My husband and I love to fish. We regularly watch Captain Jimmy Nelson on You Tube to find new places to visit for fishing trips. We’ve seen episodes where he has stayed at The Plantation and it always looked so pristine on tv so we thought we’d give it a try. On arrival we were surprised to see how much exterior maintenance the facility lacked. Check-in was great, but we noticed none of the staff wearing, including restaurant staff which was a bit concerning. Just to be safe and prevent possible COVID19 exposure, I planned to wipe all knobs and surfaces we would touch in our room with disinfectant. When I started cleaning I found the lamps were dusty, food and smudged fingerprints on mini fridge, hair in shower, and a tip envelope for the housekeeper was stained with what I think was red sauce. Wednesday and Thursday nights were fantastic and peaceful. But then Friday came and so did the party people. The walls of the hotel are paper thin and not sound proof at all. We had to call twice because the people next to us were blasting their music so loud we couldn’t sleep. Saturday night there was a boat with a very impressive sound system blasting NWA and Young Money until midnight (you could hear all about NWA’s b*****s and hoes right through our wall). Men openly peeing off the side of the hotel sea wall and not even trying to cover themselves when we walk by. Children running around until 1am because their drunk parents were too intoxicated to tell them to be quiet because people are sleeping. I’m surprised hotel security did not break up this rowdy group. One positive of the hotel is it is centrally located and it has a sea wall you can keep your boat moored to. Keep in mind boat slips are first come first served. It does get so crowded on Friday and Saturday night so if you don’t call it a day on the water by mid afternoon then you won’t be able to find a spot on the wall. We won’t be staying again. Next time we’ll rent a slip from a marina and stay at a different hotel.

Awesome accommodations with a great staff. Everyone was extremely helpful and courteous. Beautiful grounds. Love the Tiki Bar for light snacks and adult beverages after a day on the water. We've stayed eleven times prior to this three night stay. We shall be returning in early October for a five night stay. The Plantation is centrally located to everything we like to do and visit when in Crystal River. Five star stay!!

This place is gross. Carpets are disgusting, stairwells are horrific, not sure how often they clean but it is not often. Rooms are not the best (see picture for ceiling in bathroom), walls are paper thin, can hear everything out in the halls, neighboring rooms and doors slamming threw out the floor. The rooms are not relaxing at all. Pool is very dirty, ran out of towels and it wasn’t very busy. Staff was very courteous which was about the only positive. Majority of people staying here are very trashy. There was an argument out in the hallway of my floor my 2nd night between the room next to mine and room down the hall and it was no different than the Jerry Springer show. I will never come back. This place needs to be down graded to 1.5 stars.

Dear Valued Guest, We appreciate the time you took to complete our online survey, your feedback is important to us. I am very sorry to hear you did not enjoy your recent stay with us, please feel free to contact me directly with any specific details so that we can work towards better serving our guests. We have begun several renovation projects throughout the resort starting with new wood floors as well as the new furniture and decor in all the guest rooms. Soon we will also start renovating many of the common areas and the flooring. Management has reviewed your picture and engineering will fix this issue, thank you for letting us know. I am ecstatic that our staff delivered you the customer service you expected and that you found them friendly. I do apologize for the towels not getting replenished in a timely matter, we do go through them quickly as people take them for boating as well. We have security here for noisy guests and we do notify them when a guest alerts the front desk with a noise complaint or we hear it directly. We have people from all over the world come visit us. We are happy we have such a variety of clientele that stay with us, it is nice to meet different people and communicate with them. I hope you reconsider staying with us again so we can deliver you the experience you deserve the first time you came. With Gratitude, Maria L. Rogers Reservations Supervisor

This resort has great customer service and management but they really need to start investing in this property. For $300 a night it’s in need of many upgrades. The parking and tiki bar is open to the public and they say the pool is only for hotel guest but the only thing they reinforce is freedom boat club sea wall parking. We stayed here so we wouldn’t have to put the boat in and out of the water well we didn’t get sea wall parking any of the 3 nights we stayed. So the boat went in and out everyday. If I could do this trip again I would stay at the Hampton Inn around the corner and park at the plantation use the boat ramp and grab a drink from the tiki bar and blend in with the other 300 people in the pool who weren’t practicing social distancing.

Dear Valued Guest, I appreciate your feedback and the time you spent expressing your concerns. It is guests like you who share their feedback that helps us make improvements so our guests can create memories and come back and see us again. Our July weekends can be challenging on our seawall and we wish that our guests did not have to trailer in and out of our boat ramp but unfortunately it does happen. Although our boat ramp and Tiki bar are open to the public, we do have a security guard and two pool attendants who monitor the pool area for those who are not guests nor have a social membership with us. We strive to provide a superior guest experience and I do apologize that we failed to meet your expectations. Social distancing is enforced inside our lobby with marked off sections of 6 feet in distance. Our dining room also follows the social distance guidelines with 50 percent capacity and tables spaced accordingly. Our Tiki Bar area is also marked off as well for social distancing. Unfortunately, it is up to the individual to be responsible to social distance at the pool, we can only suggest and encourage it. We do have hand sanitizing stations in our lobby entrance and outside the pool area entrances. We do hope that you come back and see us again so we can provide you with a better experience that you so deserve. With Gratitude, Maria L. Rogers Reservations Supervisor.

We booked a “waterfront patio room,” and paid a premium price at $350 for a weekend at Crystal River. Having never been to this area, we weren’t sure what to expect, but certainly expected more. First, the “patio” was not a patio. It was a FILTHY, narrow area with garbage and dirty plastic chairs - see photos. Second, the room was disgustingly filthy, as if it hadn’t been cleaned at all except to make the bed. There was a mildew smell, which was very concerning because it seemed like there was mold in the shower. Also, during a time when cleanliness and sanitization are critical, we were concerned that this hotel was clearly not following health guidelines in the common areas, such as pool, restaurants, and lobby. The carpets were also very dirty and clearly hallways and other areas aren’t being regularly cleaned (visible, prominent dust, fingerprints, cobwebs). There was also a large party adjacent to us the night before that went until 3am... no, I didn’t call to complain. Rather, just tried to go back to sleep. I figured shouldn’t they have security, which would take care of this? Upon checkout in the morning, I asked for the manager and was approached by Guest Services Manager, Sandra Whitesell. I calmly and amicably explained the issues - the unclean room, the mildew smell, the garbage on the patio, the party. She listened impassively and then simply said “well, you already prepaid.” And, then proceeded to tell me that it was my fault for not calling security and not asking for the garbage to be cleaned off the patio or asking for my room to be cleaned when we checked in. She said it was scallop season, and unfortunately “we are very busy and some guests just don’t know how to behave.” When I said “is that it?” she just said “yes.” No apology, no acknowledgement, no responsibility. Not even a smile. It was clear this hotel doesn’t care if we ever come back. This is an aged, dirty hotel with terrible service. Most importantly, I would be concerned about cleanliness, health, and safety/security. They have a nice location on the water, but that’s about it. It is very run down, and has the feel of a set of cheap apartments. If you’re planning to go to this area and don’t prefer a low cost chain hotel, you might think this is a more upscale option. It’s not. Try a private house rental or stay a little farther away at a trusted hotel brand. You’ll have to drive over to the river anyway.
