We had a great time with Mara and her staff. She helped us with all our bookings for the game parks.
Our unit was so cosy and always spotless. We enjoyed it that the kids had their own shower.
We spend so much time next to the pool and in the evenings we mostly enjoyed a BBQ.
The Guest House is so close to the beach that we went every morning jogging along this beautifull coastline.
We stayed there for 3 weeks in April and it was such a luxury to be able to give our washing to Christina and came home and it was done.
Thanks Mara and Christina and also the gardener Samson for always being so friendly.

We can´t express in words how sad we were to leave. After a stressfull traveling we had the feeling that we came home. Mara and her staff spoiled us in every way. After 2 weeks of travelling we had a lot of washing which were done for us the day we arrived. We enjoyed having a BBQ whenever we wanted. We enjoyed our swim in the sparkling pool for hours. The boys could go surfing just down the road. Hope we will be able to return one day again.

We arrived in Port Elizabeth during the Worldcup to see one of the German matches. The At Sta-Plus offered affordable rates (although increased compared to normal rates), secure parking space and a clean and surprisingly nice room.
The owner provided us with a ton of material dealing with the worldcup, but could not give any personal advice to us, for example how to get to the stadion. We had to figure out on our own that the bus was leaving literally in front of her house.
We only talked in total to her about 1 minute. Very un-african, she was not interested in our plans during our stay and also did not give us any recommendation what to do. We felt that she did not want to talk to us and was even quite shortspoken.
This was quite a difference to the warm welcome and honest interest we experienced everywhere else.

Arriving at At Sta-Plus was a treat after a 18 hour trip from Europe. Although we arrived late Mara made us feel at home straight away. Friends did reccommend it to us so we knew that this Guest House belongs to a 3 times Olympic athlete, Cornelia Bürki from Switzerland. As we went down for the Ironman this was special to us. We could run and cycle from the doorstep and the pool is big enough for water jogging. Mara organized for us a day safari to addo and Schotia which was great.
We are hoping to go back to Port Elizabeth next year and special to At sta-Plus Guest House.

Had a lovely stay back in April while travelling around in SA and felt it was really good value for money. We were made to feel very welcome by Mara.
Lovely, spotlessly clean room with doors opening onto the pool and stunning, spacious bathroom. Very handy kitchenette.I would certainly return and also recommend to friends.Secure parking is also a big plus.

We'll start with the good - the room was clean and spacious. However, the sheets were horrible and bobbly and the towels were a horrible brown and so crusty you could use them to exfoliate your skin. When we arrived there were two dogs jumping up and barking around our feet. (there was also a large dog turd on the lawn) The owner could see I was very uncomfortable with them, but just just reassured me they did bite. Soon after we arrived music was played very loudly in the house so that we could not hear our TV in the room.
They also did not get my booking in the diary initially, so when I contacted to confirm our reservation (as I did with all our bookings), they had to add us in.
I had also enquired prior to my stay about breakfast but was told it was self catering. Fine, apart from the fact you even struggled to make this meal with what they provided. There was not even a sharp knife to cut up fruit or a tin opener to open jam for our toast.
There was no sheet informing you about the guesthouse/what to do if you had problems. There were also no leaflets about what to do in the local area. The owner also made herself very inaccessible to speak to.
When I dared to complain at the end of our stay, I spoke to the owner on the phone. She did not listen to any of my complaint and put the phone down on me when I suggested that I was not happy to pay the full amount as they had not delivered on what they promised. Anyway, we decided it wasn't worth the grief of spoiling the rest of our holiday, so decided to put it behind us and pay. A couple of days later however I was bombarded by e-mails and texts accusing me of not paying R64. (which we most certainly DID pay). She has apparently contacted the police about this and wants me charged.
We stayed in 7 fantastic places in South Africa (see my other reviews), its just a shame this place had to spoil it for us.

Response from Casamento, Owner at At Sta-Plus B&B Guest House
Responded Mar 2, 2010
I normally don't respond to negative reviews as critics can be good as we strive to become better.. This review is very unfair though and our employees were insulted and wrongly accused as other guests could confirm. This is very unfair. Our dear domestic worker Christina passed away unexpected 2 weeks after this incident due to a stroke. In honour of her and the positive and honoust person she's been. Please read our other reviews.

We were staying at At Sta-Plus again in February. Our room were renovated again although it was'nt necessary to do so. Now the 2 bedroom unit is even nice. Granite tops and new bathroom basin/vanity etc. the staff were great as always and our stay unforgettable. thanks Mara and Christina. Will be back next year.

Pool dirty, safe broken, no air conditioning, room stuffy (13 tog duvet a little warm!!) and no credit card facility available.
Shower room nicely furnished and fridge in room. Room clean.
Extras promised did not materialise (chocolates and wine for birthday gift and laundry service not available on the days we stayed).
Information booklet in room was a list of 'do not do's' concerning the property (eg, keep quiet) rather than suggested outings/helpful hints for the area. The property is situated near to the beach but too far to walk (safely or comfortably) from the boardwalk eating establishments at night. We felt safer walking further in Cape Town and the service provided at Guest House TwentyTwo in Cape Town was miles away from the very limited and at times rude service received from the owner of Sta-Plus.
