Let me just tell you, this house is AHHHHMAZING!!!! The decor, the vibe, the history, and the employees.... Seriously, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The Turret Room was insanely awesome. Taking a soak in the claw tub was a mark off the ol'bucket list, for myself! The breakfast in bed, was a delight. And, the upstairs balcony, was simply the icing on the cake! I absolutely loved sitting out there when the sun was setting. The historical aspect of this home is absolutely wonderful. Plus, the family story and Robert the Doll, make it extra interesting!! Put it this way....we loved it so much, we ended up coming back a few days after our original check out, to check back in! Enjoying a final hoorah, before heading home. It was totally worth it. Carlos and Jessica are awesome. Kind and hospitable, are putting it lightly. If you happen to stop by, tell them we said "hi"! We will definitely be back in the near future!!

Saranielson, Thank you for taking the time to post your “AHHHHMAZING” review of The Artist House. As you mention, you stayed in the Turret Room, which is two story room that has two beds and two full bathrooms. One of the bathrooms has a shower and the other has an original claw footed bathtub original to the house. It is usually the most popular room in the house for many reasons but it was also the room where Robert “the doll” supposedly moved from window to window (as per the school children watching below) as Eugene Otto painted. Boo! This room also has a door that opens up to the wonderful balcony overlooking Eaton Street, a great place to drink a glass of wine, a cup of coffee and just watch the parade of people walking down to Duval Street less than one block away. As for the historical aspect of the House, we just love to embrace this aspect of the home as it is very much part of a stay at The Artist House. There are many lodging options for tourists visiting our island paradise but few offer the authentic history that our house offers and one can feel that history the minute one opens that heavy wooden door built by ship carpenters way back in the day. It is hard to explain but upon walking through the house, one gets “a feel” for the important history and it is hard not to admire those who built and lived in the home long ago. It is a true privilege to be custodians of such a wonderful property and the love of the house, and our guests, should immediately be apparent to our guests. Our entire crew has a tremendous love for their jobs and a dedication to the old Otto House and our guests that is readily apparent. So, thank you again for your kind words and for choosing to stay with us, twice during the same trip, which is an amazing story for sure and such a great compliment. Please make sure you come back to see us soon! — Jason and Lori Barnett, Owners’ of The Artist House

My husband and I stayed at The Artist House, on a last-minute trip (our original plans were canceled due to COVID). I called and spoke to Jessica a week before our stay, and her infectious laughter set the tone for the trip! We were assigned the Parlor room which is located downstairs near the front door. The room is BEAUTIFUL! The bed was comfortable, there was a sitting area, a mini-fridge, Keurig, spacious bathroom, and wonderful little knick-knacks throughout the room. The location of The Artist House is just off Duvall Street. We were able to find on the street parking, and walked just about everywhere we wanted to go! Even with COVID restristcions, there was plenty to do, and everyone followed precautions as best as they could. Here at The Artist House, everyone wore masks in the common areas, and rooms were equipped with a UV air purifier, which was a nice touch. Breakfast is included with your stay, and it's wonderful (and delicious!). Upon checking in you receive a card with food selections for the duration of your stay, you make your selections and time preference, and they knock on your door the next morning with hot, delicious breakfast! Of course, mimosas and bloody mary beverages are an option for just $6 :-) There is a small pool in the back yard area, with plenty of garden seating if you are looking to enjoy your breakfast or a glass of wine outside instead. The decor is charming, and the pool is on the smaller side, but still enjoyable on a warm Key West day. Now, I save the best for last.... We thoroughly enjoyed our host, Carlos! He was warm and genuine, and we all became instant friends. Carlos was readily available with recommendations for everything (he's a Key West guru!) and even helped us out with last-minute dinner reservations. A wealth of knowledge, and an effervescent personality, he really made us feel at home. The personal touches throughout our stay were awesome. My husband said it best, they just do everything right!

Bacon Cheese, Yummmmmm. Thank you for taking the time to post your “they just do everything right” review of The Artist House. First off, when you say Jessica’s infection laughter “set the tone for the trip”, do you mean you ran into a pack of laughing hyenas at The Artist House? I mean, you have to admit that laugh will get everyone going, right? Anyway, on a more serious note, we really appreciate your mentioning our efforts to make the House safe during this Covid pandemic. I believe we were the last guesthouse on the island to re-open due to our concerns over the health and safety of our guests and staff. Prospective guests should know that we have implemented many reforms and guidelines, including an entirely new breakfast program. So far, so good. We obviously want our guests to feel safe and comfortable while on vacation and we are doing our very best in this regard. As for the “small pool”, it is actually an oversized jacuzzi that some call a splash pool. The great thing about that spa/dip pool is that it was once a cistern that captured rain water before the Biscayne Aquifer was tapped to bring fresh water down to Key West. I love pointing out such historic facts because this is one of many small details that makes staying with us at The Artist House such a unique historical experience. Did I mention that our kitchen was once a cook house? What about our outdoor laundry room being a barn that once kept a horse and later a Key Deer. Yes, it is true. We have pictures of a Key Deer in the house hanging out with the Otto Family who built and lived in the House for so many years. So we may not appeal to those wanting a modern resort style pool with towel service, etc., but I bet staying with us is a whole lot more interesting from a Key West historic perspective. The fact is that Key West has so many lodging options available for tourists. Just know that we do our very best to embrace our amazing history and authenticity. Moreover, as you found out, our staff at The Artist House is second to none. Carlos, Jessica, Shawn, Aksana and Marlene go above and beyond to make a stay at The Artist House part of an unforgettable vacation experience, not just a place to sleep and lay your head at the end of a long day. No, if there is anything that makes us stand out, it is that we truly strive to make staying at The Artist House a major part, if not the most memorable part, of the amazing Key West vacation experience. It is this reason why so many people choose to come back year after year, from all over the world, and plan their vacation stay around our availability as opposed to just going down the list of other places to stay. For this we are truly honored and are so very thankful to our guests. We call the experience The Art of Staying and call our returning guests The Artist House Family. So, thank you again for your kind words Bacon and Cheese... Mmmmmmmm good... and make sure you come back to see us soon. — Jason and Lori Barnett, Owners’ of The Artist House

The property is full of Key West charm. The garden and pool area offer a tranquil retreat to enjoy your morning coffee or a glass of wine in the afternoon. The rooms are generously sized, well appointed and colorfully decorated. Safety measures adopted to cope with present situation are in place throughout to insure your well being without being intrusive. Carlos and Staff strive to make your stay memorable from arrival to departure, pleasant and attentive. Breakfast is exquisitely prepared with an option to have it taken to your room. Highly recommended.

Noel, Thank you for taking the time to post your review of The Artist House. We really appreciate your kind words about our rooms, garden, pool, breakfast and Key West charm. As you know, we are a circa 1890 Queen Anne Victorian Mini-Mansion Conch House with an amazing history that just oozes charm. For those interested in authentic Key West history, we believe you will love staying with us at The Artist House. Prospective guests should know that each of our seven guest rooms has a unique configuration, size and decor, which makes a stay with us a bit unpredictable when compared to the larger hotel chain resorts in town. As such, we encourage our guests to call us directly so we can suggest the perfect room for your needs. As for “Carlos and staff”, just know that this is the best part of staying with us at The Artist House. I am sure you will not find a group of people anywhere that has a true love for their job, a greater interest in our guests and more knowledge of everyone and everything anyone would want to do in Key West. So, thank you again for your kind words and just know whenever you want to return to your “home away from home” we will be here waiting to greet you with big smiles and a welcome home mimosa. — Jason and Lori Barnett, Owners’ of The Artist House

Saw the reviews for this hotel and saw the comments about the staff. We stayed in the Parlor room for a week and found the reviews and comments were accurate. Carlos and Jessica were very friendly, accommodating, and welcoming hosts. This is the first bed & breakfast we have stayed in and it was an excellent experience as everyone on the staff were friendly. You will not find the breakfast offerings and personal touches anywhere else. The location could not have been better. It was a block and a half from Duval Street, but yet none of the noise from Duval Street. We parked the car for the duration and walked where ever we needed to go.

Mark O, Thank you for posting your “gem” of a review of The Artist House. We love to spoil our first time visitors as they rarely know what to expect. For those looking to stay in a predictable resort hotel with 24 hour concierge, a large pool, valet parking, 24 hour front desk workers with name tags, etc., we are probably not going to be your cup of tea. However, for those loving Key West and it’s unique history and vibe, you may just want to roll the dice and give us a try. Thank you also for mentioning Carlos and Jessica, the greatest managers on planet Earth (and probably beyond but I have never been to anywhere but planet Earth). They truly do love their jobs and bend over backward to make sure our guests are happy and get an extraordinary Key West vacation experience. So, thank you again for staying with us and for taking the time to post your review. We hope to see you back the next time you visit Key West. — Jason and Lori Barnett, Owners’ of The Artist House
