Detailed Reviews
We visit Cedar Key every year while we Snowbird. Previously we've stayed at Perry, Cross City or Chiefland after kayaking at Cedar Key. Those three towns leave a LOT to be desired for hotels. This year we took a chance and reserved a room at Harbour Master Suites in Cedar Key. Cedar Key is a rustic town formerly a fishing and clamming town now transformed into a tourist fishing destination.
We reserved the "Gardens" Suite, a charming bedroom/living room/kitchen/bathroom with tub. Two air conditioning controls for the two main rooms, microwave, full size refrigerator, king-size bed, coffee maker (the real kind). The cost was only $135 for a weekday, an outrageously cheeep rate for a full suite. It isn't a water view but a view to Dock street. Who cares.
We were leery when we checked in at the gift shop downstairs and escorted two flights up by the cheerful, helpful lady. Walking in we were stunned by the clean, comfortable, cozy suite.
Parking was a problem so we parked a block away and management sent a golf cart to pick us up with our luggage. Cheerful staff lugged our luggage up to the suite.
The staff and management deserve kudos for their cheerful, helpful demeanor.
We're staying there from now on when we kayak at Cedar Key.

I don't think you could find a nicer location in Cedar Key than this place. I actually had trouble getting a waterfront suite because they were booked out so far in advance, but we were able to get Corrigan's Reef Suite for out stay.
I think a lot of people shy away from this suite because of the location near the outside dining at the restaurant next door. We didn't have a choice, but I am glad that we booked it. It is a very large room, and it has everything you need to make your stay enjoyable and memorable. The water view is great, and you also get to check out the fishing pier to see how much luck the fishermen are having. Of course, you will always have seagulls and other birds to deal with especially with the outdoor patrons at the restaurant offering their food to them! Wish they wouldn't do that, but I guess there is no way to fix that! They have wires, fish line and other things to discourage the birds, but they will find your seats, and you will have to clean it up if you want to sit outside!
Really just a minor inconvenience compared to the view and how peaceful this place is! The bed is comfortable, the plumbing and shower are fine, and lots of room to sit or enjoy a glass of wine or snacks in your room. A TV if you really get bored, but we didn't watch it much.
Restaurants are really close. Even the ones that are further away are only a few minutes' walk. Looking on the map it looks a lot further than it really is. There are a lot of places that rent golf carts if you want to go that route. We are in pretty good shape, so walking is not a problem for us.
The workers are super friendly and helpful, and the gift shop is really unique with lots of choices if you want to shop.
Parking, well, that is a premium, but you can work around that if you are patient and creative. I found out that they also have parking by the firehouse (across the bridge) and they will pick you up with their golf cart!
Would I return? We are already trying to figure out when that will be. I don't think I would stay anywhere else!

We woke up one morning and decided we needed to “get away from it all”! We drove to Cedar Key and were able to get reservations for the “Sunkissed” suite. This hotel makes use of every nook and cranny! It is directly on the gulf..... on the water! Their brochure offers several different suites, all with cute names; we chose the smallest, as we were only staying one night. It was well-equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. Most suites have their own private balcony with table and chairs, ours was on a breezeway, (which no one walked through) and therefore was private! We watched the sunset at the end of Dock Street, and watched the spectacular cloud display and lightning from the privacy of our balcony… while enjoying an adult beverage! Our suite faced the east, so we were able to see a sunrise over the water, while on the West Coast of Florida! Harbor Master Suites offer different views from different suites. Each suite has its own “flavor“… Not like your average roadway motel. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. There is an adorable gift shop on the first floor…… The Dilly Dally Galley. Always like to help the local economy! We would definitely go there again!

We love the location, have visited often, the room we always stay in is wonderful, we have recommended to friends/family who have visited but now we are unable to get just one night if our schedule allows and they have a two night only policy. This has forced us to look at other locations who will give us numerous one night only accommodations. Very disappointed.

Dear Joe & Judy, Unfortunately, we are well aware of your disappointment with our recent policy change regarding one-night reservations for our waterfront suites. As we explained to you and your husband during our phone conversation, current staffing situations have required us to make a few changes. Again, we did offer you beautiful suites that we had available for one-night reservations, which you declined. - Amy Henderson, Owner

We had the Forget-Me-Not room for two night’s. The room is literally over the water. The windows extended over the entire length of two sides of the room. We had a balcony on one side of the room that was the length of the room. The bed faces east so every morning you could see the sunrise. But we got up and sat on our balcony and watched the morning sun come up along with the pelicans and the Dolphins literally swimming almost right below us. The room was very spacious. The room is decorated cutesy with a love seat and a recliner. The room was on the main floor, so there are no steps to climb. It was an extremely spacious room. The check-in is in a gift shop along the street in front of the rooms. The ladies that checked us in were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. One of them even took us to the room and showed us where everything was. The next morning there was even a note on our door from the staff. wanting to know if there was anything we needed. It is easy walking around town from this location, there are restaurants on both sides of the place and across the street. We will definitely be coming back here.

My coworker and I stayed here for the weekend and this place was the best experience I have had in a long time. Staff was professional from the time we checked in until we checked out. The room was a very nice two bedroom, one bath, full kitchen, living room, wrap around deck, and patio. Our room was the only room in the third floor. You can watch the sun rise from your bed and overlook the water. The price you pay for the room a very well worth it and you won't be disappointed. Their shop is also nice with great gift options and not expensive. You can beat excellent customer service, excellent room and board, and shopping all in one.

We reserved 2 nights here a year ago & so very glad that we did. This February, we discovered that it is one of the most peaceful places we have ever stayed. We selected the 'Forget me not' room since we needed a room without stairs. It is spacious, beautifully decorated (exactly as per their website) & spotless. Sitting out on the deck, right over the gulf, we watched a dolphin flipping in & out of the water better than Flipper. We were a little concerned that the nearby bar would be loud @ night but they were not. Maybe it was the time of year, but the entire area was quiet & calm. Our room had a great selection of decorative pillows that ended up piled on the couch & the full sized fridge/freezer was convenient for storing water & drinks.
This is a uniquely decorated & laid out inn, unlike any we have visited in the past, with a very nicely stocked gift shop & extremely helpful and friendly staff. Parking can be very challenging since they do not have a designated lot but there is street parking right out front & the staff will give direction as well.
The resilience & rebuilding of this small town was so obvious after a severe hit by the recent hurricane that we have vowed to return ASAP. And stay @ Cedar Key Harbour Master Suites.

We stayed here about 3 years ago in a room on the front which was the size of a condo. This time we stayed on the back side in a somewhat smaller room, but it had a full kitchenette, dining area, king bed, living room area with large sofa and lounge chair, a sizeable dressing/vanity area with separate area for shower and toilet. And...a wrap-around balcony with bistro table and chairs looking right over the water!
The town whil small is relaxing, cozy, friendly and fun.

Second stay at HMS. Exceptional location on Cedar Key!
Staff very accommodating. Comfortable bed. Out favorite is the very special balcony right on the water. We stayed out there most of the time( seeing all the wonderful sea creatures and birds) except for dining(which was fabulous) at every place we went to. We rented a double kayak( Cedar KeyAdventures) taking it to Otie Key and around. Rented 20' pontoon for 4 hrs from Cedar Key boat rentals Captain Joe ( great value) ( explored the whole 5 mi radius key area) .and took in a river cruise in Crystal River.
Special thanks to Mary for being so helpful settling us in and helping with our groceries .
Hope to return one day.

If you are concerned, then book a room at Harbour Master Suites and avoid the problem. The rates are similar, and you can ask about a weekly rate. The view will be nicer. And it is closer to the "activities" of their town.
No pets allowed. This policy is posted on their website.
I do not believe so. But, Dave R's advice is great. Call "Pam" at 352-543-9146. (I love dogs but my son is so highly allergic to animal dander --- like absolutely ruin a vacation --- I prefer lodgings that do NOT allow dogs.)
No pool, but the town beach is a short walk up the way.
