Cedar Key, Florida is reminiscent of days gone by. A quiet fishing village that exudes Old Florida charm, Cedar Key is one of several barrier islands off the Gulf Coast and remains unspoiled by the commercialism of the tourism industry. In Cedar Key you will fall in love with the natural beauty and friendly faces that make up the laid back community. The friendly, laid back culture of the island matches perfectly with the feeling you get when you arrive at Pirates Cove. Brian and Lisa purchased Pirates Cove in 2018 and are intent on it remaining a family owned and operated business. It will always remain the same beloved Old Florida retreat, and as Lisa and Brian add their own personal touches you will continue to see their love of the area reflected in the property. At Pirates Cove, each of our seven cottages are equipped to make your stay feel like a home away from home. Guests are welcome to bring kayaks to explore the mangrove islands right from the back of our cottages or fish off of our dock. Please note that kayaking and fishing are tide dependent and we provide tide charts in every cottage. We are also a short stroll to the unique shops and chef-inspired restaurants of Cedar Key.

Quaint old Florida style cottages, backing up to a tidal water Marsh. Absolutely beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing!!! My husband and I stayed in cottage # 4. Jesse checked us in. She was very helpful, courteous, and kind. Highly recommended!!!

My husband, our dog and I stayed at this wonderful charming cottage in Cedar key Florida. It was a surprise trip for me and when I got there I still didn’t know where I was because I had never heard of it. Well you are all missing a little slice of heaven if you haven’t seen Cedar key Florida. And what a wonderful place to stat—Pirates Cove Cottages. The cottages were charming and immaculate, partially renovated but was told it’s an ongoing process. The owners welcomed us as if we were old friends! Brian gave us a thorough lowdown of Cedar Key and it’s 10 local restaurants, no chains of any kind. Pirates Cove Cottages has a cute little courtyard with Astroturf to avoid mud, bugs etc. which they kept clean. They left you alone as much as you wanted or would be involved in anything you need. We will definitely be coming back! And did I mention our dog Ringo enjoyed it just as much!

These Cottages are just BEFORE you get into town. Quaint, clean, nice courtyard, on the water. Try to get waterfront, it there’s a shared dock as well behind Cottage #7. Owners are very friendly, helpful. Tiki Bar on the water is just down the street. 1/2 mi. to town. Strange town(mainly fishing,clamming)- very boring 2+ hr drive from Orlando, one road IN & OUT. Seasonal/wknd visitors mainly. We met friends there.. Water all around is Tidal, so up and down. Small town (4 streets mainly) w/ some shops/ restaurants. Some hotels, etc in need of facelift. Advice: stay at a Nice 4* rated place by water/ town for best visit. We weren’t Impressed , overall! 😳

Pirates Cove was the perfect place to stay while we visited Cedar Key. Brian and Lisa were very hospitable and made us feel comfortable and welcome! Their virtual tour of town, things to do, places to eat, etc. was very helpful. The courtyard was a beautiful place to hang out and play cards or just enjoy the nice weather--the ambiance was so relaxing! We rented bikes for a day which was an easy and fun way to explore the whole island. The deck overlooking the canal was a perfect spot to enjoy the sunrise and watch all kinds of birds. My husband and I loved our stay at Pirates Cove and enjoyed the quaint town of Cedar Key!

I was there in late March 2022. The weather for the most part was mid 70's and sunshine. Every morning, coffee on my deck watching the perfect sunrise. Truly a sight to see. There are NO commercial businesses as far as Walmart, McD's, Dunkin Doughnuts, etc....... There are approximately 700 hundred full time residents on the island and everything is done by or with them. Stores, gift shops, restaurants, bars, charter fishing, clam boats, etc all by the residence here. NO PRESSURE anywhere. Do as you want, when you want in your own golf cart !! Lay around or do a Pub Crawl....... Your day will be as full as YOU make it. At the end of the day, an exceptional place to stay is the ultimate R&R reward. Pirate's Cove is that place. Brian and Lisa are the best hosts that anyone anywhere would or could hope for. The cottages are top notch, well decorated, well kept for and very, very clean. My bed was more comfortable than the one I sleep on at home, just outstanding. They have a grilling area that we used a few times. Shrimp boil, burgers, steaks.......... and cold beer !! What more can you ask for ???? I know !!! The sunsets are absolutely spectacular......... This little place is so much more than a vacation, it could very easily become an addiction. I'm already booked for next year. Thank you Brian and Lisa having Pirate's Cove. It could still be there, but I don't think it would be the same being run by anyone else. You two and your hospitality make it worth the trip.

My love & I celebrated our wedding weekend with family and friends at Pirates Cove the last weekend of July 2021. Brian & Lisa were wonderful hosts from the very first inquiry to check out. They were very easy-going, allowing us to move outdoor furniture and have additional guests for the ceremony on the dock. The cottages were all unique and spotlessly clean. Our photographs are a testament to the gorgeous property. It was everything we could have hoped for and more. My only regret is that one cottage out of the 7 was already booked by another family. We were fine with this arrangement and knew well ahead of time. In the future though, I would recommend blocking off the full property for events. I can't wait to return to celebrate our anniversary!

Response from Lisa Barrett, Owner at Pirates Cove Cottages
Responded Dec 15, 2021
These visitors wrote a review of Cedar Key on this page and did not even spend the night in a cottage. They checked in around 3pm, didn’t have time for our virtual tour of town and rushed off to explore. They returned 20 minutes later, complained about everything they saw in Cedar Key, asked for a refund and left the island. They never brought in their luggage. Had they taken our complimentary virtual tour at check-in, we would have pointed out open pet and handicapped friendly businesses, things to do, places to see, and what not to miss during their stay. We’d have explained that the temporary “sea of muck” behind the cottages and all of Cedar Key is known as low tide. We’re always happy to answer any questions, give a free map of town and provide a tide chart. Cedar Key’s annual holiday festivities and lights started the next evening. We understand Cedar Key is not for everyone, however, a little bit of planning goes a long way. We have photos and floor plans of our cottages on our website so expectations can be met ahead of time. The cottage they reserved is a guest favorite that is booked almost every day of the year. Our cottages were built in the 1950’s, are Old Florida at its best, and thousands of guests rave about Pirates Cove each year, calling it a quaint and magical place. These visitors should have reviewed each business they were disappointed in, rather than ours because we did not issue a refund (our one night stay refund policy was clearly stated prior to their arrival). Here is a review from a guest who actually stayed the same evening in another cottage and had a pet. “Great little spot with all you need for a nice stay. Well kept and tidy. Sunrise over the water is a nice way to start your day. Just spent one night, and I wish I had more time to explore town. Will be back.”

According to the owner we were the 1st to rent their new bicycles. We were not staying at their cottages. Bikes were clean, seats adjustable to fit each person's need, worked smoothly for our 5 day rental, & came with a lock for security. Each bike had a small license plate with the Pirates Cove logo & phone number & we were encouraged to call if we had any bicycle needs - which we did not. Our only suggestion was to have the option of baskets to make C Key shopping easier & safer, & the owner informed us that baskets have been order, but aren't presently available. A great experience with Pirates Cove staff & bikes!

Great spot in a convenient location - at a great price! Not fancy but super clean, very comfy and everything you need. As a single woman traveler I felt very safe & secure here. The golf carts and bicycles are terrific amenities. Next time I’ll better use of the grills.

My wife and I stayed at Pirates Cove in Cedar Key for a week the end of April. The accommodations were exactly as listed and I would say they were probably better. The appliances were clean and worked well. The HVAC was a mini-split heat pump, not a cheap window unit. Cedar Key was a lot of fun. We used our kayaks and bikes all the time. Kayaking off shore is easy and there is a lot to see. You could walk everywhere if you don't have bikes or you don't want to drive. Also, there are lots of day trips you can take from Cedar Key. We went to Three Sisters Springs and Silver Springs, highly recommended.
