Travelers' Choice
The Shandon hotel & spa overlooks the breathtakingly beautiful Sheephaven Bay and is located on the Wild Atlantic Way Route being just a short drive from Dunfanaghy and Horn Head. This reasonably new Donegal Hotel is probably one of very few hotels that can say that almost every bedroom has a spectacular view of the sea, the lobby, bar, swimming pool, thermal spa, relaxation room & outdoor Canadian hot-tub all, overlook the beautiful bay, hills & countryside.

Stayed 3 nights, room was much too hot when we arrived on Monday pm. . It took a full day to cool down. Condensation on the window is a huge problem. Water running down the glass on to the window sill inside. I didn't like to use the towels to wipe it up. Room was attended/ cleaned etc very well each morning. Breakfast is plentiful. Porridge is excellent. We spent the daylight hours travelling to Ros Goill, and Dungloe, via the beautiful coast. Very disappointed to return Wed at 4 pm, to find the pool was closed. It was my intention to swim each day, very slack of management not to give advance notice. I appreciated the availability of a wheelchair space for the car.

Stayed here late November 2022, girls spa break, noelle who also works at Shandon as spa therapist spoke so highly of the hotel and spa, we couldnt wait to go, we were not disappointed!! From the moment we arrived, the staff were so friendly and helpful, Courtney gave us an informative and professional tour of spa, I had an amazing treatment with Rita, we thoroughly enjoyed the hydro pool and outdoor hot tub where we were brought prosecco! Spa manager Evelyn checked in with us in the relaxation area, a lovely touch, thank you! Our bedroom had an amazing view (fantastic views generally from this hotel) Santa weekends were also on, and a drive through movie experience which you could watch from room too (sound via TV), we had dinner in bar area, chef Eoin came to see us, a lovely touch, food was amazing, resturant and bar staff were so helpful, music/live entertainment completed our night and a wonderful breakfast the next morning completed our stay, I would highly recommend this hotel, its location is perfect, staff and service first class, thank you to all but especially Noelle xx

I went to the Shandon Hotel with my family for their Santa experience, which when Santa came to our room, it made my daughters night! Next we got to meet Mrs Claus, which was again fabulous, as everything was beautifully decorated and getting in the Christmas spirit. I did find a few downsides however, I had booked a wheelchair accessible room and when we got there, the wardrobe where the hangers were, you’d have had to have been very tall to reach them or the bottles of water at a similar height, with no pull down handle in sight. Next, when I went check the bathroom, I was shocked, as there was a pull down hand rail one side of the toilet and a heating rack for towels on the other side, so if you needed extra grip like me, you had to choose between a burn or holding on very tightly, then I went to look at the shower which was nice and sturdy, but the shower gel/shampoo was at the wrong side of the shower, it was beside the sink, instead of being beside the shower, which I feel did them a disservice, as for all it would take to move this around, it would be a lovely room. Mrs Claus was sadly down a very dark and steep ramp, so got my cardio in going up/down to see her, but maybe need to rethink location of this on dark nights for safety alone, as it was quite dim. The staff were extremely helpful and when asked to help, they did anything they could, but sadly the room didn’t quite measure up.

From start to finish on our trip to the Spa we were treated very professionally. The girls are so welcoming and friendly. We were a work group of 8 ladies looking forward to a relaxing afternoon and we were certainly not disappointed. We availed of the "Winter Warmer" offer, what a great idea, an ideal way to destress on the run up to Christmas and all its busyness. The thermal suite and hot tub were a joy. And the treatments were excellent, my therapist Rita was exceptionally good at the massage. We will certainly be returning and keeping our eye out for any future offers. What a beautiful place to have on our doorstep.

Our family stay was a wonderful Christmas experience that was made so very special and memorable for our first family visit with our new baby. We were greeted on arrival by the lovely staff and manager Miro and guest relations Helena. They made us feel very welcome and special, happy to see us and our family. We were given conjoining rooms so the grandparents could be next door to us. We were even able to request a mini fridge to store our baby's bottles. We had a lovely dinner in the McCarthy suite and staff was super friendly and looked after our every need. Later on we had a visit from Santa in our rooms upstairs and after we visited MrsClause in her winter wonderland. The decor was exquisite and dreamy. We also had the drive-in movie in the car park. Once we had the baba asleep the grandparents relaxed upstairs and babysat while my partner and I enjoyed a few cocktails and drinks in the bar. The music was good, the craics too, even got a wee dance in! Back in our room, our bed was super comfy and we were kept warm all night. The following morning we were greeted by a selection of continental breakfast and a good aul Irish fry. The food tasted unreal and was super fresh. My favorite was the mini croissants and Nutella. We were able to take our baby for her first swim in the leisure centre pool which she thoroughly enjoyed. I was able to escape to the Spa and was greeted by the wonderful Eileen and Orla, who directed me through and explained how everything worked. I had an amazing massage from Rhiann, she even worked on my shoulder area and was able to help me relax fully. Very professional and polite, I was so impressed. I will definitely be back again in future for a treatment! Overall we had a wonderful time and made alot of memories. A trip of a lifetime that we will never forget!

The hotel is a beautiful place and my son had a great time meeting Santa. Although when we went for dinner we had a terrible experience, the menu was seriously over priced for food that wasn’t great, my sons sausages were burnt, my burger was dry, my friends chicken was watery and had no flavour. So I obviously complained and the manager took it off our bill but not before making us feel awful for saying anything. He stated that he himself tried my burger and that it wasn’t dry and then went on to say well it is what it is now and we have taking it off your bill.. more or less making out I was complaining for free food! (We didn’t eat it) I then when to reception and complained about how I was treated and they apologised but not one thing about them was sincere, my friend is 6months pregnant and we hadn’t had any food, there was nowhere that delivered to there. I just felt the whole experience was horrendous and they didn’t do one thing to try and make it better. We then ordered room service and paid another €50 for a curry and pasta!! I will never be back in this hotel and as a business owner myself I would of done a lot more to make up for the experience we had
