. From the moment we arrived with our two dogs Jenn and Harry couldn't have made us feel more welcome.. When Jenn met the dogs she left to bake them dog treats and brought dog beds, bowls, and toys. ) d. The room was spotless as were all the common areas. The home is set on Big Pine Key and was a quiet peaceful setting in contrast Key West, though you can reach Key West in an easy drive.. Given the seclusion, be prepared for the "no see ums" that are very annoying. All of the rooms have balconies with an ocean view and there is seating in the sand near the water. The view of the water was particularlly calming in this quiet setting. . At night the stars were brilliant. Jenn and Harry were so kind. friendly, and helpful . At breakfast Jenn would ask if anyone needed help with their plans for the day and made some excellent recommendations. Jenn made some of the most delicious and beautifully presented breakfasts we have had. Breakfast were vegan, we are not, but guests that are meat eaters will not feel anything is missing. I am not accustom to such large breakfasts but looked forward to them each morning. The breakfasts were served in a communal setting that allows you to get to know other guest and have some interesting conversation with Harry. Both Jenn and Harry are devoted to their vegan life style and the plight of animals. Harry works to educate on sea turtles. We found Jenn and Harry to be an inspiration but did not impose their life choices on guests.

The location is outstanding and the service was very accommodating. You’ll read other reviews about noise and that is accurate. You will hear people walking up the stairs depending on your room. If your in the bathroom you might also hear conversation from the other room. For the price it didn’t turn me off but it is there. I read previous reviews about the owners being overly vegan in their approach but I didn’t find that to be an issue. Harry and Jen were very accommodating and pet friendly. I would have given it a 5 stars but the beach isn’t really usable because of the seaweed etc. and you can hear other occupants from your room depending on the time of day.

Great location, friendly staff and prior to Covid outstanding breakfast. The prepackaged breakfast are ok but nothing like they used to be from what I read. I give them credit for trying. I would definitely go back. Pictures are of the dog room. Highly recommended if your looking for a B&B.

Fresh, well designed B&B. Vegan breakfast ample and delicious, even for those not vegan. Amazing views of Atlantic from the partial ocean view room. Owners are generous, gracious and helpful. They even provide insect repellent and screened areas if those pesky noseeums are around. Key deer frolicked on the sand right off my balcony. Beach chairs for relaxing or sunset viewing. I appreciated the private location.

We had a relaxing stay in an oceanfront room and enjoyed seeing the deer and birds that frequent the property. The location is very quiet and remote so you really do feel like you've gotten away from it all. We took the kayaks out one morning and had a great time paddling around the mangroves and spotting all types of birds and even a sea turtle.

Unfortunately they no longer provide a full breakfast, which was rather disappointing after reading all the previous rave reviews. Some vegan baked goods and fresh fruit are put out in the morning alongside paper plates and disposable cutlery. We went to Winn Dixie and purchased some other breakfast items as we just cannot eat pastries every morning. There is a fridge in the room, which was definitely very handy. I do recommend purchasing the vegan boxed lunches, which are healthy and delicious.

I'd rate our stay here as just fine but sadly not worth the price. I regretted spending $3,000 in total for 5 nights here.

Response from Jen D, Owner at Deer Run on The Atlantic
Responded Mar 20, 2023
Hi Melanie, thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent stay at Deer Run on the Atlantic. We appreciate that you chose our location as part of your stay in the Keys. Both Harry and I are sorry that you were not happy with our breakfast. As Covid wore on, it became evident to us that most travelers preferred more flexibility with their time, including their breakfast choices with so many people declining food completely. Our website has been updated with our current business model for quite a while, including prior to when you booked. In fact our site was updated prior to when we even reopened for reservations at all after our summer break. We also made a point to rebrand after we reopened from Hurricane Irma with “Deer Run on the Atlantic” to help people realize there had been changes, which are stated on our website. We’re glad you enjoyed the box lunch option. We added that when we shifted the breakfast. Our goal with that is to offer affordable, delicious lunch, to be enjoyed by any guests at their chosen time. This is another way we work to accommodate the traveler’s desire for more autonomy. We have no control over older reviews that discuss amenities that are no longer here. We can only be responsible for content created by us under our control, which is our website and social media presence. While it’s disheartening to read that you regret staying here because of what seems like solely the breakfast, we are happy you enjoyed pretty much everything else about Deer Run, especially the location and kayaks. Use of our kayaks, bicycles, salt water spa, parking on our gated property and room amenities of private bath, flat screen TV and Wi-Fi do not come with any resort fees, usage fees, or whatever so many other places call hidden upcharges. Our inclusive rates are exceptionally competitive in the Florida Keys; we strive to do our best, always have and always will. Our interactions were all positive during your stay; we do not even recall even a hint that you were as dissatisfied as your review states. We would have welcomed dialogue while you were here regarding what else we could have done to transmit to you or any other traveler what to expect during your stay, as well as to open dialogue on any other concerns. We’ve been here close to 20 years, and our industry continues to flex as the world, and travelers, have changed. Instead of retiring, we have battled back through a devastating hurricane causing us to close for 2 solid years, and then Covid changing the travelscape most likely for a very long time to come. We have done what is possible within our control to make very clear what we do offer at Deer Run on the Atlantic. We remain grateful you did stay with us, and hope that you are able to find what you seek in the future. Respectfully, Harry & Jen Innkeepers and Owners

We loved the seclusion of this wonderful B&B..breakfast was nice and as an extra bonus they have started doing a packed lunch for 15$ per person. Harry was incredibly informative and Jen was very kind to share her recipes with me.
Seeing the deer wander around was magical and lots of other wildlife pootling around too.
Just make sure you have good bug spray as the noseeums were horrendous.

There are literally Key deer wandering through the property throughout the day. Big room, good a/c, great balcony, so private a quiet... perfect spot for me and my husband for 4 nights. The vegan breakfasts are huge. It's away from hustle and bustle. Having the bikes and kayaks there is so nice, and we spent one day just sitting around the deck, beach, and screened-in ground floor open area all day with no one around.

We are currently enjoying a wonderful week at Harry and Jen’s b&b. The breakfasts are terrific and filling (we don’t need lunch), the bedroom is comfortable and inviting. The property is welcoming and the kayaks, bikes and visiting deer add to the stay.

It’s remote — you need a rental car! — but easy access to neighboring Keys. Highly recommend

We are in Room 3, which is lovely but 1&2 have the fuller ocean view.

Harry & Jenn are delightful hosts in this amazing location. Their amazing B&B is one of the best we’ve ever enjoyed. The rooms are delightful & extremely clean. We aren’t vegan so we were wonderfully surprised by how delicious the breakfasts tasted.
We hope we can come back to enjoy their amazing hospitality.

If you are tired of the noise and hustle of Key West, Deer Run is the perfect getaway in the Keys. Quiet and restful, yet within an easy drive to Marathon, Islamorada or Key West. Our hosts Jen and Harry were thoughtful without being intrusive. Breakfast is fro 8 to 8:30. Although it is vegan, there was plenty to enjoy, but why not give it a try anyway. Located right on the ocean, the deer are plentiful and fearless. We had a wonderful week.

So small and quaint! We had an ocean front room and it was just perfect! Jen and Harry were very nice and accommodating! Literally every evening we sat outside the key deer would come right up to us as the sun was going down. It was just perfect! We also use the kayaks and bikes they have on the property. We aren’t vegan but Jen is an excellent cook and we enjoyed the breakfast, the muffins were my favorite!!! We will definitely be back one day!
