Cedar Key, Florida is reminiscent of days gone by. A quiet fishing village that exudes Old Florida charm, Cedar Key is one of several barrier islands off the Gulf Coast and remains unspoiled by the commercialism of the tourism industry. In Cedar Key you will fall in love with the natural beauty and friendly faces that make up the laid back community. The friendly, laid back culture of the island matches perfectly with the feeling you get when you arrive at Pirates Cove. Brian and Lisa purchased Pirates Cove in 2018 and are intent on it remaining a family owned and operated business. It will always remain the same beloved Old Florida retreat, and as Lisa and Brian add their own personal touches you will continue to see their love of the area reflected in the property. At Pirates Cove, each of our seven cottages are equipped to make your stay feel like a home away from home. Guests are welcome to bring kayaks to explore the mangrove islands right from the back of our cottages or fish off of our dock. Please note that kayaking and fishing are tide dependent and we provide tide charts in every cottage. We are also a short stroll to the unique shops and chef-inspired restaurants of Cedar Key.

We just had a great stay! Cottages are very clean with a comfortable bed. The courtyard is a great place to hang out and enjoy the weather. The owners were onsite everyday and very friendly. She was even willing to dry our clothes after we arrived on our motorcycles in a rain storm. We also rented the golf cart which was a great way to see the island (and much cheaper than the carts offered downtown).

My husband, our dog and I stayed at this wonderful charming cottage in Cedar key Florida. It was a surprise trip for me and when I got there I still didn’t know where I was because I had never heard of it. Well you are all missing a little slice of heaven if you haven’t seen Cedar key Florida. And what a wonderful place to stat—Pirates Cove Cottages. The cottages were charming and immaculate, partially renovated but was told it’s an ongoing process. The owners welcomed us as if we were old friends! Brian gave us a thorough lowdown of Cedar Key and it’s 10 local restaurants, no chains of any kind. Pirates Cove Cottages has a cute little courtyard with Astroturf to avoid mud, bugs etc. which they kept clean. They left you alone as much as you wanted or would be involved in anything you need. We will definitely be coming back! And did I mention our dog Ringo enjoyed it just as much!

According to the owner we were the 1st to rent their new bicycles. We were not staying at their cottages. Bikes were clean, seats adjustable to fit each person's need, worked smoothly for our 5 day rental, & came with a lock for security. Each bike had a small license plate with the Pirates Cove logo & phone number & we were encouraged to call if we had any bicycle needs - which we did not. Our only suggestion was to have the option of baskets to make C Key shopping easier & safer, & the owner informed us that baskets have been order, but aren't presently available. A great experience with Pirates Cove staff & bikes!

What a wonderful stay we had at Pirates Cove. Lisa the owner was so sweet and charming, always greeted us with a smile and always asked if we needed anything. The rooms are cozy with all the amenities you need. We stayed in Cottage 4 which had a full kitchen ,screened back porch with a dock and water view. The bed was very comfortable and there was a ceiling fan along with 2 portable fans. The court yard has tables for outdoor dinning and 2 grills. At night the court yard lights up and there are fans to give a breeze. They have bicycles and golf carts for rent along with kayaks and fishing poles. The office also has DVD's , books and games and the rooms have limited cable, ( my channel was missing ) . For about $100 a night Pirates Cove is a great Value. When we return we will stay here again

I can't say enough about this amazing gem! The cute cottage in which I stayed (#5) was super clean and appointed with everything a guest might want - kitchen with everything you need, comfortable beds, great a/c (although it wasn't needed at this time of year) - and has a covered, outdoor porch with comfortable furniture overlooking the marsh. The friend with whom I travelled and I wound up spending most of our time on the porch because the setting was so incredibly relaxing and pretty. The docks are a wonderful amenity, as is the welcoming outdoor property at the front which is thoughtfully arranged with table and chair settings for the guests' enjoyment. The hosts, Lisa and Brian, are totally warm, welcoming, accommodating and helpful, and clearly want to make your stay perfect. For me, here is no better place on Cedar Key than this wonderful treasure.

Pirate's Cove Cottages provides an incredibly cool atmosphere. The cottages are small but comfortable. Brian and Lisa (owners) are very friendly and informative. The Pirate themed memorabilia and lighting in the trees along with a fountain made for a relaxing and fun time. The view of the morning sun rise was excellent fm nr 5. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was fm the condition of the hot plate and pots n pans. They are rusty and flaking what appears to be Teflon. I am sure the owners will address this issue as they are working very hard to provide a safe, clean and enjoyable place for people to stay. We would definitely recommend and will go back if in the area.

Response from Lisa Barrett, Owner at Pirates Cove Cottages

Thank you for your review. While we try our best to inspect everything in all seven of our cottages after every guest checks-out, we apologize that we didn't notice the wear on the pots and pans in your cottage prior to your arrival. We have since replaced the teflon coated pots and pans with brand new stainless steel ones.

My wife and I stayed at Pirates Cove in Cedar Key for a week the end of April. The accommodations were exactly as listed and I would say they were probably better. The appliances were clean and worked well. The HVAC was a mini-split heat pump, not a cheap window unit. Cedar Key was a lot of fun. We used our kayaks and bikes all the time. Kayaking off shore is easy and there is a lot to see. You could walk everywhere if you don't have bikes or you don't want to drive. Also, there are lots of day trips you can take from Cedar Key. We went to Three Sisters Springs and Silver Springs, highly recommended.

We stayed in two different cottages, both with beautiful views of the waterfront and mangroves—and an ever-changing display of wildlife. This morning as we packed we watched roseate spoonbills feeding! The cottages are bright, spotless, comfortable and well-equipped, with charming vintage details. We especially enjoyed the screened porch in our first cottage, though sipping wine on waterfront chairs outside our second cottage was also delightful. Owners Brian and Lisa were super friendly and helpful.

What a find! We had to switch to plan B for vacation this year and it gave us an opportunity to discover some places we always wanted to go. We stayed only 2 nights in Cottage #7 but it was excellent! Although the cottage is small, it is CLEAN and comfortable. The owners Lisa and Brian are so friendly and genuinely care about their guests and the quality of their stay. Cottage #7 has an awesome sunrise view from the screen porch as well as the attached community deck. We also rented a golf cart from Pirates Cove one day while we were there to explore the island and have some fun. (They also have bike rentals but it was too hot for that!) Website has pics of all the cottages and some floor plans. They have books, games, and DVDs to encourage disconnecting from electronics and connecting with each other! Rates are very reasonable too!

The owners - Brian and Lisa are the absolute best. We had an amazing time during our visit in June 2020. The amount of care and dedication, both to their cottages and their guests is nothing like we’ve experienced before in our family vacations across the Southeast. We can’t wait to come back to Cedar Key, but also back to Pirates Cove in the next year!

Hello and thank you for your question about pets. We have allowed pets in all seven of our cottages so unfortunately, we do not have one cottage that has ever been "pet free".
