This is a very large hotel, with a grand lobby and huge breakfast area. The front desk staff were super friendly. We had 2 small dogs and this hotel charged a very reasonable $20 fee for the night (not per pet.) Our room was large with a separate seating area. We loved having the attached restaurant so that we didn't have to go out for dinner after a long day's drive. The breakfast was decent, with an omelette station. However, we didn't see any fruit and the yogurt machine wasn't working.
Some cons (for which I didn't deduct any stars because the price on this hotel was outstanding): the sink area has very little space for storing toiletry bags, the fan in the shower area is super noisy, and we had trouble getting the water really hot.
Funny story, there is a machine on the wall in the sitting area. I assumed it was a vacuum steam cleaner in case your pet made a mess. So I thought I would use it to tidy up after my dogs ate their dinner. Pulled it off the wall and started to read the instructions when I realized it was a clothes steamer!! In the meantime I accidentally spilled most of the water out of the machine and had to sop it up with a bath towel. I'll post a picture so you'll know it's a clothes steamer!!

The Best Western Gateway Grand in Gainesville, Florida, is the most popular gathering place for Gator fans on football weekends at the University of Florida. As my wife and I have discovered in recent years, it also is a convenient overnight accommodation for Chicagoans on their way to Sarasota and destinations beyond in the Sunshine State. Located at 4200 Northwest 97th Boulevard, off I-75 at the Northwest 39th Avenue exit, it is a huge facility that offers a swimming pool, restaurant, fitness center, business center, massage studio, a large parking area and laundry. A free, hot breakfast is available for guests beginning at 6 a.m. daily. We reserved a lower level suite with King-sized bed, 42-inch flat screen TV, sitting room, microwave, mini-refrigerator, coffee and tea maker, chest of drawers, desk and chair, armchair and shower/tub combination with separate vanity. For travelers with lots of luggage, like us, there are several dollies available to transport your belongings to and from your car at the entryway to and from your room, a convenience that becomes more important with each passing year.

We always like to eat and have adult beverages at the onsite sports bar/restaurant. The food and drinks are tasty and made more affordable if we happen to be there during Happy Hour, and since we are big sports fans, we can watch the seasonal sports being played while we eat and drink. Also, the hotel is centrally located to some restaurants that are with in walking distance, local colleges, drug stores, groceries, and sanctuaries and gardens.

Our family will never stay at a Best Western hotel again or recommend the brand to anyone after the experience at this location. We reserved the room one month in advance, only to arrive at 3pm and be told that during NCAA home football games you cannot check-in until after the game starts. Well, the game did not start until 8pm. The reason for our trip was the game, which meant we would not have the luxury of waiting until after the game started to check-in. The front desk was rude and showed ZERO empathy for our concerns. They straight up did not care that we were paying for a service we were not getting. Once we checked in at MIDNIGHT, after the game, the room was disgusting! Easily a dozen plus random hairs in the sheets, a baby bottle sticking out from under the bed, dirt, crumbs, and other signs the carpets were obviously not vacuumed, hairs throughout the bathroom, no hot water, and once again, the front desk did not care when we called to tell them the disgusting disarray of the room. Best Western lost a customer and should be concerned they allow management at this location drag their reputation through the mud.

Dear ryanjV2483SW, Thank you for sharing your feedback. I want to sincerely apologize for the frustrating experience you had during your stay with us. It’s clear that we did not meet your expectations, and I regret that the issues you encountered impacted your visit so significantly. I completely understand your frustration with the delayed check-in policy during home football games. This is an unusual circumstance specific to certain event dates, but it is no excuse for the lack of clarity and communication you received about the policy. Our goal is always to be transparent with our guests, and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this caused, especially given the timing of your arrival. I will work with our team to ensure that this information is better communicated at the time of booking, so future guests are fully aware. I’m also deeply concerned by the state of the room you encountered upon check-in. A clean and comfortable room is fundamental to our guests’ satisfaction, and what you’ve described is completely unacceptable. I can assure you this is not the standard we uphold, and I will be addressing this directly with our housekeeping team to ensure that we maintain the highest level of cleanliness. The fact that the front desk did not respond appropriately to your concerns is equally troubling, and I will be addressing this with our staff to ensure a more empathetic and proactive response in the future. Please know that I take your feedback very seriously, and I am personally committed to addressing the issues you’ve raised to improve our operations. I understand that we have lost your trust, but I would welcome the opportunity to make it right if you are willing to give us another chance. If you are willing to give us another opportunity please feel free to contact the hotel directly at (352) 331-3336 and ask for Josh. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts, and I genuinely hope we can regain your confidence in the future. Sincerely, Josh Wessels General Manager Best Western Gateway Grand

My trip started off with a greeting from Hailey, I called to see if early check in was an option. She was very nice, she checked to see if the room type was available ( I arrived at 245pm), upon her return she told me, sure they do have rooms available. The check in process was a smooth process. The hotel was clean, the restaurant had great food and drinks, and the breakfast was outstanding. I was heading out early, but realized that the breakfast starts at 6am, Jose makes the best omelettes and it would be a waste of money to eat elsewhere. Last, I was customer of the day! When I arrived my name was printed electronically and placed in a highlight area for others to see. It was great to be acknowledged and to have my points pay for most of my stay.

We were at the hotel for an onsite event taking place over 4 days. From the moment we checked in, the staff was amazing. They made sure we had everything we needed and addressed the minor lighting issue immediately. Toccara made sure our room was clean and stocked with all the towels we could possible need. The onsite restaurant and included breakfast was great! This is an annual event and I hope it's hosted at this location again next year!!

WE Stayed Sept 14-16 while husband was getting minor surgery. We have stayed at this Best Western several times.
The hotel is just off the freeway tucked away across from Harley Davison store… You turn right at the Dairy Queen The hotel is a 3 story building with a significant added area around it with conference rooms and a resturant “The Gators Den Sports Grill”. they have great cookies avaliable on check in…yumm.
We stayed in a King suite which has an extra room with couch and desk. The air conditioning unit under the window works well. The room has plugs and USB connections on desk and on one side of the bed. There are plenty of towels although they are a little thin from wear. Furniture a bit worn and curtains should probably be replaced. The room had a good refridgerator with microwave and coffee maker. Fresh coffee is ready by 5:00am downstairs.
Overall there were great staff at front desk. The property seems kept up and clean on outside. The hotel is older everything is pretty clean,,,breakfast great. You can get a breakfast bag if you leave early. The second morning there we returned around 10:00 after my husbands surgery and staff member Karen rushed around to get him a breakfast sandwich and Orange juice even though breakfast was over. Thank you Karen..
Good resturant on site(The Gator’s Den Sports Grill). I had a great chicken quesadilla with Cesar salad take out.
We didnt use fitness center but know its been remodeled in past few years I am a swimmer and I love the pool here. It’s just long enough to swim in and has a deep end so one can tread water and get some exercise. The deck area is big with plenty of lounge chairs chairs around and pool towels are avaliable by the pool. There is hot tub also. Ice machine works great. The card reader on our door took several tries to get it to open and we had keys reprogrammed once… This Best Western Hotel really meets our needs for short stays for medical appointments. We will continue to stay here when we are in Gainesville. LSJ6

We experienced multiple quality control issues at BW Gateway Grand in Gainsville, Florida. This hotel was recommended by the lung transplant team at UF Health. We booked a 7 day stay and chose to stay out of the busy area of town because my elderly father is being evaluated for lung transplant and we wnated a quiet, peaceful, restful experience during the busy week of tests and procedures. We were there for 5 nights and despite multiple requests our room had not been cleaned. There were piles of damp towels and food trash in the room. We often aid meals in the room after a long day at the hospital and the smell was unacceptable after 5 days. I requested cleaning after day 1, spoke with a representative(Ebony, who was extremely professional and voiced understanding) on 2 different days at the desk and then spoke with the manager. When we arrived at the hotel on day 5 after my father had a medical procedure we found that the room was not cleaned. I spoke with the manager to inform him that the room had, again not been serviced. I told him that my father was resting and that we would be going back to the hospital at 4:30pm, and requested he please have the room cleaned or at least remove the overflowing trash bins. 45 minutes later, housekeeping knocked on the door, disturbing my Dad asking to clean the room. I declined. The same house keeper called the room 10 minutes later - again waking my recovering father - to ask if she could come clean the room immediately because "housekeeping would be leaving for the day soon." In addition, the light in the bathroom flickered because it was going out and the tub didn't drain. I found the staff to be friendly but the follow through on service to be abysmal. This is unacceptable. This hotel stay should have been quiet and relaxing and clean. It was the opposite of all of this. The manager gave us small discount that I feel paled in comparison to the service and stay that we received. The images on your website portray this as one of the nicer hotels in Gainsville, but it was the poorest experience with hotel travel that I have ever had.

We apologize about the service requests you dealt with while at our hotel. Since 2020 it has been made a standard to not clean the room while the guest is there, to minimize interactions. We want to help keep our guests safe and healthy, which is why we always try to service rooms when the guests are not there, and only at the request of the guest. We do apologize that this was not able to happen, and hope that you will give us another chance in the future to provide you with the great customer service that we are known for.

I found out that if you don't ask for housekeeping, you won't get fresh towels or housekeeping. We keep our towels hanging, but needed some fresh ones.
The toilet should have been cleaned better and do take a fan with you for the bedside table, as the AC units couldn't keep up. The thermostat had buttons that couldn't be used either.

Not Good. The hotel looks fantastic from the outside. The reception area is nice. The pool looked lovely. The bedroom was not. It is very dated and old. The heater in our room kept turning itself on and off all night - each time it came on the noise woke us both up. When daylight came, the heater blew the curtains so they billowed and let all the light in. Bed was hard. We hardly slept. Staff were very nice, they said they would look into the heater problem but said all the rooms have the same so I’d be very surprised if we’re the first to mention it. Breakfast was ok. The fresh omelette station had packed up before we got there though. We would not stay here again.

While we're glad to hear that our common areas were pleasant, we're very sorry that the heating unit in your room contributed to a lack of sleep. Please know we are working very hard to make changes to our guest rooms to ensure comfortable stays are had by all. Your feedback will certainly help us improve. We hope that if you do give us a chance in the future, you'll see great strides in the experience we offer.
