We visited with our friends to celebrate my wife’s birthday and it turned out to be one of our greatest getaways. Jim & Mary, host and hostess, couldn’t have been more gracious and accommodating. We all felt at home and absolutely comfortable. Thank you.
Since moving to Utah several years ago, we always enjoy returning 'home" to the New England area to visit with family and friends. This delightful B&B was a wonderful place to end our vacation and relax for a few days. Jim and Mary were gracious hosts, the breakfasts were delicious and our room was perfect! The very thoughtful binder of information on things to do and see was very helpful and the puzzles, board games and pool table kept us entertained when we needed to slow down a bit:) Lastly, we have mountains (big ones!) in Utah but not our beloved ocean. Here it was only a block away and we could not have asked for anything more! Loved our stay at the Captain Stannard House:)
Honestly, everything was perfect at the Captain Stannard B&B. We enjoyed the game room, with the pool table and the ongoing jigsaw puzzle. My BF had a great time playing the grand piano. Mary and Jim were delightful and made sure that every detail was attended to, and we really enjoyed having a cooked breakfast every morning. Wish we were there now!
The room was pleasant, clean, and quiet. The front porch (with the night bug sounds I love so much) was a delight to sit out there for a few hours. The community gathering spaces (in two rooms) were delightful. The breakfast was pre-made, no choices, and just so-so, though my daughter thought they were very nice. The host and hostess have much experience and were very welcoming. -- I consider many of the questions below to be ridiculous: i.e., hand washing, masks, wrapped toiletries, purchasing gifts, private check-in/out service, wake-up service (who doesn't have a cell phone today with an alarm clock in it?). Just my opinion.
I've been staying here for afew years now and each visit is absolutely amazing. I come to reenergize and de-stress and I feel better immediately. I love that I can do a short walk to the beach a couple times a day, and love morning coffee ☕ and afternoon Tea outside sitting in a rocking chair on a beautiful covered porch overlooking the back lawn. The entire Inn is gorgeous and so full of charm. Mary and Jim are the perfect hosts and their culinary talents never cease to amaze. Jim can take something so simple & make it amazing. Can't wait for my next trip.
Day job is the Post Office, we've been going nonstop since Civid started, so when vacation time rolled around I needed to find myself a Fortress of Solitude for one night and I did! Beautiful B&B, lovely location, great breakfast, awesome room and a relaxing ambience made for a lovely stay. I can't recommend this Inn enough. The owners, Jim and Mary were two of the nicest people you'd ever care to meet and made this man feel right at home. Can't wait to visit again.
My husband and I planned a nice 2 night getaway staying at Captain Stannard. The cancellation policy was for 1 week in advance or full loss which is already a policy not consistent with the industry. 2 days before our departure my husband began feeling ill. I called to see our options but I wasn’t really sure I was ready to cancel. I was hoping he just had a cold and we’d be ok to go at least for one night. The hotel agreed to cancel the first night with no penalty. We are supposed to check in today but he still isn’t feeling well and we’re going to get a covid test for him. I called to cancel tonight but they wouldn’t provide any refund. I’m trying to find someone else to take the reservation for me so I’m not out $215. I think this is extremely rigid in today’s circumstance. The hotel is wiling to risk the safety of the other guests for the cost of a one night stay. I would advise no one to go there until the pandemic is over, as some people might feel forced to go even if they are sick.…
Great property and lovely hosts. The house is very comfortable, spacious, and tastefully decorated. The hosts and the staff are very helpful, friendly, and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. They take good care of the property, and show pride in a positive, helpful experience. The inn felt very clean, and the owners adhere to COVID protocols, while not making guests feel uncomfortable. My bedroom was nice sized, and common space seem large enough to easily accommodate the guests. Social distancing was not a problem. The house is located within walking distance to the beach, they provide chairs and towels for guests to use, as well as other amenities like lawn games etc, and the property is very accessible to highways and other main roads for getting around. I would love to go back and experience the inn in "non COVID times," when it would be more conducive to socializing with other guests around the property. This property could be a great option for a large friend/family gathering or even small wedding. Once you pull in the driveway, you feel as though you have stepped into another time and place. I just wish there had been more variety with the breakfasts (especially after a few days), but I will write that off to the challenges of COVID. Thank you for a nice, comfortable few days away. I loved the big porch.…
spent a week at this wonderful inn and cannot reccommend it highly enough, from Beach to shops everything is close, the rooms are clean and well maintained and look great, all staff were friendly and helpful, Mary and Jim are really nice people and hosts, Breakfast was always worth getting up for, when next over from the UK and in this region this is where i will stay.
We wanted an escape from the routine in eastern Connecticut, but without too much driving. On Long Island Sound in a charming New England community, the architecture, landscape, and salt water remind us of Maine. The property is impeccably well maintained. A short walk takes you to the sandy town beach, and a parking lot is nearby for leaving a car (for a charge). Breakfast is delicious (Jim and Mary are gourmet cooks). We have stayed at the inn four times, most recently in February 2020, and it was a wonderful vacation even in the dead of winter.
