I just got back from my trip to this inn. It was wonderful. My friend was dealing with the one year anniversary of his accident and this visit really helped to distract him. While falling asleep, another guest knocked on our door and asked if we were ghost hunting. I said we weren't planning to but then my friend and I went downstairs and began taking some polaroids and soon joined the other couple in exploring the inn and the cemetery on the property. We did go at night but Ted, one of the owners, recommends the day time to avoid wild animals. Carol put out chocolate cake and free beer, soda, etc was provided. The breakfast the next day was wonderful. We got the Collette room which had a twin bed and a queen. There are journals in the rooms detailing previous guest's stays that are worth a read. They also provided sherry which, while we didn't partake, the other folks staying there enjoyed. I would love to stay here again in future. I do recommend bug spray if traveling out to the cemetery. Carol has a book she sells to anyone interested and also signed it for my friend, which really made him happy. Even if you aren't interested in the paranormal, it is still worth a visit. Ted recommended we go to Mystic for dinner or one of the casinos. We went to Mystic and visited a beach and then went for our meal. We wanted to explore the town but our plans didn't let us but I hope to do that at a later date. Please give them business, they are so wonderful! :)

My husband & I booked a room here for our 2 year anniversary and we had a wonderful time. Ted greeted us in the parking area and gave us the tour. Both he & Carol were absolutely adorable; we loved spending time with them at breakfast & getting to know them more. The food was delicious, and every morning we were greeted with a different beautiful china setting for our meal. Every evening Carol left treats for the guests - either brownies or homemade cake. They provided complimentary beer, wine & seltzer. My hubby & I played pool with other guests in the Game Room, wandered the old cemetary on the grounds, as well as across the street where we found the tombstones for whom the Inn was named - Capt. William Grant and his wife Mercy Adelaide Grant. We stayed in the Marie room since everything else was booked, it was quaint & cozy. Next time we plan on booking 1 of the bigger rooms on the 2nd floor which is a bit more spacious. We didn't experience any paranormal activity (maybe next time!), we felt very comfortable as soon as we stepped into this historic home. The Inn is filled with antiques as decorations and seating which gave it a more authentic charm. We loved our visit and can't wait to come back soon! :)

We had a lovely time at the inn. As lovers of history and historical homes, we felt very fortunate to walk the halls and grounds of such a charming place.

We stayed 4 nights and as time went on, it felt more like visiting with family than renting from an establishment. The owners and staff were very thoughtful about making sure we were having a good stay. From remembering how we like our coffee, to recommending places to visit, and taking an interest in our days’ adventures, we felt truly welcome and comfortable at Captain Grant’s. Special callout to Nelly, she is amazing and an absolute gem!

The furniture and decor was very cozy. The bed was comfy, and the shower was hot with perfect pressure, just how we like it. Conversations were engaging, breakfasts were tasty, and we enjoyed sips of the complimentary sherry at the conclusion of every evening.

I would offer only one minor detail to future guests for their own awareness. The website describes that complimentary desserts are offered each day. Prior to our visit, I read many reviews online raving about Carol’s homemade baked goods, and we were really looking forward to sampling her treats! We were offered Keebler-type packaged cookies for our stay. Not quite what we were expecting, but we did get to try her strawberry-rhubarb compote at breakfast and received a complimentary dessert at a nearby restaurant because we were guests of the inn, which left our cravings satisfied.

We’re looking forward to visiting the inn again!!

Pros: owners and staff friendly and not overbearing, good location when visiting mystic or casinos as its a sort drive to all. breakfast decent, house has nice grounds and central space, plus game room. Cool and novel with its haunted history. Sherry and previous guest books in rooms is nice touch.

Cons: too many.. rooms are far from clean and comfy. If you don't like bugs, stay elsewhere. Spiderwebs (many, Many! old ones in the lovely wood beams as well along walls n corners makes it clear they do not thoroughly clean often at all). Not to mention the several live spiders (at least 5) in the bathroom alone. The room was very dark which made me leery of what else I prob wasn't seeing. Look, I live surounded by woods, I'm used to all kinds of creepy crawlies but I wanted a relaxing break from them! A historic BnB shouldn't feel like camping. A lake would've been more refreshing to since the shower pressure was a trickle which made the slowest tub drain ever even worse. By the end of one shower the tub was half filled. Yuck! It took over half an hour to drain and I had to manually rinse the soap 5x to clean it so my partner could take one! we didn't read reviews extensively prior to staying (we had power outages and chose this for its decent rating) but of course became curious during our stay. apparently this is not the first review of clogged tubs! We didn't even bother showering the morning we left. Bit wait, there's more...as a frequent traveler I Always check mattress n sheets. Well, the good news I didn't find bed bugs...bad news, just dead bugs. And sheets and mattress cover had stains. Upon request,, sheets were changed, cover was not. We could tell because of the stains! And like another reviewer wrote, owners hold a friendly card game every Saturday. Didnt affect us but it could be loud for some rooms or those looking for a quieter quaint stay.

Overall, just a shame with such great potential if only there was more detailed attention. After all, the bed and bath are pretty much the key things you want clean and working right??

Reconsider booking this historic B & B. The entire facility needs a major cleaning and face-lift including interior painting and new washable linens. We could hear constant coughing from a helper who was setting up the breakfast tables - certainly a concern in the Covid era.

I thot it was overpriced for what you get. It seems a bit neglected & there was dust & webs in our room. The bathroom was very out of date. They offered us “fresh baked” snack after we arrived which seemed nice at first, but upon looking they were all picked over/almost empty. It’s very casual & not necessarily a professionally curated experience. It felt more like visiting someone’s semi-neglected extra house/room than a well executed B&B stay. I expected a bit more based on the price & previous reviews 🤷‍♀️

Loved staying at Captain Grant's! Ted & Carol were wonderful hosts and made us feel very much at home. The breakfasts were delicious. Room was tidied up each day and fresh towels were delivered daily. So many extra touches here that you don't find at
other B&Bs like dessert available for snacking any time of the day or night, free beer, wine & sherry if you choose to take advantage.
The staff was always working about cleaning the inn. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The grounds were extremely neat and well cared for.
I can't wait to visit again.

My wife and I wanted a getaway to celebrate our 45th anniversary and to relax after the holidays. Carole and Ted were such gracious hosts and made our stay wonderful. We enjoyed our delicious homemade breakfast with them and our conversation lasting two hours. The inn with its historic ambiance was great as was the billiard room Dinner at Bella Fiores, which they suggested, was fantastic, very high class and included a free desert with the card from Captain Grants. We chose the chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream, sinfully good! We recommend checking it out and will visit again in the fall. As far as experiencing any paranormal activity we're still wondering what caused my cellphone to light up at 2:28 am with no call or message at that time and the fleeting cool breeze I felt across my face seconds later.

We booked this trip to get away after spending one heck of a year in pandemic mode. The hosts were wonderful. Ted greeted us after we drove up and showed us around the inn himself. He was kind and conscientious, asking questions about our needs and letting us know he was available to help. The home is spotless and beautifully maintained. Decor is period and absolutely wonderful. Our accommodations were excellent. The breakfasts were outstanding and Carol and Ted ate with us. It was as if we were sitting with a favorite relative. They were awesome and the experience was beyond belief. So glad I came. The area is beautiful and it made it even more special to come home and rest and relax after a day out in this slice of Heaven.

Unfortunately we were ushered to a smaller building on the property that sits directly on a main thoroughfare between the two casinos. Traffic was non-stop and extremely noisy and disruptive of any relaxing getaway we might have enjoyed.

We were misled by the owners into believing that the room would have been part of the main house, as nowhere on the website does it indicate that there is another building with rooms.

Beer? Only Bud Light. Wine? In boxes.

Roku TV, bring your own batteries.

White noise machine they give you to drown out the traffic that is blowing right by your room, didn’t have a volume high enough.

And you really need to have a propensity for the odor of musty.

We can't please everyone all of the time. Unfortunately if we are not told about a guests discomfort, we can't correct the problem. To this guest; I am sorry that you had such a bad time. I also hope that you have found quarters more to your liking. In the future, please state directly to your hosts if there is a problem. Most hosts are willing to work with you to make things better. In defense of our Inn I wish to say the following. There is a carafe of sherry in every room, the wine, beer and soda are complimentary. Dessert is out all day. The Avery home is on our website and has been from the beginning of our business. Carol

I hear this place is haunted. Is that true? Melia
Answer from Voyage37002474496
Province of Udine, Italy
I stayed in this hotel for two weeks, once for work. I will never go back! I woke up one morning to a man standing at the foot of my bed. My roommate and I could feel something wasn't right in our room, and we often had to sleep with the lights on. I asked several hotel staff about it, and they agree they could feel it as well. One night my roommate and I stayed up late talking about the hauntings, and he started mocking the spirit. We laugh about it now, but at the time, we were terrified. He got quiet in the middle of our conversation and looked asleep. He starting moaning as if he was in pain but I thought he was just sleeping, so I left him alone. His moaning grew louder, so I turned over to look at him. He was lying on his stomach facing me when all of a sudden, his left leg bent back backward towards the ceiling nearly 90 degrees, paused, and came back down with a tremendous amount of force. I yelled his name several times before he could finally move, shooting out of bed and screaming, “that sh*t was holding me down.” all the moaning he said was him yelling at me to get him up. There is more to my story but yes, I'd say it's haunted. I don't drink or smoke by the way so I wasn't under the influence.
