I cannot say enough about this wonderful inn and it's staff. The breakfast was absolutely delightful everyday and I originally planned to stay two nights but booked a third because it was so restful. The countryside is lovely with lots of hiking around, and the buildings themselves feel beautiful and historic. The staff is attentive and helpful and knowledgeable about the area. I can't quite put into words what is so special about this place but it is special.

In the late 1980s, while driving back home from college with my girlfriend, we broke down in the middle of the night - in winter - not far from this inn. This predated cellphones so my girlfriend and I walked back down the road to this place; there being really nothing else around. After a while of knocking, this lady came to the door and we explained our predicament. She said we could call our parents, but that it made the most sense to just stay the night and she'd help us get gasoline in the morning. She set us up with a very nice room with a working fireplace. In the morning, she made us a great breakfast and took us into town to grab gas. Never charged us a penny nor accepted any offering. Ever since then, I've wanted to come back here and stay as a paying customer - just a way to thank the owners. Unfortunately, those owners sold and there are new owners. However, I'm quite convinced were the scene to play out today, it would go much the same. We had a lovely stay. Even though we only live about a half hour away, I decided to take my wife (not the same girl from college) for a quick getaway - AND to check off this bucket list item. We booked a single overnight in the cottage. The inn was proactive about making sure they knew when we'd be arriving to make sure everything was set. The fireplace is wonderful. There's plenty of room to cozy up to it with both chairs and throw pillows. There's a whirlpool tub that we did not make use of (this time). We have it on good authority that it takes a long time to fill so plan accordingly. (There's a great little guest book in the room with this tidbit). The king-size bed was very comfortable. There's a mini-fridge in there, basic cable TV, and WiFi. Convenient, but go to this inn to UNplug. We did have a problem with the heat in the cottage but Lucas was extremely attentive and corrected the issue immediately. The next day, he was also our breakfast chef who's as handy with kitchen appliances as he is with furnaces. The breakfast was very good. Friends of ours go away fairly regularly but they don't necessarily travel far; they just do little escapes like this. They've inspired us. We think it's a good idea - it's nice to just get away for a day or two even if it's just around the corner. We will return here to try some of the other rooms and certainly to take advantage of the pool in the summer. If you're looking to meander and spend some quiet time with your spouse, the NW corner of the state is great and you cannot go wrong hanging your hat at the Blackberry River Inn for a few nights.

Great breakfast service, as noted - by very polite staff. Beautiful spaces, with books/games and no public TVs. There was just confusion with room assignment - we booked a specific room based on desire for a jetted tub and a loveseat/couch. At check-in were told that building is not heated and were "upgraded" to a room in same building without tub/jets/loveseat - not ideal in our case.

Dear HardToPlease911, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your stay. We are so glad that you enjoyed the breakfast and public spaces. We are very sorry about the change in room. It sounds like you may have booked to stay in the carriage house, and instead were provided a room in the Main House. Usually we would see this as an upgrade, but I can definitely understand the inconvenience because the room did not have the features you were expecting and looking forward to. We hope to have the opportunity to host you again, and to give you the experience you desire! Thank you for staying with us. - The Team at BRI

Wonderfully quaint, quiet and comfortable. My husband and stayed in the cottage. Very private. The fireplace was preped and ready to be lit. Extra firewood was readily provided by our host Lucas. Breakfast was bountiful and extremely fresh, accompanied by pleasant banter from our host. Plan to return in the summer to use the outdoor pool.

Lovely historical Inn - in a great town. We stayed there while attending an event at the Infinity Theater in Norfolk. Highly recommend both. Lucas, the proprietor, was very helpful and kind. It was one of the best breakfasts I ever had at a B&B - and served in a lovely dining room! Thank you. SUE B

Great hospitality. Our room was very clean. The breakfast was amazing! We loved Lucas who runs the Inn. We stayed in the cottage house our room had an attached deck. That was a game changer for us. We we’re able to walk out and enjoy the beautiful weather and view. The only thing I would change is to have cable in the bedrooms not just a DVD player. They did have a huge variety of DVD’s to choose from. We will definitely go back it was an awesome experience.

We have been coming here since 1994 and are repeat guests because every aspect of our stays is outstanding. The setting is so beautiful! The hills rolling down to the river across the street offer lovely views and the inn, itself, is a lovely, historic building on the National Register. Every detail of the inn is tasteful and elegant with original woodwork and space arrangement spacious and intact. This inn is classic: not faceless 2023 modern or chain hotel drab. Light flows into the main house through multiple windows and the breakfast room is like a conservatory with flowering plants lining the windowsills. Excellence in every respect here: comfort, aesthetic, food. Only the best ingredients are used in the delicious breakfasts. The housekeeping goes the extra mile to ensure cleanliness and comfort. Service is outstanding. Our attentive and experienced innkeeper, Lucas, sees that everything is as good as it gets! This recent visit exceeded our expectations. The Inn only gets better with age. We love it!

We were pampered for 3 days and nights. Comfortable and pleasant room. Delicious breakfasts - many options, nicely served. The dining room is sun filled and charming, very inviting. We even had a nearby family visit in the living rom for a mini birthday gathering. Staff were very accomodating. There is a working farm across the RT 44. Ocaissional farm smells. Our room was in the main house facing the rear so we only noticed it when driving out.

Little gem in the middle of the mountains, halfway between New York City and Boston. Old colonial House (18th century) transformed in a Bed and Breakfast with a little British Flavor. The people are incredible, the room are extremely clean and what I liked the most were the relaxing jazzy/classical mucis played all day as well as the incredible breakfast (included) in a charming canopy. Free tea and delicious homemade cookies all day is a plus. :)
