I brought my family to the Resort of Cocoa Beach based on their claims on the phone that they follow CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of the corona virus. Boy was I wrong! The elevators have signs that only one person or one family can use an elevator at a time to promote social distancing. This afternoon, after waiting patiently for my turn for an elevator, my young granddaughter and I got into a vacant elevator only to have two men push their way into the elevator with us. I told them we are are practicing social distancing and wanted the elevator alone, but one of the men said it's a free world and he has as much a right in the elevator as anyone and he did not believe in social distancing. He very rudely told me to get off. I immediately went to the front desk only to be told there is nothing they can do. I described the two men and the floor I saw the elevator stop, but was told then can do nothing. They allowed me to talk to security--I described the situation and asked is they could locate the men to talk with them and was told the property manager will call me tomorrow. My advice to the public during this pandemic is do not be gullible l like I was. Obviously, I was given very misleading and inaccurate information about how the Resort of Cocoa Beach is taking precautions to protect its guests from COVID. From what I have experienced, they are not.

Response from Sandi T, General Manager at The Resort on Cocoa Beach
Responded today
Thank you for your comment, please allow us to respond. At the time this occurred our Security staff was helping clear guests from the pool area due to lightening. The Resort has made every effort to ensure a safe and clean environment for our guests and team members. Actions by one guest (not an employee) does not mean we are not practicing social distancing and it is unfair to say that as though it were true. The customer contacted the local Police and told them we were not practicing distancing. The police came and spoke to the guest and General Manager, leaving shortly thereafter without any issues. While we would love for everyone to follow rules common sense dictates that doesn’t always happen. Just like in the grocery stores! The customer did what she should do by asking them not to get on the elevator and she got off when they did not leave. She came to the Front Desk and told the Front Desk what had happened, and they contacted Security. Security told her they would investigate and refer the issue to the GM. Neither she nor the other guest were wearing a mask in the elevator. When she was addressing the staff, she wore no mask and did not follow the lobby social distancing signs by standing behind the glass provided at Front Desk. The General Manager subsequently contacted the customer and took her statement. She felt we should have staff at every elevator 24/7. Unfortunately, we do not have staffing to do that. Had it not been for the lightning storm there very well may have been a staff member there to assist. We did locate and talk to the offending customer. He apologized profusely saying he did not read the signs. He is an elderly man that uses a cane and just wanted to go to his room. I let him know that if we have another incident, he may have to leave the resort. He did ask that we apologize directly to the other guest. I did follow up and speak with the customer and let her know I talked to the man, gave her his apology and verified that she did not have any further issues and she finished her stay with us. As to our practices…We have distancing signs with limits at every amenity and all elevators. We hand out information to every guest at check in about social distancing procedures. Every staff member wears a mask in all common/public area. Sanitizing stations are all over the common areas. Our Quality Control staff is constantly wiping all areas (handles, buttons, tables, etc. in the common areas). We are using CDC recommended cleaning supplies in the rooms and common areas.

We had a very limited view of the ocean/beach. It was also very loud due to construction. On a positive note, the staff was very friendly and the room was well appointed. We booked an oceanfront resort in order to enjoy the beach and the view.

Arrived mid-week and issued 'oceanfront' room on lowest floor. These rooms face sand and vegetation with no view of ocean. Room located just above A/C units and hotel-beach egress. Staff refused to change room (10-day stay)... and refused to lower charge to non-oceanfront rate.
