We had a wonderful small wedding at the Roger Sherman Inn. Chris and the team were incredibly patient and kind as our wedding came together. He and the team made us feel comfortable before and during our stay. The whole team was friendly and warm, my young nieces even convinced a few of our waiters to dance with us. The... More

I very much liked staying at this haunt for one night. The drinks and breakfast were good especially the berries. The girl at the door was great and it was quite a surreal place. I will definitely return and with a bigger party to show them the beauty of the inn and it's surroundings.

They suggested a private room for our 10..it was perfect...warm, festive, attentive seamless service.Bravo! Great value, too. An old fave which is modernizing itself! Four star food to match! We're adding in p our "go-to" spots in the New Canaan area.

What a charming, beautiful and friendly place to stay! And it comes at a reasonable price with breakfast. The large porch and shaded garden are a delightful amenity. You can take a morning walk at the nearby New Canaan Nature Center. The Visitor Center for the Philip Johnson Glass House is in the nearby village.

We stayed at the Roger Sherman Inn this past weekend for a two night stay in the 2 bedroom suite. The charm of this old inn is evident and in abundance from the minute you pull up in the car park. The suite was just perfect for us as a family and ensured that we also had our own space... More

Okay, I'll always be biased toward an older place with some promise of charm. But this place offers charm and fails in all the details. The website is an antique that defaults to a reservation for that day whenever you make a change. Why is that important? Only because you agree before making an online reservation that you have to... My wife and I just spent six nights in room 17 in the carriage house behind the main inn. The room was clean, temperature controls worked well, beds reasonably comfortable and very nice towels (highlight). With one exception the staff was cordial. However, at $230 a night, there was much left to be desired. Poor room lighting, old tube tv... More

I grew up in New Canaan and now live out of state. I always stop in town when I am traveling to or from my home. I started eating at the RS a few years ago and now stay here when ever I am in town. I agree with other reviewers that the Carriage house is quieter and a room... More

Who knew that on Friday and Saturday evenings, the Riger Sherman bar turns into an Americana speakeasy where Yankee CT meets South Jersey Rock ~ my friend and I were returning from a party and it was early around 9:30 pm or so looking to hear some music and get a drink - we found a few folks at the... The Inn is about the only place to stay in New Canaan and they have a no cancellation policy so even if you try to cancel well in advance of your stay you will be charged. We stayed there in July and paid $235 for an outdated room with a kind bed (actually two twins on a king platform) and... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This historical landmark in New Canaan, CT has been established as an Inn since 1925; the Inn was named after Roger Sherman whose niece, Martha Sherman, lived in the house from 1783 until 1806. Roger Sherman, a lawyer and delegate from Connecticut to the Continental Congress, had the distinction of being the only person to sign all four of these historical American documents: The Association, &c (1774), Declaration of Independence (1776), Articles of Confederation (1777), & The Constitution of the United States. In 2008, award-winning restaurateurs Nes & Joseph Jaffre became the owners of this elegant establishment and have transformed both the inside and the outside of the Inn. Recent renovations in 2012/2013 have given this historical landmark a modern, romantic feel while preserving the antique nature of the building. Come join us whether it's for a weekend getaway, cocktails at the bar, dining on our wrap around patio, an anniversary dinner, or a private party from 8 people to 180 people; our venue is perfect for all occasions! ... more   less
