We enjoyed staying in this clean and affordable accommodation. It was a fully furnished apartment with kitchen. There was free parking nearby. There is a beach about 200 metres away, but it's about 700 metres from the centre of the FTL beach activity. Bonnet House and Gardens is just around the corner. Not many amenities in the immediate area around the hotel. You should consider having a car if you come here, although I suppose you can get by without it. If you have a car, the Galleria and everything else you would need are close by. The pool was heated to about 22 degrees and much appreciated. The staff are awesome. Thank you! No downsides. Would stay here again. Recommended. This is an older smaller motel-style place of the kind you see everywhere in Florida. Tranquilo is part of the cluster of hotels that are owned by "North Beach Village Properties". I really like what they are doing here. It's still about 2 star or 3 star in quality, but I'm giving them four out of five to reflect our satisfaction. (If I was rating this on AirBNB, I'd give it 5/5.) If I could make a suggstion to NBVP, it would be to create a proper gym for the use of all their guests. The one they have now is not really suitable. If this is going to be the next South Beach, you'll need an excellent gym!

We stayed pre and post cruise; five nights before and 3 nights after. As always the staff was wonderful and responsive to our questions and our needs. The rooms we had were in good shape, the beds comfortable, the lighting good. It was so good to have the stove top, the microwave and the refrigerator in the room. The pools are not big, but certainly are useable and refreshing. In our case, the pool was right outside our room. We loved having a coin operated laundry room on site. The first week was quiet at the hotel. The second week, after the cruise, put us right in the middle of Spring break. uh oh -- we brought the average age up! The kids, though plentiful and partyful, were respectful. Ther was loudness in the day, with some breaks of noise at night. The staff always reminded us that we could report if we were unhappy. The location of the hotel is great - 2 blocks from the beach and within walking distance of restaurants and shops. This is our fourth winter stay at the Tranquilo and we are already looking forward to our stay next year - although we will not book in March! The staff, as I said, was wonderful - special mention goes to the following people: Marcia, Davis, Monica, Ivis, Karlo, Camila and Amanda. There are others too, but I failed to get their names. Kudos to them and to the hotel itself. There is one drawback for us oldsters: The TVs have all changed to Roku. There is no option for live TV. But we give 5 stars anyway!

I don’t like to write bad reviews, but when they’re warranted I feel I should do so to alert fellow travellers - so here goes... We arrived to check in at Tranquilo last evening around 8 pm - it was dark and raining, and the main office wasn’t easy to locate - it was then we noticed that the entire building was in the dark. I called the property management, who informed me the power had been off all afternoon - and that they would happily cancel our reservation without penalty. Not a great option as it was late, we were tired after a long drive, and the prospect of finding a new hotel on short notice on a Saturday night of a long weekend wasn’t that appealing in the moment. Thankfully within about 15 minutes of our arrival, the power returned - and to the front desk staff’s credit, they handled the situation well and with patience, given that they likely had had a stressful day dealing with unhappy guests. We were issued a room key in one of their buildings down the street from the main office (the Tranquilo is actually a series of several separate two story buildings) - and the key didn’t work (due to the aforementioned power outage). We trudged back through the rain to get it reactivated, and then back to the room - located in the back corner on the first floor (ie little to no natural light sources - Room 5106 to be exact). Upon entering, we were met with an overwhelming dank and musty stench which permeated everything in the room. Upon further inspection, the bathroom vents were filthy and black with dust and dirt, there was mold around the top of the sink, and stray hairs were everywhere. No thank you. Back to the front desk we went through the rain to explain our displeasure - again staff were patient, courteous and understanding, and gave us an upgrade to a full size suite complete with kitchen and separate bedroom. The upgraded room was immediately adjacent to the old one, and unfortunately, other than being larger, had much the same problems as the old one - dank, damp and musty stench, mold in the bathroom, and in this case the kitchen faucet was barely attached to the counter. Yuck. By this time it had been more than an hour since our arrival, and we were tired and frustrated, so opted to bite the bullet and just stay put. It was not a pleasant way to spend our last evening in Florida - and when the time came for bed, the mattress and sheets were so cool and damp we had to sleep (not well) in several layers of clothes to avoid the dampness. I’m familiar with the fact that the ocean climate in this part of the world can create these types of conditions - but for a hotel catering to guests paying over $200/night CDN these conditions are simply unacceptable. As I note there are several favourable reviews for the Tranquilo on this site, I would have to assume they do have rooms available that don’t have the problems we encountered. At first glance (and in photos) the rooms absolutely appear to be attractively appointed - but look a little closer and there’s not enough white paint or minimalist/modern (perhaps a bit too minimalist - some plants and a throw rug would go a long way) design to distract from the fact that these older buildings have been hastily and shoddily renovated and problems like mold/mildew were ignored - i.e., a pig with lipstick. Too bad, because the location is great, and there is great potential for this place to be a first class boutique hotel - but we won’t bother waiting for that to happen. Very disappointing experience overall.

The WONDERFUL staff is the only reason this place gets more than one star. They really were fantastic, friendly, helpful... The place could be a little hidden gem and instead is a run-down terd. The pools have big chunks missing. The rooms are Tiny. Bathrooms need remodeling, and vent fans. Even the cheap cardboard disguised as toilet paper could easily be replaced. Ownership is killing this place and deserve to suffer for it. Spend a dollar on some paint, decor, chairs, Everything is ratty. They didn't even put fresh shampoo and tissues in the room. What it could be is just sad. This is coming from someone who grew up in the area through the 80's and 90's. Sad to see wasted potential.
