Jebel Shams Resort is located in the Wilayat of Al Hamra which is part of the Ancient city of NIZWA. The Resort is built atop of the highest peak in Oman. Jebel Shams is known as "The Mountain of The Sun" and rises to an altitude of 3000 metres. The most amazing sunsets can be experienced from here. A 4 x 4 vehicle is the recommended form of transport to reach our location and takes approximately 40 minutes to ascend from the nearest town of AL-Hamra. The area is home to weavers of heavy woolen rugs in distinctive colours and geometric designs. The views of the Grand Canyon from Jebel Shams Resort are amazing, ideally situated just minutes walk away from the Canyon and some fabulous Trekking and Mountain Biking, just some activities available to our guests. The temperature in Summer is ideal, usually around 30 degrees Celcius, which makes it an ideal place for a weekend break from the heat of the city's of Muscat and elsewhere for weekend breaks or a great place to explore for visitors around the Globe. Please come and visit us at our retreat and enjoy a wonderful welcome from our staff and take in the fascinating view of the Grand Canyon and the entire plateau.

This is all about being near the hiking trails for sunrise and sunset. So we realized it was not a luxury accommodation. The food was sufficient for dinner (actually a nice selection buffet with many options). We were allowed to bring our own bottle of wine to dinner to enjoy with our meal. The cottage rooms were very comfortable except for the bathroom had some plumbing issues and clearly the sewer smell was not contained properly and the floor was constantly wet from the sink and shower leaking. But the beds were sufficiently comfortable and the room was clean. A perfectly decent option for our single night stay.

We had lunch in this 'highest restaurant in Oman'. The lunch was bad, cold and not tasty. So keep money in your pocket and take your picknick into the mountains. Very basic place. It is poorly maintained. But ... the canyon is really nearby.

While this may not be 5 star accommodation we found the room very comfortable, clean and spacious. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Although dinner was good, breakfast was poor. But the best part is the position. A short walk out of the gate and up the road and you have magnificent views of Wadi Ghul.

Overrated and overpriced basic accommodation. Poor food selection compared to similar offers. We booked and paid in advance for two nights. Could only suffer one night in Chalet without heat. Dishonestly promised refund several times. Still waiting.
