We visited with friends for a quick get away in April. We found the property conveniently located just 45 minutes from Miami. The facility is well appointed for relaxing vacation with friends, family or just a couples. The service experience is on point especially at Breakfast, Paul, Veronica, Jason and Eli makes morning experience memorable. The full service beach and pool is the perfect outdoor space compliment our day.
I have never written a review like this before. My heart is broken. What used to be a slightly over-priced (due its location and the fact it is a smaller boutique hotel) truly lovely resort hotel has lost its charm for me and my husband. I am a long time Marriott member and I will be contacting them as well to let them know how disappointed I am this trip, but I want the future travelers on here to be prepared for the issues they may run into that we did the very first night we checked in. We are staying here because even the other Marriott resort on the island is booked and we already have dives planned with a Key Largo dive company that to stay on one of the other islands would meaning driving too far too early in the morning to be feasible. Let me also mention that so far none of my complaints have to do with COVID restrictions that any decent hotel in the US has to follow. I do think though think, though, that a huge part of the problem is that they don’t seem to have much of the same staff that they had in 2020 and perhaps are understaffed due to COVID. If that is the problem, then Marriott should be cutting back on the rooms they are letting out at this property so that the customers who are here get the kind of special “one of a kind” special hotel that really makes a great vacation feeling that you should be getting from a boutique property (and which we definitely had here in January 2020) and which you are most definitely paying for. When we checked in we went down to our room expecting it to be the same kind of room we had in January 2020. It was not. Part of this was due to an upgrade we were given it seems on the last trip, but that was not the real issue. The real issue to me is that we are now stuck with an ADA compliant room that has a bathroom that is so different then any boutique or luxury hotel room’s bathroom that is also a suite that it changes the whole dynamic of the room because of the way it is set up. We now have a room with a nice view, but no dual sinks, or shower or bathtub that is very comfortable to be used by people who do not need an ADA set up. Also, our room in 2020 had a toilet in a separate space from the shower, bath and sink, which is something we are accustomed to when booking at an upscale room. Frankly, it has taken all the beachy, romantic, feel of what was a great room on our last trip, and made it completely utilitarian and nothing I would have booked when I made these plans because it is certainly not what we booked. I had no idea they would switch me to an ADA compliant room, no one told us ahead of time and I booked a couple months in advance. There were completely different ADA compliant room listings for the same type of room on the Marriott Bonvoy website and I made sure not to book one, but it seems they decided to book to almost 100% this week and give my non-ADA compliant room to someone else. I feel like I’ve been bait and switched in the worst way and my birthday vacation and the first vacation we’ve had since the last time I was here in Jan. 2020 has been ruined. My husband especially needed this and he feels seriously let down too, but I’m the Bonvoy member and booked the trip, so I’m the one writing the review. I will say that I never got to talk to the room manager here,he was talking to some other customer outside and I had to keep calling the front desk (thank you Valentine for trying to get the message through) and eventually I was handed over to another manager (not the room manager)who basically said that they have a higher percentage of ADA rooms then required and that since they were so booked they could not give me the same type of room or better as they only had this type of room available as ADA. I’m (not) sorry, but as a customer who booked a non-ADA room and was not told (even at the front desk when I was checking in) I might get one, due to the fact you overbooked the rooms you had should not be my problem. They said if someone cancelled they would get us a non-ADA room, but that it would be very unlikely due to them being booked to almost 100%. Nothing specific was offered to me in recompense, just a what else can I offer you to make your stay better, instead of them offering me specific things as if I were an actual valued customer to them. But the one thing I wanted, which I had reserved months in advance directly through Marriott’s own site and which I was prepared to pay for, was not available to me. It was and is their job to offer the customer something specific, perhaps even a discount on the room since we have to suffer an ADA bathroom (which is great if you or your spouse needs it, but which is completely awkward and unromantic if you don’t). The head manager (or room manager) did not even try to contact me after I spoke to the other manager our first evening, which, as a person that worked in customer service management as I myself did for many years, I find myself disappointed in as well. I still intend to enjoy every other aspect of this vacation on Key Largo, but my stay at this resort, which I had hoped would feel like a home away from home as it did for both me and my husband in Jan. 2020 (and full of the nicest staff I had ever known in all my travels) will just be a very expensive for us to sleep in. If anything changes while I am here, I will edit this review or post a new one as an update, but from what I’m seeing on a lot of the more recent reviews here of this location, I do not think anything will change. Oh, the bellman who may also be the valet was very kind to us as well. Not his fault what happened.…
First off, the pictures don't do this place justice. The overwhelming sense of tropical oasis cannot be described. This is by far the MOST exquisite resort in all of the Florida Keys. There is nothing else like it anywhere. What makes it so incredible is the staff. From the moment you pull up, the Valet greets you with a smile. A warm welcome awaits you at the front desk. As you walk the property, all staff members are excited to welcome and assist you in anyway. A special shout out to the staff working breakfast. What better way to start your day than enjoying a gourmet breakfast at a wonderful restaurant with amazing staff members. Kerry Ann is beyond incredible and has become like family over the years. Judith makes us feel like we're at home. Eli is passionate about ensuring we are completely satisfied and happy. They honestly and truly care about you as a person, not just another customer. We don't experience this level of service anywhere else. If you're considering staying here, just go ahead and book now. You will be blown away.…
My wife and I have stayed at this beautiful resort at least once a year since they opened. As Lifetime Titanium Elite members, we have stayed at Marriotts all over the U.S. and Canada, and Playa Largo is by far the best. No comparison. What draws us to this place every year is the people. So warm and welcoming. Every morning at breakfast, we are welcomed by Eli (manager) who goes above and beyond each and everytime to make us feel like VIPs. We are then greeted by the most beautiful soul, Kerry Ann, who has become like family over the years. She is truly amazing. Judith is a part of our family as well at this point. Everyone is amazing and very helpful. There is no better way to start your day at this incredible resort. We highly recommend!
The resort environment and architecture combined with the pools and the calm waters from Key Largo are an invitation for relaxing moments. A special mention to the restaurant staff must be placed. Eli Bermudez, Briana, and Carla were incredible, my son who loves jam was literally spoiled with so many cordialities from this team, as well as my wife who loves cappuccino with cinnamon. Carla also brought our breakfast experience to another level with a huge variety of fruits and deli options. For sure I recommend the restaurant service and we can't wait to go back.
