The "newly renovated" south tower really misses the the mark when it comes to the gold standard of the Ritz-Carlton brand. We stayed in the fire pit suite and the decor was bland, confusing and felt cheap. Lamps everywhere and a mix of uncomfortable furniture. The patio area had a bistro table and two small chairs, even though there is room enough for a couple of chaises so that you can really put your feet up and relax. The bar/lobby area furniture is dull gray and dark, and lends to an echo effect that makes it hard to have a conversation due to the noise level. I gave it 3 stars because the staff was great, otherwise it wasn't anything special.

We just visited the hotel with friends for a quick getaway. Played some golf. Enjoyed the spa. It was fine, but all in all, we did not feel like it was a good value. Covid practices were pretty good. This is our first outing since the pandemic and I felt like they did a good job with this. The hotel room was not clean upon our arrival. It was made up, but someone had clearly used the bathroom(and not flushed completely!). Mildly disturbing. The food was average at best. We ate at Coast, Coquina and Salt. Salt was good. Our server, Matt, was excellent! The food at Coast and Coquina was limited and disappointing. Just not good. Wine list at both Coast and Coquina was limited and disappointing, as well. The spa was huge and nice. My massage therapist, Teresa, was excellent. Golf at Amelia Island Golf Club was extremely expensive for the quality course. The greens were in great shape, but that was about the extent of it. All in all, it was a very expensive few days with disappointing-to-average food, wine, etc. The property is an old one. . . It’s been redone and the decor is lovely, but look closely and it’s showing its age. I’m sad to say we won’t be back. Not a good value. The Ritz’s at Reynolds Plantation, Kapalua Maui, Dove Mountain have my vote over this one any day.

After reading some of these other reviews, I’m happy to report that to this non-jaded traveler (Titanium), the five nights we spent at this Ritz were outstanding. Knowing that things would be different in this Covid-impacted timeframe, we were pleased with the service and warmth that were conveyed by the staff, even though we realized that the pandemic was responsible for some shortages. Room was clean, comfortable and quiet - we didn’t miss the “robe and slippers.” Beach was beautiful and easily accessed - the beach and pool attendants were very attentive and helpful. Restaurants provided many choices, though I would have expected a morning coffee service for guests. We left with a firm expectation of a return visit.

Meet people where they are, as all eyes are subjective. I’m a Lifetime Titanium Marriott member, having stayed at some of the most luxurious properties in the world; St. Regis Bora Bora, JW Dubai, St. Regis Kuala Lumpur, Ritz Carlton- Maui, etc. I feel safe to consider myself as having a fair understanding of what “luxury properties” truly reflect. Please consider my analysis thorough my lens of luxury. Overall, this property is pretty standard for any 4 star property, and could easily be a high end Sheraton, Hyatt, or JW. Having going through a recent renovation, that’s still underway, theres good, and bad, that still exist with this property. My ratings are below for those that want the quick hitters, with 5 being excellent, and 1 being absolutely terrible. I’ll get into more detail below. Covid: 2.5 > loose mask controls, sanitize stations throughout property but many empty/not working Property Grounds: 4> clean, manicured landscaping, colorful flowers, etc. Hotel Service/Staff: 4 > very nice, over accommodating, very polite, reasonable speed. Food: 4 > food choices were good, sushi was excellent! Some of the best I’ve ever had. Rooms: 3.5 > room pretty standard, newly renovated, but missing basic amenities- detail below Pool: 2 > more detail below Beach: 3 > more detail below Other On Property Amenities: 3.5 > on site spa, shops, lounges, s’mores station, etc. Property Extras: 5 > more detail below. I’m not going to go into great deal about basic things like coffee, towels, etc. It’s a Ritz, there are some things that should be a standard for ones expectation, especially with regular nightly rates exceeding $1000+. A few room issues that I had during my stay were as follows; only one bathrobe provided in room, no bath slippers available, no umbrella in room, retractable cord feature on iron broken, lamp over table has electrical short on knob, housekeeping forgot to service room one day, no turn down service during stay, etc. These are very specific issues to my room, as I’m sure this is not a global experience property wide. However, this is a Ritz Carlton property, therefore the expectation for a certain level of attention to detail is expected, especially with the nightly rate. The most underwhelming part of the property itself is the outside pool area (there is a inside pool). Overall, I would give the pool design and layout a 2 out of 5. Not only is is relatively small in comparison to other luxury brands, it’s very compacted and crowded. In addition, there are lounge chairs spread out all around the exterior grounds, at times 5/6 rows deep. Many of the lounge chairs look out of place, as if they are just sitting in any open area of grass- visualize putting lawn chairs in your front yard. Though I’m sure it’s a very expensive task, a complete redesign of the outside pool area needs to be done. I’ve seen better pool layouts at Holiday Inn Resorts. If you want to be by the pool, get up early to you’re your spot. Definitely not a high end experience. Outside of the disappointment in the pool area, the pool “cabanas” are laughable. These cabanas are similar of the gazebos you would purchase from the Home Depot for your backyard oasis; an over sized pop up tent. Again, cabanas experienced at other high end properties are far superior to what’s provided at this location. In addition, the value for these pop up tents are not worth the price. For a weekend day rental, the rates are $750+, which DOES NOT include a bottle of wine or champagne; only 2 cocktails and some ancillary items (fruit platter, sodas, etc). As a comparison, an over the water cabana at the Renaissance Aruba resort is $400 per day, which includes a bottle of champagne, a fruit platter, ice cream, snorkeling equipment, etc. Cabanas at other Florida properties are also priced below this rate, and all provide at least one bottle of champagne. In short, if you’re going to rent cabanas at a premium price, please provide a premium product at minimum, which should include a basic champagne at minimum. The beach is a typical Florida beach, nothing special. There is beach towel/chair service, of which the staff helps you set up your chair. Keep in mind that this service is included in your daily resort fee price of $35. However, I found it odd that the beach staff did not fully set up the chairs and towels for you. They assist you by placing the towels along the back of the chairs- but not unfolding and laying the towels flat out on the lounger back and base, where you can immediately lay down for some sun. Again, this is what I’ve experienced at past “luxury properties” therefore this is not a high end experience. The beach chairs are also outdated as well, and need to be replaced. There is NO bar/restaurant service on the beach. This is a local law, so nothing that the hotel can do about it at this point. It is however a great inconvenience. Lastly, and what will most likely make me come back to this property even with all the outlined opportunities; complimentary vehicles for guests to use at no cost- which also happen to be Mercedes Benz vehicles, This is something that I’ve never experienced at any of the previously mentioned properties, and it is definitely a differentiator for this Ritz Carlton compared to other properties. Just this feature alone almost makes up where they lack in other areas. It is a convenient and very premium service that I’ve never experienced throughout my travels. Other locations of course provide complimentary transportation for guests, but nothing where they are handing you the keys to a $75K brand new vehicle, and saying enjoy your day. Overall, this property will exceed the expectations for most travelers, but for those that are accustomed to premium services/experiences from comparable brands such as 4 Seasons, St. Regis, Conrad, etc., this property will fall significantly short for the value in many areas. As this property is also going through a renovation, it’s obvious they are cutting corners in some areas; original 30 yr old light fixtures still in ice machine stations.

Dear Taron35, Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review of your recent stay on Trip Advisor. And, thank you for your loyalty to all of our brands as a lifetime Titanium Bonvoy member. We are thrilled that you enjoyed experiencing one of the fabulous Mercedes Benz vehicles! Our guests really enjoy taking those out for the day to see the island. With regards to the beach and cabana feedback we concur with your comments. We are in the process of installing new beach chairs and sunbrellas for the summer season as well as new cabanas on the pool deck. We know that many guests enjoy reserving cabanas at the pool and enjoying the spectacular Atlantic Ocean beach. We hope that you can enjoy these on your next visit. Thank you again on behalf of all of our Ladies and Gentlemen.

Unfortunately we had a less than desirable experience. When we arrived, everything was a bit chaotic. The valet seemed to be understaffed. Food trays were left in the elevator for hours. At the Marriott reception in the morning, there was no coffee. Upon checkout, our bill was incorrect; someone had charged $50 in cereal to our room. Just would have thought a Ritz would have been higher quality and service.
