This experience was like watching one of those scary movies ( WRONG TURN ) except it’s located off the main road in mystic... I actually loved the historical setting of the motel except it’s not in live able condition in the winter. I tried contacting the hotel by landline, but not accessible. After finally finding a contact number on line to have someone come repair the heat ( it’s 16 degrees outside that night and felt like below zero in the room ) I was inform by the front desk personnel that no one was on the property to do the repairs. Then the receptionist who’s French or something that could barely speak English tells me to come to the front desk to switch rooms into the main hotel. Once I arrive to the front desk, she’s now trying to tell me that my stay in the first room will have to be closed out and there was going to be a new charge for the room. The hotel representative at this moment was acting as if she really couldn’t understand English and I couldn’t understand her reasoning behind this as well. I agreed to purchase this room because I was freezing and it was like midnight. I found that it wasn’t a need to argue with someone that wasn’t understanding what your arguing about. In my opinion, this is the way this hotel conducts business. They use the mansion as a trap to get you in, and then go for the kill. Not only did they charge me for the two rooms but they also overcharged me. They ended up trying to charge me 180.00 for a 52.00 rest. Once I contacted Priceline about the situation, apparently they made them charge me the correct amount for the room an remove the extra cost for the other room. But the hotel never released the hold they had for 100 until my bank return it a week later. This isn’t a good place to do business, I’ll never visit them again

Saw complaints about it being part of a hotel chain, but it was it's own separate building. Real working fireplace, four-post bed, clean and affordable. Yes, the floors creaked, but it's a historic building. Would stay again.

I love preserving history. It appears the Marriott was forced to retain the historic mansion as a condition of building their huge complex on the property. It also appears they are doing the minimum maintenance in hopes it will collapse so they would be free to clear it out and build more hotel buildings. This could have been a very cute and cozy historic stay as a b&b, but was not as advertised. Plumbing didn't work, though the Marriott staff was quick to fix it. No coffee in room. Bed comfortable. Felt like I had to wear shoes. Old timber floors cool but dirt and debris visible in the cracks and floor sagging. Don't stay here if you have allergies to mildew or if you require good walking surfaces. Electrical outlets broken. Paint slopped all over Windows. Drywall patched badly and peeling. 70's jetted tub had buttons missing. Mold on walls. I wanted a romantic historic experience but was sad to find out what the Marriott did with the place. This should be lovingly restored and preserved but the Marriott obviously doesn't care.

We tripped over this place while looking for somewhere to go for a weekend. We were a little apprehensive when we discovered it was owned and run by Marriott. However, when we checked in and went into the building, it was very period And very beautiful. The room was lovely and large. Well decorated. We were on the first floor and the Sarah room. We were concerned that it might be noisy as it was right next to the common room and also right at front by the roadway. It was very quiet. The fireplace and the room was beautiful. There was coffee available first thing in the morning which was great. All in all, a wonderful place to go and a great hidden gem.

Don't let the picture fool you. This is not a stand alone Bed and Breakfast. Yes, they have beds and breakfast BUT it is part of the Marriott Residence Inn. The Whitehall Mansion was contains 3 or 4 rooms on the Marriott property. The building is old with sloped and creaking wood floors. It has been update with sprinkler and fire alarm. You go over to the Marriott for breakfast, standard motel fare.
