The house is historic and unique, very cozy. The town is also beautiful! When we got there Ted welcomed us and offered to take our bags. He walked us around and showed us everything. The house was clean and well put together, cozy and had neat old fashioned decorations and furniture. Our room had everything we needed and was comfortable. We hung out at night and did some fun ghost hunting (didn’t get lucky but heard some weird sounds and felt strange presences) the breakfast was delicious and it was nice to get to meet the other folks staying the night. Carol the owner was so nice and told us some interesting stories. What a great experience, we will return one day! Thank you Ted and Carol!
Stayed here for my one year anniversary this weekend and it was perfect! Ted and Carol are soo kind and cook a lovely fresh breakfast every morning. Very warm and inviting place to stay. Was within a half hour of a a ton of wineries, shops, and restaurants. We had a few ghost experiences which was awesome. Would stay again!
We stayed at captain grants bed and breakfast for 2 nights in May before memorial day weekend. Upon arriving Ted, one of the owners came out to greet us, have us sign the first book, and he gave us a tour. It's a very nice authentic older home that was very nice. They provided free wine, sherry in the rooms, use of a game room, and multiple decks to relax on. Breakfast at 9 am was always very good. The food was tasty, and always plenty of it as well as some good coffee to get you ready for your day. Ted and Carol always join you and the other guests for breakfast. They are so nice, down to earth and easy to strike up a conversation with. The rooms were cozy and you felt right at home. Much more personable than a hotel room! They always gave us suggestions on where to go, what to see, and place where the local go to eat. This was a wonderful relaxing stay. If we are ever looking to get away or are in the area we would definitely go back and stay there!…
My boyfriend and i decided to take a vacation somewhere different, we decided on Connecticut as both of us always wanted to travel here and when we were looking up bed and breakfasts, we came across Captain Grants and we really had a good feeling about this place, honestly knew nothing about this place at first. Looking online at the different rooms, we both choose the Elizabeth room, which was such a great room! Each room has its own characteristics. This one particularly is at the end of the hallway and there is a door to go out to the patio and steps to go up and down. Bathroom was roomy and bed was comfy. Has fireplace made the room very cozy. Ted and Carol are some of the most friendly people and we really felt at home. Talking to them they told us so much information about the area and also the history of this place. Breakfast was amazing, best breakfast we ever had! They really make sure their guests do not leave hungry. Coffee and teas before breakfast and more with breakfast and also juices. Eggs to French toast to bacon to homemade jams. Oh my gosh, it was all so good!! They also put cookies in the cookie jar as well as dessert on the table all day/night. Wine, beer and soda in the fridge as well. My boyfriend and i were fortunate we came in on a Thursday night and we were their only guest so we had the whole house to ourselves! We explored each room and took a walk around the premises, as there is a old cemetery out back dated back to the 1600s as well as a cemetery across the street as they say “ Captain Grants body is buried. There is a also a antique pool table in the game room as well as a poker table and games for everyone to enjoy! So, as for paranormal goes lol Well, a few experiences, things went missing and later were found ( phone, lighter, and makeup brush) bathroom light was turned off by itself, keys were accidentally left in the door and the were jiggled. We took a few pics and two pictures had some strange white smoke. No unexplained noises or sightings but The Collette room was Erie to both of us and the Adelaide room was the second more Erie to us. We went back to the old cemetery around 11 pm the next night and had such an overwhelming feeling upon us we could not enter. We very much enjoyed our stay at Captain Grants and we would love to take another trip back up here. Thank you Ted and Carol for your hospitality!! Looking forward to our next trip up as well as our homemade jams we purchased, now when we come back up, i just might bring you a tray of my homemade lasagna !! Maybe that coconut pie i was telling you about as well lol :) Dawn and Jim Williamstown NJ …
FIrst time staying there and booked it because it was close to Foxwoods! If you like B&Bs you will love this place, very rustic and homey! Lots of history and some friendly spirits they say....had some creaking doors and some orbs in pictures but nothing crazy. The husband and wife hosts are super sweet and friendly and the breakfast was wonderful. Beautifully set table eggs, blueberry pancakes, sausage, juices and great stories from other guests. Old 1900 pool table to play on and old style charm. We will be back!”
