My friend and I were over the moon excited for a girls' trip weekend getaway. We started making plans to stay at the Henderson Resort and Spa with a spa day and had been saving our pennies to splurge on something special since we no longer live close to each other. However, the weekend was riddled with issues ranging from straight up massively disappointing to several minor inconveniences. Issue 1: The Spa. We got off our plane on Friday afternoon, Apr 12, and were greeted in sunny Destin by a voicemail and email from the Henderson Spa saying that our massages were canceled for Sunday due to unforeseen construction work. We were devastated; the Henderson Spa is in it's own league, lovely beyond imagination. We called, and were told that we could keep our facial appointment and add another skincare service for 25% off. We weren't interested in getting our nails done, which were already done, and we already had facials scheduled. We begged for them to accommodate us in any possible way (we work high-stress jobs in the DC area and couldn't wait to unwind with a massage; this is a once-a-year treat/splurge), but were told that due to legal constraints, the massage therapists could not improvise and provide services in the guests' rooms, on the beach, or in any other room on the property. To say this was disappointing was an understatement. We scrambled in our Uber to try to find a backup (after all: this was essentially the POINT/highlight of our trip), and thankfully we snagged the very last two spa appointments at the Hilton Sandestin. The Henderson Spa Director did call us later that evening to try to make things right, and gave us access to the poolside cabana for the next day of our stay, alongside a complimentary lunch which the spa paid for. This was very much appreciated, but it didn't detract from a large part of the discouragement. Issue 2: Facilities. Our room was stiflingly hot and humid when we arrived. We tried to finagle the A/C, but it appeared to be malfunctioning. We decided to turn on the ceiling fan and deal with it later, as we were anxious to get to the pool and start our weekend of fun. In the evening after our return, the room was still hot and stagnate. We called the front desk and they sent someone from maintenance to the room, who fixed the thermostat and said the cold air valve (or something of the like) was turned off. When the weather outside hits 80 and sunny, why is the A/C disabled in the hotel rooms? Additionally, the elevator by our room broke down on day 2 of our visit, so we had to walk much further for the rest of the trip to find a different elevator on our floor, including with heavy luggage on the final day of our trip. Not the end of the world, but annoying (doesn't a resort like this have maintenance techs on call 24/7?) Issue 3: Dining part 1. After a relaxing/lazy day at the pool and beach, we decided to get some room service and were both in the mood for sushi. We called, and sushi was not on the room service menu/couldn't be delivered to the room because it's the hotel policy since some sushi is raw (we were ordering cooked sushi, but that's beside the point). We were told by the lady who answered the in-room dining phone that we could order takeout sushi from Horizons and just bring it up to our rooms. Seemed silly, but we called and were told by the frazzled bartender that we got bad info, that in fact Horizons doesn't do carryout, and they were quite busy at the moment, and that IF we wanted to enjoy sushi in our room, we'd be required to come downstairs, be seated at a table, order the sushi, and then box it up to-go. We found this to be utterly ridiculous, but decided to get dressed and go downstairs and ended up just eating down there. It was a fiasco trying to get info on something simple: sushi for room service. Issue 4: Dining part 2. At the conclusion of our stay, during checkout, we were informed that we did not qualify for the $30 breakfast credit each day that we saw guests who stay at the resort are eligible for (on the website) and we confirmed w/ the staff at Primrose, who said yes, you'll get your comp/credit at checkout. Turns out that was for a specific breakfast package that, unbeknownst to us, we did not book. We thought it was for any guest of the Henderson Resort who was staying there. We would NOT have eaten here two days in a row if we'd known that we did not get the $30 towards our meals each day (the service was good, the food was okay). The manager was sympathetic, and agreed to comp the first day for us. But getting hit with a $150+ breakfast bill for the two days was an unwelcome surprise. Issue 5: Our bill. At checkout, we expected for the only incidental charge to be the sushi dinner, which we'd charged to the room, and were expecting to total roughly $60. Our incidental charges totaled over $150, which didn't add up. After further analysis, we discovered that the remainder of the charge outside of the sushi must have been leftover charges (drinks) from the "comp'd" lunch, which we were told was "entirely taken care of." At that point, we didn't have the energy or the emotional bandwidth to further fight the charges. But there were so many little mishaps, and this resort is **AFTER** your money... clearly... even charging an obscene $45 for a day to rent a beach chair/umbrella (we did this, and only spent an hour because the wind and water were both too cold to really enjoy), but come on. Overall: The Henderson is a lovely beachside resort and has a gorgeous facility (and, speaking from previous experience in 2022 and 2023 excluding this most recent one, a top-notch spa). However, after all of the hiccups, including all of the staff and their miscommunication amongst each other, we decided that we will NOT return here. At a resort of this caliber, the staff should constantly be trying to "get to yes" and the attitude of most folks seems to be the opposite. In our opinion, we needed to involve management far more than we should've had to at a Salamander Resort. (We've stayed at the Salamander in Middleburg, VA, which has markedly more accommodating staff/services). I can say that my experience at the Henderson Park Inn has always been top-notch... but the main hotel misses the mark, big time, as the price point for the food, quality, accommodations and amenities here doesn't match the service that you actually receive.

We had a fabulous stay during Spring Break! We stayed in a gulf view room and our view was wonderful. From the moment you hand the car off to the valet, to check in at the front desk, you can get a sense for the exceptional service at this hotel. I have stayed in hotels all over the world, and I can say that the service at this hotel competes with any hotel anywhere. We loved Berry at the front desk! She was amazing! Also Sherry at the concierge was fabulous and hooked us up with some fantastic dinner reservations! Our room was gorgeous with a separate tub and shower. Everything felt new and fresh and luxurious. It was incredibly spacious and we had a huge balcony. I do wish there was more furniture on the balcony to fill the space, but that is a minor criticism. The food at the hotel was delicious especially at Primrose. Our kids also had a fabulous time at Poppy’s Club several different days. The pools are wonderful and the beach…oh my that beach! The sand is white sugar and the water is crystal clear. Beach service was great although you have to book a beach setup the day before to get anything in the front row. So the very minor criticisms I have were that they did run out of towels at the pool. It wasn’t a huge deal but something that was a slight annoyance. Additionally they, like many in the hospitality industry, are suffering from understaffing. This was very apparent at the rooftop restaurant and that is the only place where service was a bit lacking. Also $16 for the saddest tiniest scoops of gelato I have ever seen in my life…problematic. This part of the hotel is the one place they need to focus and do some work. Overall, we love love loved the Henderson and would absolutely come back.

If you stay at the resort you must include some time in the spa. My family particularly enjoyed spending time in the salt room as well as the relaxation room in between treatments. Be sure to take advantage of the warm neck pillows while in the relaxation room. I would not normally choose to get a pedicure when spending time in a spa, however, I did get one here and had the pleasure of meeting Theresa. What immediately stood out was her warm and welcoming demeanor. She greeted me with a genuine smile which made me feel pampered and relaxed. Throughout the pedicure session Theresa carefully assessed the condition of my tired feet and nails, ensuring personalized care tailored to my specific needs. Her attention to detail left my feet looking and feeling revitalized. Theresa went above and beyond to elevate the experience with luxurious touches. From exfoliating scrubs to moisturizing massages, every step of the pedicure was infused with a sense of luxury and relaxation. She also recommended some products which have helped bring some of the spa feel home while also elevating my foot care between pedicures. She clearly takes pride in her job and enjoys making her clients feel pampered.

My husband and I are “locals” and have been going to The Henderson, almost on a daily basis for years. The most exciting news is the spa is now carrying “Doctor Babor” skin care products. I’ve personally been using their products for over 20 years and am thrilled that we have this luxury clinical grade skin care system that I can now access and purchase locally!! Thank you John VanEron for bringing this to the Resort Spa. Also, want to thank the entire team at The Henderson Resort for constantly improving our experience. Special thanks to Manager, Andrew Lott, our favorite chef, Tyler Simmons, the best concierge, Susan Pearce!

Great staff, location, amenities, and experience! We’ll definitely be staying here again. Our room wasn’t ready at check-in time, but the young lady who is the manager, named Berry, quickly made things right. Berry's trainee started to help us but kept running into little snags. BERRY, came to the rescue and made my wife and I felt the confidence that she would solve the problem at hand.

Stayed here for one night with my wife for our wedding anniversary. This experience could have been a better, easier process to say the least. I booked the room through my credit card for the upgrades perks program it offers. I opted for a more expensive package. This includes a resort credit, upgraded room, breakfast and a welcome amenity. Most of the hotel front desk were employees from South America as part of a work/training program. Anyways I was checked in by one of these employees. Basically no instruction, no details on the benefit package I paid for, no map, no advice where to park or offer to bring in luggage, just to let me know my room was still being serviced and that they would call me. I had to ask her all the questions. She didn't go over anything with me. No welcome amenity was given even though my package included. I mentioned that it was our anniversary, usually top tier hotels will do something nice, but that wasn't the case. Well we waited by the pool for the phone call we were supposed to get, and approximately 2 to 3 hours later, no call. So we went back and asked them what was going on. They said that things like this don't happen but our room was still not ready. So we waited again. The manager Anarosa, came out, apologized. She offered a comp to their restaurant Primrose for dining that evening. After almost another hour we received our room. Anarosa went over our paid package and explained everything how the trainees don't know much and they come to hotel for seasonal training. The next morning I went to the front desk to make sure that the charge wasn't applied to us because I had a feeling something would go wrong. The new front desk girl (who was also part of the training program) was clueless about this. Luckily Anarosa was there and she made the changes. She also instructed us about our resort credit and told us how much we had to spend. We told her that we didn't get a welcome amenity and she sent some macaroons to our room which was nice. Upon checkout, I asked for a final bill. The same front desk girl (trainee) from earlier was there but was with another new supervisor. Our bill included all the charges that Anarosa explained would be credit or comped. She did not believe me and was being quite rude about it. I told the trainee that Anarosa was with both of us just a few hours prior and she witnessed the conversation! She seemed to agree with me but all she said was that she cannot question the supervisor with her. This whole debate took about another 15 minutes. So I demanded I speak to Anarosa. First they said she was gone for the day but then after waiting 20 minutes we saw Anarosa. It's unbelievable how she just lied. Anyways Anarosa apologized again, she said that they didn't see the notes. She took care of all the charges she said would. Honestly, I paid extra to get these 'perks' which I thought would have been nicer for this special day but turned into a headache. Luckily Anarosa was very nice and took care of what needed to be even though I shouldn't have had to go through all the inconveniences.

We loved our stay at the resort, shout out to Joshua, hotel manager and Rron one of our servers. Joshua was super understanding and helpful with handling any concerns. Rron has the best energy and is so honest and down to earth we enjoyed our time at the pool.. The moment you walk in all the staff are very professional and sweet. The decor is beautiful. We stayed for 6 nights during spring break, and it was very very busy: Things went wrong but the hotel staff were calm and assured all will be fixed ,and it was, which is all you can expect when things out of their control go wrong. The beach and pool are beautiful, it does get packed during spring break so patience is a must. Pool is heated. They had a ton of activities for the kids and my kids had so much fun. My daughter even left a hand written note in the room thanking everyone for a wonderful stay. I liked the diversity of the guests, I got to meet people from all over the world so that was a great highlight: The elevator rides were always fun. You always have a Karen and a Ronald but for the most part I only witnessed one at the pool. This hotel is so beautiful and the cleaning staff do their best to keep it clean. We plan on coming back and appreciate all the recommendations for our next stay.

It's an absolutely stunning hotel with great facilities to suit all the family. The pools are very impressive and everywhere was immaculately clean. Even though the hotel was busy it didn't feel crowded and there were plenty of facilities and amenities. We loved our room which was really spacious and had a balcony overlooking the gulf. The location is right on the beach with great views. Sadly the resort is let down by the dining facilities and in particular breakfast. Every morning we had to wait a while for a table which wasn't a huge issue but on our last day only 3 tables were occupied whilst lots were waiting - that's not good for a hotel of this size. Secondly, breakfast service was so slow and disjointed- on our second morning my partner had his food and had finished before mine arrived 45 minutes later (after I had chased it). We also ordered drinks at the adult pool which never arrived. I'm hoping these are just glitches as it's a wonderful hotel
