I have mixed feelings about Lago Mar. The service was very good (one minor exception …hardly worth mentioning). Employees seem to enjoy working there and that makes interactions pleasant. The location is great and our stay was an okay value. The facility itself has seen better days, but it was clean and in good repair….just dated. The main issue I had was the quality of the food. It was expensive but the cost was on par with a resort. The quality was very much below par. To be fair, we only ate breakfast there ($17 for the buffet). Maybe the other meals would have been better but it wasn’t worth the gamble for us.

Unfortunately, we were unable to visit this resort. The reason being is 2 members of my party felt ill and tested positive (home test) the morning of our departure from New York. Due to this, we had to cancel our trip. I contacted the hotel and explained our situation. The person with whom I spoke with stated that I would be charged a one night penalty. I asked if a credit would be an option and he made it clear that this is not part of the cancellation policy. I expected hotel credit and would of been pleased. Instead, I am disappointed. He did state, I would be able to submit a medical test, such as a PCR test to be reviewed. It was difficult to locate a place that administered a PCR test, being so many were being tested during this time. As I am one to understand and respect policy, I do believe, due to unpredictable times in a pandemic, and with the safety of all in mind, there needs to be flexibility and exceptions made to policies.

We have been coming here for twenty odd years and always loved our stays. This is the first time that I felt the service was not up to the standards of previous stays. For whatever reason all of the old Bell staff were gone to be replaced by a much younger inexperienced group. In the past when you pulled up the Bell staff unloaded the car and brought luggage into the front desk. This year the Bell guys watched me unload luggage for two parties and wheel into the front desk. After getting our room assignment they just watched until I asked for assistance. In the past they bell buys would bring up the luggage with a bag of ice to start you off. Now I had to call down and ask for some ice to be brought up. As far as the room they still have the Tommy Bahama feel to them but it is definitely time to replace some items that see heavy use like the nightstands and couches. Over-all we still love Lago Mar and will return in the future but hope the bell staff comes up to speed.

This was our post Christmas holiday romantic getaway as a married couple and our second recent trip to this resort since November 2021. I was disappointed in our visit in December as we paid $600 a night for a suite but had only a view of the outside smoke break area for the employees at the resort restaurant a floor below. When I requested to relocate to another room or suite for the last two nights of our stay the front desk person would not allow it. I later was in the lobby and a male guest requested to move his family to another suite and they graciously accommodated his request immediately. As an executive level woman with a law degree I was personally offended by how my request was flat out denied and this gentleman’s request was graciously honored without hesitation. I now have mixed feelings about this resort as the front desk personnel have been rather dismissive and not accommodating on both of our recent stays. The resort service in general was very lacking with the exception of the helpful Concierge, Ray who helped us book a boat trip and the young lady from Baltimore who was so nice to us consistently at the resort restaurant.

Absolutely no complaints about this wonderful property right on the beach. There are 2 beautiful pools (1 is adult only), outside eating venues, and large comfortable rooms with a great balcony. We arrived late morning and even though our room wasn't ready--they encouraged us to use the pool and to have lunch. Our room did become ready about 2 hours before normal check in time. Lots of large geckos on the property--and I found out they are good swimmers when one jumped in and crossed the pool swimming. The property is about 5 minutes from the cruiseport and economical transportation was arranged by the hotel concierge. All Covid precautions were being followed. Because I had recently injured my leg and was still on crutches--we asked for a handicapped accessible room and found that our room was huge--with a very large roll in shower and bars in the toilet area which was very helpful.
