I have stayed at this hotel many, many times in the past twenty or so years. We hadn't been in several years. Decided to stay here because of its great location to The beach. The bay is on one side and the ocean is a short two blocks away. The hotel is showing its age. When we arrived we were permitted to check in a little bit early. Our room was on the second floor but we did not really have a balcony. Instead we shared a walkway with two rooms at the end of the hotel. The outdoor furniture could use a good cleaning. The room itself was immaculate. As there is now no maid service once you have checked in, you have to get your own towels at certain times during the day. This was not a problem and actually, I think it is a pretty good arrangement. Our room was extremely quiet. The parking lot was somewhat full, meaning lots of rooms had guests, so we were expecting so noise, but honestly, it was perfectly quiet both nights of our stay. What was confusing to me was the $9.95 resort fee that is charged to your room for each night of the stay. This place is hardly what I would call a resort. There is no lobby to speak of, no coffee, no gym. There is a pool but it was "being cleaned" for the 3 days we were there. Just add ten bucks to the room charge but for heaven's sake, don't call it a resort fee.

My sons and I just stayed here while passing through Delaware for one night. I wish we stayed another night. The staff was very nice when I checked in at 12:30, I received complimentary bottles of water and a parking pass to use the amenities while waiting for the room. We decided to take a drive to the boardwalk since we were very early. The room was not ready until 4pm. While I wouldn’t consider it a resort, it is super cute right on the bay. We slept very comfortable, the room, bathroom and kitchenette were all very clean. Great location, nice pool. We enjoyed the pool, crabbing off of the pier, walking for ice cream and take out. Great bagels and coffee nearby. I also was very happy to do laundry. We were very pleased and would love to return! Attached is the view from our patio!

Unless you're lucky enough to get a room facing the bay this does not at all feel like a "resort" nor "waterfront". But after having issues with the a/c in our other hotel in Ocean City we were thrilled to have a nice cool clean room available for us during the busy July month. There is a small kitchenette too so we were able to preserve our food in the frig. There was no view at all from our corner room though we were overlooking the pool on the 3rd floor. You couldn't sit out on the private balcony though since the a/c exhaust was as hot as a dryer pumping hot air out onto the balcony. That did serve well to dry off our bathing suits though! Very friendly efficient staff and a clean comfortable room and decent location.

Pros:
Bay side rooms have a spectacular view
1st floor walks out to patio, lawn, pier
Lots of Adirondack chairs on the lawn and a couple at the end of the pier
Staff v friendly
Good size mini fridge, kitchenette
1 block from lots of restaurants
2 blocks to the beach
Good parking
Quick drive to Rehoboth boardwalk

Cons:
The AC was very loud. Rattled strongly all night and disturbed our sleep both nights.
Roof was experiencing an issue and water was pouring onto the sidewalk outside our entrance making the floor damp inside the room.
Bathroom sink did not drain quickly.
Lots of flies in the room. Got bit up.
As a “resort” we thought the kayaks and paddle boats would be included, these activities are not.
Popcorn on the floor behind the side table from a previous stay😳
Very expensive.

In the time of Covid, the room must be perfect upon arrival as hotel staff cannot come in during the stay. While the staff was very kind & empathetic, there was nothing they could do to ameliorate the situation.

My fiance and I booked a stay online a few weeks ago through the Bay Resort's website for a weekend trip less than two weeks away. We are getting married in a month nearby and we had some last minutes things we needed to do, including getting our marriage certificate. I just received a call from Jill stating that they are in fact NOT OPENED and closed during the dates we already booked and put a deposit on. When I asked how we were able to book she couldn't give me an answer.
She offered to save our deposit for our wedding date, which we have an entire house already booked and paid for. I mean the truth is I do not want to stay here if something like this can slip through the cracks.
Now that is has been weeks since we booked our stay, the other options we were considering are either fully booked or their rates have increased far past what we originally paid for the Bay Resort.
Jill is looking into other hotels for me, which is a kind gesture but I have google and I can see what the rates are and none compare to the rate we reserved weeks ago.
Its a shame and frustrating that our wedding prepping plans are now out the window - it is already tough enough to plan and pay for a wedding but this is adding so much unneeded stress and there really can be no value that can be placed on peace of mind in the weeks before a major life event and due to The Bay Resorts ineptitude that peace of mind has been severely disrupted.

This little motel is fabulous. Just wanted to get away before the holidays. Booked over the phone and arrived 3 days later. Location is great and right on the bay. Could watch sunset from our bed. This was there last weekend open until March. The room was spotless, smelled fresh and every attention to detail was met. Then you open the curtains and it is pure heaven. Our room was 108 perfect. Close to free ice....soda and snack machine. The front desk was very kind and friendly. Cannot wait to book The Bay Resort in Dewey Beach De again and again. Thanks for the memories.

They couldn't seem to pull it together to get us checked in. They sent us away 3 times after 4pm telling us our room wasn't ready yet. I had a wedding to attend....the whole reason to rent the room. The 3rd time she told me it wasn't ready and she would call me when it was. We walked out to the car and sat and looked at the whole "resort" and read reviews. The property is definitely not like the pictures. It's more like a hourly rate motel. At 5 pm I called again since I didnt get any phone calls from them. When I told her I will cancel and don't want my cc charged because they couldn't check us in she said "no" to the refund and offered a double room for a discount. Why would I want a discount on a room I did not reserve? I though it was going to ruin my whole weekend. We walked into the Hyatt Place and for the same price I was promptly checked in to a very clean hotel room.

It was just what we needed. Gorgeous view from our third floor room. (Warning no elevator). It overlooked the bay, ocean beach was a 5 minute walk. Unfortunately the surf was very rough, so only waded in the ocean and walked on the beach. Was able to swim in the pool. Small but long enough to do short laps, goes from 3-6 feet. Room was clean, bed and bedding were comfortable. Staff was friendly. As is typical in these times, rooms were cleaned on request only. (We did not ask, as did not need). Any supplies and towels were replaced as soon as requested. This is a motel style, with exterior corridors. Our room had a small stove, frig and microwave which we used for breakfast and some lunches. We got delicious take out from nearby restaurants and also from restaurants in Rehoboth. Loved sitting on the balcony eating dinner, followed by a beautiful sunset. There is no smoking in the rooms, I wish they would also prohibit it on the balconies or become a smoke free property.

We were regulars here before it was sold. Always clean, nice and professional staff. This stay was awful. Dirty room. I mean the beds were made but the sheets were dirty (had not been changed) dirty tissue and meds in the night table and old food and a soda in the fridge. Bugs in the tub. (Dead) so very disappointed. This was my happy place for 10 years. Need to find a new one. Sad. The manager was called and the room cleaned while we went out but never heard from the manager as requested. This NEVER would have happened with prior management. Sorry to say, think twice.

Our stay at the Bay Resort Hotel was very enjoyable despite the rainy weather that we had. We had a bay front room on the second floor that offered an absolutely stunning view of the bay area and the wonderful birds, fish and resident bunny. The room was nicely equipped with a small coffee maker (the all day coffee available in the lobby is really nice so you may not need to make it in the room), microwave, electric stove, refrigerator and a few plates, mugs, 2 glasses and some silverware, etc. The beds were comfy and came with 3 pillows each. The room was clean and had a fantastic balcony.
The Delmarva water sport rental right behind the hotel on the bay is not to be missed! We rented a kayak and had a fun paddle out to the far island and back. The highlight however was Janice who was running the rental and got us set up. She is one of the loveliest people you could hope to meet! Make sure to take in her garden area where you can hose off your feet on the benches surrounded by her hand-painted signs, bird/hummingbird/butterfly feeders and wonderful plantings. She is an absolute joy to talk with, especially if you enjoy wildlife and nature.
You can easily walk to the beach, restaurants, ice cream shop, live music venues, etc. and quickly drive to anything else you might want. The front desk staff is very helpful and friendly especially Eric who answered all of our questions cheerfully.
This was a great choice and I hope to return next year and see the new upgrades that are expected!
