The location is good being able to walk around Lewes and parking on site is easy and ample. I rated it average because I’m not sure there is anything that makes it above average. There’s nothing great about the rooms or the breakfast. There’s no great perks that come with the price. The room I had on the 2nd floor had no view. The room was actually very loud because of the sliding door of the guest above us late at night and early in the morning. During this time of heightened awareness of the spread of coronavirus (June 26-29,2020), it was disappointing to see the breakfast area attendant not wearing her mask over her nose, only over her mouth. I looked past it the first morning when we grabbed juice and coffee as a simple slip. But on the 2nd morning it was clearly her “thing” to not wear it properly.

Response from , General Manager at Inn at Canal Square

Hello, I am sorry to learn of your issues that you had during your stay. As I am sure you noticed, we were at capacity on the weekend that you stayed with us. I saw that you had made your reservation 2 days prior to your arrival, and we booked you into the only room that we had available. Also because of the regulations with Covid-19 we are limited with what we can supply guests within our rooms, and what we can offer for breakfast. In regard to our breakfast attendant’s mask being below her nose, I do apologize for that. It is always our policy that masks be worn properly in the breakfast room and other public areas within the INN. The employee has since been counseled about how to properly wear her mask.

I just wanted to post this because I know that not every hotel is as accommodating and the situation is tough for everyone. Unfortunately, we haven't had a chance to stay at the Inn yet due to the current pandemic. However, the customer service is fabulous. All questions I had in regards to bringing the dogs were answered instantly. Although it is stated on their website that there is a $30 cancellation fee they waived that without me asking for it and refunded everything. Once this is over we will definitely book a trip.

Stayed one night at this excellent place on a first-time weekend getaway to Lewes. Booked the room by calling the property directly despite its website showing no availability for a one-night September Saturday stay. WHAT WAS GOOD: Our king room was large and featured a private balcony with an excellent view overlooking the canal and harbor. Furnishings were nice, a bit unique and different from your standard hotel stuff….The in-town location is excellent. You can easily walk to all the village’s shops, restaurants and other amenities….Breakfast featured very good baked goods, fruits, cheeses, sliced ham and a few hot items. It’s served in a pleasant sitting area on the ground floor and is definitely a cut above the normal included-with-room continental variety….Hallways and common areas are elegantly furnished and feature art pieces, providing a sense of culture and refinement. WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER: I can’t think of anything. THINGS TO KNOW: As mentioned a moment ago, you can easily cover the entire village on foot. You’ll likely want a car to get the nearest beach, which looks to be about a mile away along a busy road. BOTTOM LINE: Excellent choice for visiting Lewes. I plan to stay again.

I have stayed at the Inn before and each time I've enjoyed my stay. Our room faced the water, it was very clean with complimentary drinks and snacks. There are fresh flowers daily and the aroma fills the air. It is an easy walk to the town which has boutiques and great restaurants. We ate at the Heirloom and the food is excellent.

My husband and I stayed at the Inn the weekend before Christmas. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The price was reasonable, undoubtedly because it was off season. The Inn provided a delicious European style breakfast buffet in the morning, which was much nicer than any of the chain hotels/motels. The front desk was manned by Oz, who was very gracious and friendly.
