Detailed Reviews
We returned to Lewes this week for our 29th anniversary and stayed at the Inn at Canal Square. The corner room (no balcony) was a good deal, had loads of room, was very tastefully appointed, and a very comfortable bed. The room layout is very smart. This is not a big inn, and it's lovely. The people were uniformly friendly and solicitous. When an innkeeper couldn't break a $20 for me to get my wife a cola from the machine to waylay her migraine, he just gave me $2, one for her and one for me. The breakfast is continental, nothing exciting. They take great precautions for the virus. You can't beat the location or the view. We loved it.

I just wanted to post this because I know that not every hotel is as accommodating and the situation is tough for everyone.
Unfortunately, we haven't had a chance to stay at the Inn yet due to the current pandemic. However, the customer service is fabulous. All questions I had in regards to bringing the dogs were answered instantly.
Although it is stated on their website that there is a $30 cancellation fee they waived that without me asking for it and refunded everything.
Once this is over we will definitely book a trip.

We stayed at the Inn at Canal Square for two nights and I cannot wait to return. Inn is elegant, staff was helpful and kind and we so enjoyed our stay. In COVID-era traveling, what put my mind at ease the most, was the fact that this inn is so super clean. Owners hired a service to come in and scrub every inch of the entire inn. We look forward to returning to this inn, this relaxing environment and this quaint little town.

The location is good being able to walk around Lewes and parking on site is easy and ample. I rated it average because I’m not sure there is anything that makes it above average. There’s nothing great about the rooms or the breakfast. There’s no great perks that come with the price. The room I had on the 2nd floor had no view. The room was actually very loud because of the sliding door of the guest above us late at night and early in the morning.
During this time of heightened awareness of the spread of coronavirus (June 26-29,2020), it was disappointing to see the breakfast area attendant not wearing her mask over her nose, only over her mouth. I looked past it the first morning when we grabbed juice and coffee as a simple slip. But on the 2nd morning it was clearly her “thing” to not wear it properly.

Response from , General Manager at Inn at Canal Square
Responded Jul 9, 2020
Hello, I am sorry to learn of your issues that you had during your stay. As I am sure you noticed, we were at capacity on the weekend that you stayed with us. I saw that you had made your reservation 2 days prior to your arrival, and we booked you into the only room that we had available. Also because of the regulations with Covid-19 we are limited with what we can supply guests within our rooms, and what we can offer for breakfast. In regard to our breakfast attendant’s mask being below her nose, I do apologize for that. It is always our policy that masks be worn properly in the breakfast room and other public areas within the INN. The employee has since been counseled about how to properly wear her mask.

The central and charming location of the Inn makes up for many of its shortcomings but at $350 per night it should not have rooms with walls so thin that we could distinguish what our next-door neighbors were saying nor hear those in the room above doing what sounded like moving furniture. Noisy climate control, refrigerator and dehumidifier didn't help the situation. Maybe some of the rooms are quieter--it would be worth checking when you book. The hotel is very clean and the staff is gracious. We liked Harbor restaurant, which was steps away.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Inn at Canal Square and it ticked all the boxes we want from a hotel. The 4th floor room was spacious, quiet and had a nice view over the canal. Everyone we came in contact with in the hotel was very friendly, the breakfast was a good selection of fruits, pastries, breads, hard boiled eggs and cereals (more than adequate). Parking was plentiful and its location in town is perfect. We will certainly be returning again and it will be very soon !

We are on the second day of a four night stay, and this is one of the best small hotels we have ever visited! I decided to write a review now because I had seen some negative reviews, which were very puzzling. Our harbor view room on the third floor is large, well furnished, and immaculately clean. We love the balcony! The bed linens and towels are especially nice. The staff members are very helpful and always say hello when we walk by. The room is quiet at night, even though the hotel is full. There were ample selections at the breakfast buffet, and plenty of free parking for hotel guests.
We chose this location because we like to walk. Today we left our car in its parking space and walked all over town. Lewes is a charming town with so many good places to eat, historical buildings, and other things to see, all within easy walking distance. (We are in our seventies.) When we arrived and were going up to our room in the elevator, a couple in the elevator with us told us they had stayed in the Inn many times before, and it is the best place to stay in Lewes. We agree!

This was our first trip to Lewes. We wanted a quiet getaway for a few days for a change of scenery. Lewes and the Inn were perfect. The town is small and so much calmer than nearby beach towns. We were greeted by Carly on our arrival...she wore a mask but you could tell she was smiling the whole time! All the staff we interacted with were so friendly and thoughtful. We had a fourth floor room with a view of the canal. It was large, clean, and quiet. The days were cold and windy so we didn't spend time on the balcony but it looked so inviting. The inn is right in town and great shops, restaurants, and museums are an easy walk. There are many trails for walking and biking nearby. The inn is a cozy retreat and was a welcome change after a pandemic year!

We were traveling through Lewes via the ferry. We only needed a room for one night. Inn at Canal Sq. Has a 2 night minimum but they found us a space. The room was very well appointed, clean and had a wonderful view. The absolute high point was breakfast! We’ve NEVER had such a wonderful breakfast included with our room. Over 8 varieties of fresh fruit- berries, melons, bananas, oranges-etc., cereals, pastries, toast, bagels, and the best smoked salmon(lox). I’ll come back just for the breakfast.

I have stayed at the Inn before and each time I've enjoyed my stay. Our room faced the water, it was very clean with complimentary drinks and snacks. There are fresh flowers daily and the aroma fills the air. It is an easy walk to the town which has boutiques and great restaurants. We ate at the Heirloom and the food is excellent.

Massachusetts, United States112 contributions15 helpful votesSome breakfast questions...What is typically served? What are the hours? Thanks!
Can’t remember the hours. The breakfast is a decent assortment of continental breakfast items. Fresh fruit, little muffins/pastries, various bread etc. that can be toasted etc. Yogurt. Not a big hot buffet, but enough for us.
Some of the second and third floor rooms with balconies.
I believe it is. There is an elevator, the rooms are all accessible as is the first floor and breakfast area.
If you're planning on staying there, ask them about their amenities. I'm sure you will find them accommodating.
Enjoy
There is some parking on site and also two VERY close areas next to the Inn.
