direction, 3 lights in the bathroom, a light in the closet ...but no charging outlets for our cell phones. We had to slightly move the bed to find a socket by the headboard, and plug in our phones...or use the shaving socket in the bathroom. We would have exchanged a light for sockets on each side of the bed! I had to go ask the desk clerk for a luggage rack, since there was none in the closet. My husband used it, and I used the chair for our luggage, during our stay. If we wanted to sit in a chair, we sat outside the room, at the numerous chairs and tables by the pool, or in the gazebo swing. The shower had a frosted glass window to the outside. Some of the budget rooms had a window, in addition to the glass door, but at the time of our arrival...all the others were taken. The room functioned well overall, but after a couple of nights, we were starting to feel claustrophobic. We could very slightly hear the TV in the lobby on the other side of our bathroom wall. The Eden House complex itself is something like going through the Swiss Family Robinson Tree House in Disney World. It is a carefully and compactly privacy-designed warren of boardwalk-connected buildings and rooms with combinations of porches, balconies, porch swings, gazebos, sundeck, pool, scattered fountains, a tropical bar, hammock "glades", 24 hr coffee bar, water cooler, 24 hr desk, and helpful staff-all surrounded by tropical plantings. There is an "unloading" parking space outside the front of Eden House. We were luckily able to park our car in the private parking area beside Eden House (between it and its restaurant; Azur)...but when it fills up, you are own your own. There is one "non-residential" space at the corner on the opposite side of the street from Eden House that we saw. There are others around. A few observations: the Key West chickens roam all over town, crowing, hunting and pecking, like "sacred cows". The attendant was spraying a large "pile" of chicken poop off the outside sidewalk as we went out for breakfast in the morning-the location of our 3:30 am and 6:30am "wake-up" calls. The refrigerator containing the milk and 1/2, 1/2 for the lobby coffee station is camouflaged in the lattice door beneath the coffee station. We used our dry travel creamer our first night, as we didn't see the door. I tried to sit on the rocking sling chairs on the front lobby porch, and found them to be terribly uncomfortable...a missed opportunity. We purchased take-out Cuban food from a place off Duval Loop, and fried fish from the fish market a few blocks away from Eden House, and ate them by the lighted pool at night. We were the only ones there. We came with our own liquor, but were given a choice of beer upon check-in. There are convenient trash disposal stations around the pool. From the sun deck and pool areas, one can watch flights taking off from Key West airport and flocks of buzzards pretty constantly circling in the skies above the keys. Because of street construction at this writing around the area of the principal Key West attractions , the Duval Loop bus driver will just say "out here" and you have to navigate to what were stops 3,4,5,6 on the route map, and then remember where the bus left you off so you can get back on again. We waited 1/2 hour at one stop before finding the driver had abandoned stopping there..but spotted the bus stopping down the next street. Still highly better than trying to drive your own car and find parking in downtown. In summary, if we again travel to Key West, we would definitely consider staying at Eden House.
