We visited the Captain Stannard House last October to celebrate our One Year Wedding Anniversary. It was the perfect place to get away for the weekend and not have to actually travel that far from our home. The Inn is beautiful and you feel right at home walking into the living room with the fireplace, couches and jigsaw puzzle laying...

I visited the Captain Stannard House in between a couple of long business trips and it was the perfect place for a relaxing weekend getaway. The inn was quiet, breakfast was excellent and the owners and staff were incredibly nice and helpful. I look forward to getting back there in the new year.

The outside of the inn and main level are very nice and we loved the porch. Our room was a big disappointment though. Although spotlessly clean it lacked character, had funky carpet and just wasn't worth the money we'd paid. We've paid less for rather superior rooms in the past. Breakfasts were a big disappointment too and the lack of...

I truly enjoyed a breakfast I recently had at this beautiful inn. While I had not stayed overnight here, I did tour several of the rooms of friends that stayed here and they could do nothing but rave about how wonderful their stay was and how accommodating Jim and Mary and their staff were. I experienced their warm nature and...

My family rented it out June 2010 & we had a great time. It's a charming inn & each beautiful room has its own personality. The gathering rooms were great for hanging out with family - enjoyed playing pool, doing puzzles & lazing on the couch chatting. My fave part was chilling out in the huge porch in the back....

Jim and Mary (and their daughter) were friendly and provided great service. They were accomodating to schedule changes (early check in) and seemed to thoroughly enjoy interacting with guests. The food was wonderful and the jigsaw puzzles were perfect for a rainy day. Overall the property was well kept with a beautiful porch and yard. There was water and soda...

I had read carefully through reviews of the Captain Stannard House. Although it is a lovely house, with a glorious back porch, the interior looks as if it were decorated in 1990. When we arrived, there was a note on the door, giving us directions on how to find our room. The door to that room was locked, and upon...

What a wonderful place! The rooms were spotlessly clean and each one unique. The full course breakfast was delicious and gave us a great start to our day. Mary and Jim were welcoming and helpful as a great source of information.

The Captain Stannard House deserves the praise its been given, however. . . . If one suffers from allergies and/or chemical sensitivities the bed and table linens have been washed in strongly perfumed detergent which can interfere with sleep and food. My sister and I shared a room that had windows that were hermetically sealed with coats of paint so...

A nice place to stay during a getaway to the Long Island Sound! Breakfasts were okay, room could have been cleaner, but the owners were kind and provided several amenities. They also were extremely helpful in locating local fare and accommodating our late arrival. Was surprised by an additional charge due to a tax increase after I had booked the...
