I've stayed here on visits to the New Haven area a couple of times before, but not for several years. On this latest visit it was mostly as I remembered it. My room was spacious, clean and mostly quiet (except on New Year's Eve, of course). Staff members were pleasant and helpful. The physical layout is appealing, with a large lobby and well-maintained pool and fitness center.
However, there are signs of cost-cutting around the place. Hall carpets are badly worn, buckled in places (a tripping hazard), and really needing replacement. Hampton Inns are supposed to have on-site stores for refreshments and necessities, but there was almost nothing in stock. The included breakfast had three great waffle makers but otherwise not much choice, especially as far as the breads and pastries were concerned. Finally, during a six-night stay I got housekeeping service exactly once, at which my two bath towels were replaced with one (I did get two clean ones a couple of days later, but no additional housekeeping). My stay overall was pleasant enough, but right now this establishment seems content with doing the bare minimum.

Michelle at the front desk was super friendly and helpful! Check in was quick and to the point. Room was clean and quiet. Breakfast options were varied and breakfast times were reasonable. Location had several easy food options for grabbing dinner.

Needing a night's stay on a trip back to Maine, I stayed at the West Haven Hampton Inn which is very conveniently located off Route 95. The Inn shares its parking lot with Texas Roadhouse - which offers indoor service and take out - making it a convenient place to obtain dinner after being on the road all day. The rooms were very clean and well appropriated, and the complimentary breakfast provided ample service, choices, and food for the morning. The only complaint would be the noise in the early evening from the parking lot. I was on the side of the restaurant on the ground floor. The restaurant did a great business and many vehicles and voices could be heard in the evening. Overnight this noise was not noticeable but on a Saturday evening, it was a bit noisy. The heater/fan was able to provide enough white noise that this distraction was not a true problem; I also suspect that a room in a different part of the Inn would not have had this issue. Overall, it was a very nice stopping point on my trip north.

This hotel is filthy, horrible experience except guy at front desk nice and tried to help. First room smelled really bad, 2nd room had lots of hair in the bed 🤢 and finally 3rd room had a water in part of the carpet - looked like leaking from the corner window, it was a first floor handicap room; carpet was gross and old, dingy and if we hadn’t prepaid we wouldn’t have stayed (we thought Hilton wouldn’t ruin their reputation with a skanky hotel). I will include pics of hair found when turned down bed!! Hallways, elevator weren’t clean, hall carpets were in bad condition.

Pros: Bed was comfortable and room was clean and quiet. Exercise room is well equipped and fairly large.
Cons: Bathtub finish was peeling off in multiple places and the chrome finishes were rusted and “dripping” rust everywhere. Common areas (including fitness center) were not clean … in serious need of vacuuming/mopping and dusting/scrubbing. Breakfast was “meh” even by HI standards.

The room was clean and has a lot of space, but the noise from the interstate was extremely loud. It was basically non-stop cars and trucks all night long. The staff was very very nice and accommodating, but would not chose the location again due to the noise level at night.

I’ve struggled with this review, because the staff and the facilities are very good. The only drawback, and it’s a serious drawback, is the noise from the highway that backs up to the hotel. Well, I know there’s nothing that can be done about it, it is loud and disrupt your sleep. I would recommend requesting a room on the other side of the hotel not facing the highway. Other than that, it’s a very typical Hampton Inn. The staff were very kind and welcoming. And the facilities were fine.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn in West Haven CT for a baseball tournament this week. To begin with, they gave my room away even with the confirmation I showed them. I booked two rooms, one king and one double. We were with another family member, asked the front desk to charge one account for king bed and my account for the double. When we got to my room, I did not have a double. I went back downstairs to ask why I didn't have the right room, response was "I've been shuffling rooms around all day, what do you want from me?". Extremely rude.
I was traveling for a baseball tournament with my 14 y/o who was NOT going to sleep with me. Their response was he can sleep on the couch. Not acceptable. I was booked for Friday 5/27 and Saturday 5/28/2022. I requested another night for 5/29/2022. I was told they were booked. I then went and booked another night with Hampton Inn Milford, CT. Late Saturday night we asked again if they had a room for Sunday. They said no. The director of the tournament asked them to at least look. They looked and said oh yes. Â
I then called Hampton Inn Milford and asked if I could cancel. I was placed on hold which brought me to 12:08 am, once they came back, they said I was too late. After a lot of discussion, I was told I could cancel and they would not charge a fee, as I was staying with another Hilton Hotel.
Today I find they never cancelled the reservation and charged me for two rooms. They over-drafted my account and my mortgage bounced.
When I called back to the Milford location, I was told sorry, you were too late. After becoming extremely frustrated they stated they would reimburse the two nights, but it would take 24-48 hours. In the meantime, I have $140 in fees. Â
So to recap, I never got the room I booked. The front desk was extremely rude the entire time. The second hotel never cancelled by reservation and I am out $156 x 2 and over draft fees of $35 x 4, totaling $452. Â
I will never, ever stay at another Hilton

I am a Hilton Honors Diamond member, and as such, I enjoy staying at different properties within Hilton's portfolio. I decided to try this Hampton Inn in West Haven, as it was relatively close to the Metro North station in West Haven.
Upon arrival and with Digital Key, I went right to my room. No need to immediately stop at the front desk, although I did so later to obtain my spring water. Having Texas Roadhouse next door was a plus... easy to order a steak and then pick it up on foot when ready.
Room was ample size for my needs, no shortage of space for my belongings. Bathroom was decent size too with enough counter space for toiletries.
Sleep quality was good; was not bothered by highway noise. Enjoyed quick breakfast in the morning.

This property was rated as one of the best hotels in West Haven. I hope that isn't true. My first room had an overpowering odor of stale locker room. One of the beds smelled worse than the other. I almost never complain but I couldn't imagine sleeping with that odor. The front desk was really nice about it and offered a room on the second floor.
That one was much better. There was still a musty smell but it was much fainter. There were crumbs on the carpet. The desk chair was bad enough that I put a towel over it before sitting. The room door didn't fit well so you could probably see into the room from the hall if you tried. The door latched but barely. The L-shaped metal piece that prevents the door from being forced open was missing. I didn't really have anything worth stealing so I decided not to worry about it. The body wash was missing from the shower. There is a mount for it but the entire bottle was missing.
It wasn't all bad. The gym was in good shape and there were plenty of towels but I won't be back.
