Driving in the gravel drive was like visiting the beach house of old friends from my early days growing up in the area. MBC is a 20 acre nature preserve with historical cottages scattered about. This is a venue to relax with your partner. Or bring your children and grandchildren and get connected - without glitz and hustle bustle. Sea turtle nests galore. Land tortoises (gophers) are frequently seen. Cottages come with beach chairs and umbrellas. They are spotlessly clean, ironed sheets from hotel linen company, comfy mattress and pillows. We 110% appreciate the 3 day vacancy between guests and the use of UV lights in their cleaning protocol. In an effort to avoid contact due to COVID, we brought our groceries from home. Each unit has it's own central A/C unit (a big plus in this COVID era). We cooked on the charcoal grill every evening (don't forget your matches). We visited the seafood market at the southern end of the key to buy "super fresh from the gulf" shrimp, mangrove snapper and a tasty key lime pie. We ventured out to the Beach Road Wine Bistro for lunch one day. We hiked Buffy's Nature Trail, played shuffleboard, visited the library by the Clubhouse, did a little fishing from the dock across the road on Lemon Bay, used the huge pool surrounded by natural fauna and a Great Blue Heron who stopped in for a drink. And of course the sunsets! Other guests were of similar mindset - like us - Floridians on stay-cations. One couple comes every July for a month and stays in the same cottage; another couple from nearby Sarasota are repeaters. The same family has owned MBC since 1960. In the winter season the pace picks up when the chef returns from a resort in the NE to present 3 lovely meals daily, the neighbors who are club members return to their winter homes on the key and many out of state families return for a week or 2 winter retreat. Jackets & ties for the gents on Fri & Sat night in season. On our last evening, we sat on the steps to the beach and soon a big loggerhead turtle came out of the sea and made her nest about 5 feet from where we were sitting - we didn't move until she began laying her eggs. It was a beautiful 90 min experience - primitive and simple - amazing. If you've never experienced old Florida with modern conveniences and you appreciate nature, peace & quiet, then you'll too feel MBC is a hidden gem. We're looking forward to another staycataion in the next month or so.

I am hesitant to write this as I don’t want the secret of this place to get out. My wife and I stayed for a weekend and it was the perfect relaxing trip. The photos don’t do the rooms justice, fantastic ocean views. They take covid safety seriously. Cottages are vacant for three days before being rented, have separate ac systems, and there is no food service. We brought our own. Each cottage has a bbq grill. The oak trees are beautiful. You can hear the ocean everywhere, great breeze. You come here for the beach and it doesn’t disappoint. We found so many sharks teeth and turtle tracks. It is unspoiled and raw. They also have a nice pool, shuffleboard, tennis, kayaks, etc. I will say this place may not be for everyone. It is very old Florida. If you want a resort experience, this ain’t the place. But personally, my wife and I are already talking about when we can come back.

Hors d’ouevres and a great 5 course dinner in “old Florida”, relaxed elegance. Jacket and tie required on weekends. We had lobster bisque, rack of lamb and prime rib. No cash accepted; everything is billed to the member’s account.

There’s a tear in the time space continuum here. Welcome to gentile Florida. No loud music, no flashing lights. Just surf, breathtaking sunsets, exceptional food and smiles...lots of genuine, do glad you’re here, smiles. The Manasota Beach Club has been keeping old Florida alive for decades. You don’t come here to wind up, this is where you come to wind down. Try it you won’t want to go back to the future.

Manasota Beach Club is a hidden gem that most tourists to Florida have never imagined. The facilities are spacious and comfortable, in a beautiful natural setting consisting of native plants that is expertly maintained. The roaming gopher tortoises cheerfully share their ancestral homes with a visiting human population. And of course, the beauty of the beach and the spectacular Gulf of Mexico is at your doorstep.
