The lodge is an old ancestral Hmong house built in the 1930’s under the French domination over the Tonkin. After restoration, we propose 4 private bedrooms and a dormitory which can accomodate up to 8 guests.

Charming small homestay in Meo Vac. Walking distance to main street and Sunday market. Very helpful young man on desk. Good food. Even French wine to buy. Outside toilet and shower but very clean and always available as only 4 rooms in this UN listed building. Recommended.

This fortified farmhouse is in a great location on the outskirts of Meo Vac. Very handy for the market. Courtyard / foyer/ bar area is very welcoming. Rooms are fine but walls are 2m tall bamboo screens and offer little privacy. Bathroom is downstairs so best to get a ground floor room if you're not good with steep steps, with no hand rail,in the dark. Evening meal was fine without being outstanding. Breakfast included but not taken as we were up very early for the market. By homestay standards this was good but if you think you're coming to an hotel you'll be disappointed.

I love the style of this homestay. It offers you local experience but good accommodation. Private room and dorm are available. Food is delicious and more than enough. I stayed here 1 night but I would recommend to stay 2 or more if you have time. Highly recommend.

Addit - previous review commented on noise level - apparently there was a wedding being celebrated in the village that continued for couple of days during our stay .. the last night spent there was very quiet .. was cooler during our stay .. no heating in main areas and bedrooms cold .. ate meals with coats on .. probably ok in warmer months

If you are doing the loop through Meo Vac, this is a really good option. A nice family run place for the night. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with traditional bare walls. The bathrooms are shared, but plenty of hot water and clean and well maintained. The food was very good and the family who run the place were very friendly, but with limited English. The place has the feel of a homestay. The only downside of our stay were the other guests. Unfortunately, there were just the 2 of us and then a large group of around 14, who were very noisy and inconsiderate. We cannot blame the hotel for this. Without that group, the place would have been perfect.

We stayed here for one night as a part of a prearranged tour so we didn‘t choose this place by our own. The house looks charming and cute from the outside. The patio and eating area are cute too at night with the lights, the whole atmosphere feels familial. Our room was on the upper floor (steep stairs!) on the right and looked quite nice at first sight but the wall behind the bed was quite ugly and when we went to bed we found a very big (5cm long!) cockroach crawling on the wall!! We tried to catch it but it was too fast. A little bit later it appeared again (or another one?) on the top of the wall where we couldn’t reach it so there was no sleep for us the whole night as you could also hear small animals walking around :( It got even more horrible when a grain of maize fell onto our bed from the balk of the ceiling. Don‘t even want to know what animals were up there... We told everything to our guide who talked to the staff and they said they would have had mosquito nets but didn‘t think about giving them to us. They also say they clean the house from beetles and everything 2 or 3 times a week but we don‘t really know how this works as the whole house is kind of open and there are gaps between the walls and balks... The other thing that wasn‘t really cool was the fact that our room was above the kitchen so our room was very smoky when they were cooking and you could smell the smoke in the room. The staff was really nice and friendly though but they didn‘t really apologize for anything even though they knew :( We would not stay here again!!

We had the private room which was really clean and very comfortable. The lights were relatively dim but we didnt really mind considering that this place was really nice compares to the past few authentic homestays we had been staying at. Common toilets were clean. We really enjoyed our stay there. With that said, it is not really an authentic homestay - it is more of a boutique hotel that was renovated to look rustic/ restored. You won't get the experience of living, eating and interacting with a local family here

This is a lovely old wooden building of the H'mong type. It's in a tranquil location and you can easily walk into the town or out through the local community towards the countryside. You will be able to hear everything thing that everyone else is doing as the walls and floors are only wooden boards. Toilets and bathroom rare shared but looked after. This place isn't a family home. It's run by a very young staff who speak little English, but they are cheerful and helpful. It is not a home stay.

PLUSES: Authentic, quiet adobe building at the edge of town Lovely courtyard where a decent breakfast is served al fresco Very nice adobe "living room" with a working fireplace where dinner is served Very nice bathrooms and showers on the ground floor (sleeping areas are upstairs) MINUSES: Dinner absolutely terrible (unappetizing, foul smelling food) Lack of privacy: None of the bedrooms are private, even the "private" ones, simply because the walls do not go all the way to the cathedral ceiling! (almost like fancy cubicles). After you climb a very steep and narrow staircase upstairs, you find on your right the first "private" bedroom (which we had booked), and on your left the entrance to a pleasant enough dorm, You enter the dorm and you see the doors to the other 2 "private" bedrooms! As said earlier, the bedrooms walls do not reach the ceiling; hence there is little privacy and all noises are heard! As for our bedroom, the most private of the not so private rooms ;-) we must admit it was pretty. But... the spring mattress had seen better days and was very uncomfortable. Linens felt humid and were spotted. As there are no attached baths nor toilets upstairs (we were aware of that when we booked the room), management has graciously placed a "pisspot" under the bed! ( Indeed, going to the toilet downstairs in the middle of the night is really not advisable as the staircase is very steep and has no guardrail...) All in all, not a very comfortable stay, but this place could be utterly charming if it solved its issues!

We have been to Ha Giang a few times but have not been in Meo Vac. This time we looking for a tranquil and private place to stay and find this place on the internet. We have booked 08 single beds (maximum) in Dorm room in November 2017, everything it's ok with fantastic common area outside. But if your group have only 1 - 4 person and must share with other group, it's very inconvenience because Dorm' space is small and tight. Best way you should rent whole beds for private and comfortable. Located at the end of small alley. H'Mong's ancient house was recovered by mr Thai. Its architecture is even more beautiful than our imagination. It has small grass in middle of yard with nice stone walls. Very tranquil and peaceful place. It has 2 bath-rooms with heater machine inside. Very very very excellent for winter. I even prefer sleep there than my room.
