This hotel is beautiful and the location is perfect to enjoy sunsets. Our Premier King Gulf Front room was a nice size for the two of us. Staff was helpful and friendly. The restaurant was struggling a little in the service area. We are not sure if it is due to trying to restaff from COVID. The breakfast buffet was the way to go for variety and price. The pool serving staff was awesome, friendly and efficient. The Sandbar after dinner was a great spot to relax, have fun and watch the sunset. Matt keeps the Sandbar alive. Two things not terrible but not at the top of our list are the pool is too small for the number of accommodations at this hotel and though you have easy access to the beach, it is the public beach. Now maybe we are comparing it to our stay at Opal's sister hotel Sand Pearl in Sept of 2020 where the pool is amazing and a section of the beach is strictly for Sand Pearl guest. Both of these hotels can be a little pricey but you get what you pay for. We like a little more upscale but not over the top elaborate.. We felt both of these hotels fell into this catagory.

We were there on a crowded Memorial Day weekend & masked staff were pleasant & unfailingly polite. We ate outside the Sea-guini with marvelous food, enjoyed good food & drinks at the Sandbar & ok food at the Pool Bar. We had the best day lounging gulfside by the pool, watching the manatees below and being waited on by smiling staff. The beach was a sea of humanity but fun, and quieter & lovely early & late in the day. We had a previous stay there pre-Covid and the quality has stayed high. Gorgeous room!

The hotel and its amenities were fine. The staff was fantastic, extremely helpful and courteous. However, the beach is TERRIBLE. It’s a public access point so extremely overcrowded. If I am at a resort, I want private beach access. In addition, my kids were bored quickly with the ocean. It’s like a lake. We have traveled to panhandle and east coach beaches and both had different amounts of waves, but still waves. This is like a lake with a ripple. Again, the hotel is lovely but if a beach vacation is what your family is wanting, this is not the place.

TA A wrote a review Jul 19
I had an unfortunate experience while staying at Opal Sands in Clearwater,FL. On the first day of our 5 day stay, approximately $500 of food, beverage and tips were charged to our room. In the 40+ years of traveling, this has NEVER happened to our family. We reflected on how this could have happened. We concluded the following: 1) there is NO SECURITY around the pool. Any non hotel guest can enter the pool. 2) pool attendants are not checking for wristbands. This is a serious problem that is occurring in this hotel. When I brought these fraudulent charges to the attention of the hotel personnel, Bailey assisted and was pleasant and removed one charge and Yilmaz Unal removed the last charge. Yilmaz was beyond rude and did not think this was a major issue and basically shrugged me off. He didn’t offer an apology or any sort of rectification of the issue. It’s unfortunate that the hotel is not taking the security of its guests seriously and therefore I would Not recommend this hotel.
