Detailed Reviews

Wonderful staff! We arrived hours early and took a chance asking if our room was ready yet. It wasn’t, but we were able to park on site and not have to pay for parking somewhere before walking out to explore. While walking, the front desk called to tell me, the room was ready, which happened to be about two hours before advertised check in. Staff was friendly and helpful at every turn. Dinner at the on-site restaurant was convenient and tasty. It was so great to be in a beach town and finally find a reasonably priced restaurant that doesn’t have seafood that is only fried on the menu. Our waitress was courteous, attentive, and professional. It seems we haven’t seen this in a long time and really appreciated experiencing her professionalism while at the restaurant. Another reviewer mentioned the music from the bar went on during the evening, disturbing their sleep. I figured it would just be background noise. But the live music from the bar was so incredibly loud that I had to blast the TV in our room in order to hear the show I was watching. I get that live music at a Resort is a thing, but the live music shouldn’t be so loud that the patrons can’t even comfortably watch the TV in their rooms. The live music stopped at 10pm. The pool was heated, but it wasn’t as warm as it was described to be. The balcony view was nice and the view from the pool area is lovely. It’s a few minutes walk to Clearwater Beach so if you’re carrying lots of stuff, be prepared. The room is somewhat dark and very dated. I had to unplug the alarm clock in order to access an outlet to charge my phone. Overall, I was happy to get a balcony room with a gulf view for a relatively reasonable price.

Thank you for taking time to share feedback on your visit. We're glad you found our staff helpful - everyone here wants each guest to leave with good memories. We're sorry the music disrupted your quiet time in the room. Your room's location was indeed lined up so the sound reached up to you. As for the beach, there is a trolley that goes right by the hotel and we're sorry you weren't told about that. We do hope you enjoyed beautiful Clearwater Beach and we hope you'll come back and see us again. Kind regards, Christine Bottger General Manager

Hotel's Favorite
We arrived early, several hours before check in time, and our room understandably was not ready. The person at the front desk told us they would call us as soon as a room would be available. They also told us we had access to the pool and patio areas of the hotel. We decided to wait for our room at the beach which was a short walk away. We spent a couple hours at the beach and returned to use the pool area which was very nice. We hadn't received a call yet so we asked if anything was available and the desk person told us there was a room available if we would like to take it instead of our intended room. We accepted and we were not disappointed. The room had a waterfront view overlooking the hotel restaurant patio. In the evening we could sit on our balcony and listen to the live entertainment and watch the sunset. The room was very clean and roomy. The beds weren't exactly the best. The mattresses probably need to be replaced. Mine felt like I was sleeping in a canoe. Not the worst I've ever slept in but worth mentioning. In the end we enjoyed our stay. Every staff member we came in contact with was wonderful. We would recommend this hotel any day of the week. Oh the Tiki bar was an excellent option for a cocktail by the pool.

We booked our annual convention and stayed in Mid-September with about 70 rooms that were booked for mostly two nights each over a weekend. The group rate we were given was amazing with respect to the waterfront location on Clearwater Beach. Our group totaled around 175 and included some day visitors who did not stay overnight. We utilized the meeting rooms Duval, Siesta, and Longboat A&B. Ashley was fantastic in assisting us during the entire process, though in a few instances I had to call/email a few times to get responses. Overall, she was quite cheerful and pleasant to work with, helping us to make the most of our space.
We had two meals, a Saturday Buffet dinner and a Sunday Breakfast which were priced fairly and delivered quality banquet style food. The service staff were all amazing, especially Melissa who went above and beyond for us.
We did have some challenges along the way with the air conditioning in Duval, however, we were offered an alternate space for our meals at Edge (right next door) which greatly assisted for Sunday Breakfast and the close of our program. General manager Christine became involved and worked with us to make things right to our satisfaction. Despite those challenges, we would certainly book again and recommend this property to others.
Special recognition to Ashley, Melissa (server), Michael (engineering) Mike R. (restaurant manager), Missy and the front desk team, and Christine. We’ll be calling again if our group finds our way back to Clearwater Beach

I have been staying at Holiday Inn Express at 521 S Gulfview Blvd for years. I usually travel and stay there every couple of months. I even spent my honeymoon there. Over the last couple of years I have seen a decline in this hotel. My last trip in March I invited my sons friend and his mom to come with and I spent over an hour on the phone with the reservation desk just to make sure we could get a room on the first floor by the pool. I even confirmed this information prior to arriving and when I got there I was told there were no rooms by the pool available and then got stuck on the 7th floor. The room we had had rippled old carpet and the cleaning crew every morning was knocking on our door at 10 a.m. wanting to come and clean. The elevator went down a couple of times so had to take the stairs from the 7th floor. The coffee maker didn't work and took then an hour to get someone to come and bring a new coffee maker. I even had to call them twice to find out when someone would be coming. The pool needs repair has tiles falling off. They also charge extra $30 per day for parking which with the prices they charge for the room I think parking should be included for their guest. The new hotel I found actually did include parking. We also would eat at Jimmy's and one night went to dinner and waited over an hour to find out that our food order was not put in and didn't even offer to cover our drinks for this mistake. Then for breakfast we couldn't even sit outside on their patio and was told they didn't have the staff so we had to eat inside. I ordered the lobster benedict and was told that they don't have lobster but would use crab meat instead but they still charge you $17. It was never the money for me and had no problem paying the high prices, it was more about the experience and enjoying time away with my family. I really loved this hotel over the years but the last couple visits have not been good so I found another hotel at 1/2 the price and just stayed at the new hotel in July and I am glad I made the switch! As a loyal customer for over 20 years it was very sad to have to find a new hotel because the customer service just isn't there anymore.

We are so very sorry that you, a loyal guest, found you recent experiences less than satisfactory. You didn't mention if you called attention to any management but I personally would have wanted to hear from you while you were here, especially on the housekeeping issues and room location. Jimmy's Fish House has a different management that we do - and they have their own TripAdvisor listing. You might want to alert them to the issues you had because they also want each guest to have a fine experience. If you care to phone me to discuss this further, please do so because twenty years of memories shouldn't end this way. Thank you, Christine Bottger, General Manager 727-447-6461

This is the second time we have stayed here (April, 2023 and just got back from our March 2024 trip). While I have read some negative reviews about this hotel, I have to disagree with many of the things that others have said. We chose this hotel the second time around because of the gulf view rooms (we stayed in 514, overlooking Jimmy's with a perfect view of the water), the location to everything on south beach, its pool, tiki bar, and Jimmy's restaurant with live music. We even set up our iPad on the balcony to watch some NCAA bball action with the live music at Jimmy's in the background. In addition to that, our rooms were cleaned to perfection every single day. Their cleaning staff is top notch. Would we stay here again? Absolutely! Oh, and the on site doughnut/coffee shop is a plus, too! We really appreciate having a home-away-from-home here.

This hotel is very dated and untidy for the holiday inn chain. There were stains on the chair, the light and fan did not work in the shower and shower had no pressure because water was coming out the bath tap as well. The front desk were not helpful or friendly when checking in. The pool towels are almost worn out and rough. When you book a room for 2 adults and 2 kids I don’t understand why 4 towels are not put in the bathroom. We rang and got extra towels but the next day housekeeping took them and only replaced with 2 towels again. This happened every day and is very frustrating as it’s the simple things that matter

We stayed here for 5 nights in July 2024. 2 adults and 3 children. The hotel was clean, location is good and the pool was good.
The hotel in my view requires updating and the pool could do with more brollies. Also there appeared to be many people using the pool that were not staying at the hotel despite the hotel insisting on us wearing a wrist band. Our main issue was on arrival we did not receive the children eat free voucher at the restaurant on site until our penultimate day. On querying this with reception gave us the voucher for the final day and a half and a free breakfast voucher for my husband and I. I was informed very condescendingly by both the receptionist and the manager that this was complementary as it was not part of my package. Complementary to me would have been a refund of the money we had spent in the restaurant and the voucher on top. Despite receiving an email directly from the manager to which I responded I have heard nothing further.
Conclusion if the hotel is to remain in competition with the surrounding hotels it requires to up its game and the staff require training on being front of house.
At this point I would not recommend this hotel.

This is a mixed bag property. It definitely needs renovating. I have stayed there before, but it’s time to change the wallpaper redo the bathrooms. The one good thing is the bed was good. I don’t like the fact that we took the breakfast package and they wanted to charge us for our coffee and our iced tea For two nights and ended up being over $900. I don’t think this property is worth that the front desk extremely accommodating even helped us to the room with the bags as they don’t have a bell anymore. I had my daughter’s wedding there 15 years ago and the food was fantastic, hence my return there for a little weekend getaway with my friend. I don’t think I would stay there again.

Quite honestly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The doors didn’t lock and could be opened easily with a hefty shove which was advantageous as the key cards never worked. The decor was tired, shabby and dated and the hotel had a musty smell constantly. This may have been something to do with the bird nesting in the air con unit in the corridor of floor 5 which loudly chirped constantly and was fed by the staff. Luckily the sound of the chirping through the night was drowned out by the ridiculously loud air conditioning units whos volume resembled that of a small jumbo jet.
Staff were rude and showed no customer service skills, presumably because complaints were a very common occurrence. The donut place in the foyer sold delicious coffee and donuts yet despite being advertised as closing at 5 they had usually sold out of donuts by 3 and the coffee machine was turned off and floors swept by 4.30. The pool area had a lovely view of the gulf but there were only 3 umbrellas for shade and the toilets were closed due to them being broken for our entire stay.
Just dreadful, and expensively dreadful at that.

Location was good with several restaurants and shops nearby and very close to the beach.
The room was clean and comfortable. There was no safe in the room. The standard free breakfast is not included but there is a restaurant within the hotel although I preferred to use the nearby restaurants. The trolley bus stops close to and opposite the hotel. The swimming pool is adequate for adults and children and there is a sunbathing veranda facing the sea. There is a self laundry facility. I would certainly recommend this hotel.

We had two beds both vacations.
No free breakfast, but there is a crepe restaurant next door. Parking was $30 I believe. We are Platinum and did not get any perks besides 500 welcome points.
