#1 of 3 hotels in New Milford
GreenLeaders Bronze level
This quaint sixteen room Inn is located at the North end of the New Milford Green, the longest town Green in New England. Your visit with us includes our hearty continental breakfast served every glorious morning in our Victorian dining room. Enjoy a variety of yogurts, cereals, jams, cheeses, fruits, breads, muffins, juices, teas and coffee. And don't pass up the opportunity to try our signature dishes: fluffy egg bakes, bread puddings, French toast bakes, homemade breads and of course, Bill's (Not So) Secret Waffles which are talked about around the globe. This lovely corner of the Litchfield Hills offers something for everyone: fine dining; great antiquing; a wealth of trails for hiking, running, and cycling; lakes and rivers for boating, beaching, rowing and fishing; slopes for skiing and snowboarding; parks and playgrounds; local farms with seasonal fruits for the picking; year round festivals that showcase art, dance, and music; and so much more! And for those who don't want to stray too far from the Inn, downtown New Milford is just a short walk away. Main Street, Bank Street and Railroad Street are lined with shops and offer a wealth of restaurants - Italian, German, Mexican, Chinese, and Irish, just to name a few. Enjoy a self-guided tour of the town's antique homes, buildings, and churches; take in a movie at the Bank St. Theater; delight in the many summer concerts on the Green or simply take a stroll around the Canterbury School campus where both President John F. Kennedy and Paris Hilton were once students.

We were so glad to have gotten a room for 4 (Annex #3 with king/bunk beds suite) at last minute for a busy holiday weekend. Liz was great, very friendly and helpful. Room felt very clean (in Covid times) with bottled water in small frig. Great water pressure, mattress, linens and pillows. We appreciated that entry to suite was from outside (again, Covid times) and check in was contactless as well as check out. You can hear the cars passing on the street, but it did not bother any of us. We were not able to have breakfast, but also glad for the well outfitted coffee/tea/hot chocolate station available in the Main house. We went out hiking early at Kent Falls and Lovers Leap State Park 10-20minutes drive, and enjoyed the fantastic New Milford Farm Market on Saturday, just a quick walk onto the town green. The Main house looks lovely, well decorated, not cluttered. Enjoyed the banana walnut bread put out in the afternoon. It would definitely be great for enjoying Fall foliage, but you better book early! We would come back in a heartbeat!

I did a little local adventuring this weekend to see friends and get to the Elephants Trunk Flea for the early entry. It was so conveniently located near the New Milford Green! The breakfasts cooked by Liz are delish. They make Gluten and Dairy free accommodations if you ask! Super hospitable. I was in the Horowitz room. Perfect for one or two. Clean. Quaint. The bed was super comfy. Perfect for a weekend stay.

We spend a lovely two days in the Monroe Suite, The room and all of the main areas were spotless and beautifully updated and restored. We appreciated having a very adequate, plated breakfast every morning and water and coffee available at all times. We especially enjoyed feeling like we were a part of the charming downtown area - everything was within easy walking distance. We appreciated being well taken care of in an unobtrusive, unpretentious manner here at the Homestead. We will definitely be back!

The Inn appears to be very well maintained and clean. Check-in mid-afternoon was just an envelope and a key. There is self-serve Keurig coffee and some complimentary cold drinks downstairs. Our breakfast was made and served well and all dietary limitations were upheld. There was no housekeeping service for our 2 night stay (covid). When we called to request fresh towels and trash removal, the Innkeepers phone was a message machine. Several hours later we got a call back saying nobody was available and just take some towels from the closet. When we mentioned that we had to leave early, there was no offer to serve a simple early breakfast or take away. We walked to Joannas diner in the morning for a good breakfast. As you can tell, hospitality seemed AWOL.
