The Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach tends to impress guests with its pristine rooms and modern amenities, including pool access and beach essentials. While travelers appreciate the hotel's exceptional location near the beach and local hotspots, some have reservations about the value, citing additional fees that can add up. Service is generally applauded for being attentive, though occasional lapses are noted. Despite the praise for the hotel's overall cleanliness and service, the ambiance can sometimes be marred by noise and a dated aesthetic in places.

After an absence of a few years from our Annual celebratory vacation at the Wyndham Grand in Clearwater, my wife and I booked our trip a few months ago for a return visit to Clearwater beach, which we fell in love with 14 years ago during our first visit to the Beach.

We had booked and communicated with the first GM David Yamada in late 2022, who grew to be more of a friend with each passing year. Sadly, I learned from his wife of his passing earlier this year after he had worked on a successful transfer to a new ownership group who brought in a new management company to run the Property while keeping the Wyndham name.

We debated about our trip but wanted to visit the Property to remember David and see the changes from 2019.

Fortunately, the Property named as GM Seth McDaniels one of the senior management staff of the new operating Group who worked closely with David and was an obvious choice to run the Property. Mr McDaniels was very courteous to respond to my reach-out and despite being scheduled to be away during our visit, put me in touch with one of his senior staff Nick Darato while we visited. It was very nice of Management to give us a great upgrade as a Diamond Member and extra special while celebrating at Ocean Hai (the best restaurant in the area hands-down) to arrange a nice surprise for my wife and I.

The Property still is awesome, with its location, facilities (gym, pool, spa) staff (shout out to Tammy), Housekeeping (shout out to Lisa) , Pool area (shout out to the towel attendants) and restaurant (shout out to Manger Sergio and Rauf).

Given the addition of new hotels, I saw new faces among staff, which is to be expected and clearly the new GM is building his team to maintain (and grow) the excellent reputation of this property. No easy task with all of the new properties built as well as bring built.

Our stay was great and we thank all the staff for their courtesy, friendliness and service. Clearly GM McDaniels deserves kudos for the seamless transition.

Now a few tips to my fellow travelers.

When the hotel is sold out and there can be line at the elevator, take the elevators around the corner to the 3rd floor and walk over to the room elevators and push down or up for a faster ride to your rooms.

Second I found out the hard way that if your valet auto is parked on floor 4 or 5, you will have to wait a while to have your car brought around (I spoke to Tammy about this)

Third when you receive a voucher that gives discounts ranging from 10-20% to visit various facilities, start with the lobby bar and then if your are visiting Ocean Hai, use that second is worth a 15% discount.

Fourth, these employees work really hard to give you a great experience. Please remember to tip not just Housekeeping, but valet and also the towel attendants (clearly it was unusual because I received the widest smiles and thank yous)

Enjoy the great experience at this wonderful Resort.

This is probably one of the best-put together resorts you will probably stay at. Kudos to the interior designers who put this place together, as it is wonderfully relaxing with pastels, light woods and color coordination everywhere. I found that the more attention you paid to the details, the more creative stuff you appreciated. The room was not very big, but it was pretty inside, the beds were comfortable and the Gulf view did not disappoint. This would have been a perfect stay except for a few minor details. Firstly when we checked in, the seating area on the balcony reeked of cigarette smoke......clearly the cleaner did not check this area after the previous occupant's departure. Kudos go to the reception agent who immediately sent someone to spray down the area and deodorize. Secondly, you should be aware that this hotel is not actually on the beach.....you have to cross the street to get to it (minor inconvenience for most people). Thirdly the blow dryer did not work properly and I also observed a couple of ants on the bedside table. Did not bother with reporting these things as we were only there for the weekend and I wanted to maximize my enjoyment time. Finally, when checking out, the reception agent could not provide me with a receipt to review because the printers were not working; she offer to send me an emailed receipt, but 2 days later I am yet to receive it. Fantastic hotel and location, but they do need to work on a few small things.

Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights for a long weekend getaway to see the Phils and play some tennis. Hotel was very nice, beds comfy and staff very friendly.

Pros: Food at the hotel was nothing less than outstanding. The sushi at the restaurant was creative and well prepared but the most pleasant find was the food at the bar. The calamari was perfectly prepared and was possibly the best calamari we’ve ever had. Burger was absolutely delicious with the pork belly. The highlight was dessert. The Mockinbird dessert had pineapple gelato, lemon curd and fruit and was one of the greatest deserts we have had in our lives and we are serious about dessert. Got a 1/2 price bottle of wine for wine down Wednesday and all was well. I am back home and still thinking about the burger and the Mockingbird dessert.

The Spa waa very, very pricey but I must say we had a fantastic couple’s massage but over $400 for 80 minutes is alot. That being said we would use the spa again as the massage was that good.

Cons: as other reviewers noted the $35/day “Resort fee” is ridiculous. The weather did not cooperate when we were there so we never set foot in the pool nor used the beach, yet still had to pay the $35 per day. Add that to the $25/day parking and that tacked on $60 a day to the room price, which was not cheap. The 19% gratuity fee automatically added was equally annoying as I usually do not tip Starbucks 19% for a $4 cup of coffee. Note to hotel- Do away with annoying fees.

Tip- if your room faces the inter coastal make sure to get a high floor bc road noise is quite loud. Next time we will spend the extra money for a gulf view room.

We had a great stay and will return but will still complain about the added fees.

Beautiful property, immaculate, resort like, when you walk in fresh water dispensers with limes, lemons and oranges, the lobby smells heavenly, there is a great bar, can't say enough about the concierge, Sandra, bubbly, personable, makes you feel like family, goes out of her way to accomodate your requests. This hotel is newer 3 years old, contemporary style decor, Starbucks in the lobby, Great asian fusion restaurant on the property, also serves breakfast. The room was facing the marina, great views of the bay. Our maid service was wonderful, with turn down service at night, they give you 2 waters a day. People are always cleaning. It is located along the beach walk. Great place to stay, but they do charge resort and parking fees. The resort fee covers loungers and umbrella at the beach. They also have a pool with poolside restaurant. Valet parking only.

Lovely hotel, very modern, clean, nice rooms.

Staff on the bar need to stop chatting and joking around and serve people. Waited 9 minutes for a drink around 10pm one evening (there was me and 1 other person at the bar, they were too busy messing around to look up and see someone was looking for a drink)

$200 for a late check out of 3pm - absolutely disgusting! You should be ashamed of yourself charging that.

Cleaners walked into my room 3 times on the last day as they said i should be out the room by now (guess that $200 charge for a late check out needs to be invested in a communication system so the cleaners know if room have agreed late check outs?!)

Would i stay here again? No not at the price they charge.

Think I will try the Hyatt or head back to the hilton.

Amazing location on a pristine beach. We absolutely love this location and last year we came but used a different hotel. The Wyndham was impressive and we will most likely will choose again. My only suggestion here would be to kindly consider a microwave for guest...having a Keurig in the room was a nice touch though.

Our room was a king suite with a comfy bed and linens. Large screen tv and a lounger. Our deck looked over the pool and the deck table and chairs were of good quality (not cheap plastic).

Everyday we had 4 bottles of complimentary water and the coffee pods always refilled. Two robs for guest which is nice and a large wardrobe for clothes to be hung.

The pool here is beautiful and very busy but we spent most of our time at the beach. There is a hot tub and a beach bar that serve you which is very nice.
The beach chairs and umbrella are included in your stay as part of the resort fee. That for me was an added bonus🎉

One thing you should know when using any service here is they include a 19% gratuities tax on everything.

There are many good restaurants in the area and a Walgreens and Beach market with in walking distance. Save yourself the valet and parking fees and don’t rent a car..we got a taxi from Tampa airport for $60. There is a free taxi for anywhere you want to go within the area too.

All in all a wonderful vacation and interaction with all staff has been positive . Highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed here from July 6-10, 2020. The hotel check in was quick, and easy and the young woman at the counter was very friendly.

We loved the location of the hotel as it was directly in front of the beach and within walking distance, or a short drive, to many restaurants and attractions.

We did not use the pool at all while we were there. Many people, practically shoulder to shoulder, were in the pool. There was no social distancing in the pool whatsoever.
That is not the hotel's fault. However, the hotel did not attempt to separate pool chaises around the pool to encourage social distancing or limit the number of guests in the pool. The pool is small and on any "normal" day I would have probably gone in.
Everyone has a choice and my family and I made ours not to use the pool.

The hotel is very clean and beautiful. Our room was great and our beds and pillows comfortable.

Beach was really wavy and beautiful. Sand was powder and you did not need any water shoes to go to the beach. Beach chairs and umbrellas were a plus and included in your resort fee.

We had a wonderful time and would choose to stay here again.

Positives
Pool was heated to a nice warm temperature and a pleasure to be in. Seemed to be plenty of sunbeds and the whole area, atmosphere and view was really nice. Great to hang out there.
Great view from sea view room we had.
Great location
Great restaurant we had a really nice dinner there.
Most staff great

Negative
Relatively minor issues but when prices and expectations are high, worth mentioning as nice places like this should strive for perfection.
Guest being checked in next to us received a glass of champagne and a great welcome, we were offered nothing (from the young lady on the left) except keys. I'm not sure if that is only offered to special people or she was just rude. Either way it felt like a snub and put us in a bad mood.
Carpet in room was flithy, made our feet dirty quickly.
2 bottles of water in room with a note saying we can buy more if we want, when resort fee says you get 4? So didn't have enough for first night and had to go out and buy some. Anyway we got more in following days from housekeeping.
Free coffee in lobby from 3am to 6am, who is drinking coffee at 3am? Seems very tight and designed specifically to save money whilst appearing to give something.
Some uncomfortable lobby seats that slope down so you fall off them.
Lovely lady playing music in the lobby, except she had a casket for tips in front of her which made you feel like you couldn't relax and listen unless you gave her money. I have travelled in good quality hotels throughout the world and never seen this. Its like you're paying so much to be in a nice hotel and the hotel is not paying their staff so they must ask us for money? I get the tip culture but this cheapens the experience IMO.
Shower was in a narrow bath and could be stronger, we prefer a walk in shower.
Bunk bed in our room (for kids) was shaky, difficult to get up/down, easy to fall off the top and dangerous IMO.

Recently spent two nights as a staycation getaway and wanted to be on the beach. This hotel did not disappoint! All of the covid-19 guidelines were very strictly enforced and I felt extremely safe and comfortable in the resort. The hotel staff was extremely accommodating, as we had a bit of a hiccup upon arrival with our room. Front desk staff quickly corrected the issue, and continued to make our stay very pleasant. The room was extremely clean and the balcony was very spacious. We celebrated our wedding anniversary and staff delighted us with a complimentary bottle of champagne in our room!! Such a beautiful gesture!!
Everywhere throughout the resort, staff was cited cleaning handles and public areas and all Personnel were wearing masks.
We had dinner one night at the Hotel restaurant Ocean Hai... food was delicious and the setting was very relaxing! Staff couldn't have been more accommodating.
The pool area is a little smaller considering how many rooms there are, but the Beach area had all of the chairs spaced out nicely and was not overcrowded. Definitely we'll be coming back to this Resort, as it is in a good location and nice area to walk around in the evenings. If you're looking for a place on Clearwater Beach, don't pass this one up!

This is a beautiful four star resort directly across the street from a beautiful beach. Our room was just as beautiful with a nice shower only bathroom. The shower had excellent pressure and plenty of real hot water which was nice as the weather was unseasonable cold for March. I found the beds to be quite soft and I like a soft mattress but these were even a little soft for me. The linens we all clean and cozy.
We had a very a small and very narrow balcony with two chairs placed sideways as the balcony was too narrow to fit the chairs any other way. It was more trouble than it was worth to sit but it was a nice standing balcony with a southern exposure so we had a side view of the beach and gulf.

We booked the room on hot wire as we had a credit and got a great rate of only $199. After taxes and fees, we paid approximately $717 for three nights. We chose to upgrade our room to a double on check-in for an agreed $25 a night. When we checked out, we paid a little over $300 which included the $25 a night upgrade as well as a small upgrade fee, approximately $30 a day parking fee, an additional fee to park and approximately $30 a day resort amenity fee. I should mention that none other than a few minor fees were of surprise to us and the resort does post these fees on their website as did hotwire.. I just prefer to pay all fees in full when booking with the exception of maybe parking.

We chose to go in peak season so the hotel, beach and surrounding area was all mobbed. We were in bumper to bumper traffic driving out there, the pool was mobbed, there was a line to get on elevators and lines to get in the hot tub. Dr. Fauci would have been pretty upset. The hotel has a mask policy but it is not enforced at all. About half the guest in the resort and all of staff wear masks so if you don't like wearing masks you are good but if you think people should, this may not be your place.

Our room was cleaned each night between 6pm and 7 pm. On our last night, we had to ask for it to be cleaned as they only dropped off towels. The girl seemed quite annoyed but made up the room nicely.

There are plenty of good restaurants all in walking distance and despite the crowds, we never waited too long for a table. We never ate at the restaurant on-site. They have a Keurig which we love because we can bring our own K-cups. They bought milk for $4 a day for our coffee. Our own fault. They do have a minifridge that would hold a quart of milk.
