Chose to stay here on a recent trip to the Goodspeed Opera House. The stay was busy in the restaurant so it took a bit to check in. The rooms were pretty basic. The breakfast the following morning was excellent. A 3 for the room but a 4/5 on the breakfast so a low 4 overall ...
It isn't fancy (at least our room wasn't) and some things are a bit worn, but this inn makes you feel welcome, starting with the lovely, calm woman at the front desk with big glasses and a bigger smile who greets travelers like old friends. The public rooms are charming and the staff members we met were pleasant and accommodating, from the manager down to the waiters. We left with smiles on our faces.
Based on pictures and most reviews, we expected a lovely inn with excellent food. We were not in any way disappointed. Our room in the Comstock house was neat, clean and comfortable. Each of the courses for our dinner was excellent. Breakfast (included) offered many choices and each that we had was delicious. But what made our stay really memorable was the staff: Giana, Lois, Joseph and Christa. Surely there are many more whom we did not meet (especially the kitchen staff) who contributed to our enjoyment. Often you will find a lovely hotel/inn that checks all the boxes but leaves you a little cold. Not here! Each of the staff was warm, personable and down to earth. We remember each most fondly and thank them for making us feel so welcome and for sharing many laughs with us.…
On first arrival, the property seemed clean and welcoming. After discovering that the coffee/tea area in our room was missing coffee/creamers/sugars etc, I placed a call to the front desk and had to follow up later on our way out to dinner. I was given a couple of sachets of coffee and a jug of cream which I then had to take back to our room in our car as our room was detached from the main property. Very inconvenient. I was told if I liked my coffee other than black "I'm screwed", as small containers of creamers/ sugars are not provided. So why have a coffee machine in the room??? Not a great start to our stay! The sheets had a strong odor of bleach, I believe the outside door to our section of the property was unlocked all night (there were a few other bedrooms in the building), the floorboards in the bedroom above us were a nightmare and I heard the people moving about all through the night, going back and forth to the bathroom (and very easily heard the toilet flushing and any other water running also), there was a lot of peeling wallpaper in the bathroom, one of the lightbulbs was out, stains on the bedroom carpet, and just an overall "tired" feeling to the whole interior and exterior. Highly disappointing that we paid $400 for one night... expected much higher quality.…
Unbelievably warm & welcoming! I was moving house, my car brakes had failed as I was exiting 95 to rte 9, and i found the hotel I had booked in Old Saybrook completely disgusting. I went online, booked a room at The Copper Beech, and arrived 10 minutes later stressed out and exhausted. The front desk quickly checked me in to a wonderful room, where I was able to decompress, arrange for service on my car, enjoy wonderful food and drink, and completely relax. A weary traveler couldn’t ask for anything more!
Everything about our 3 night stay was wonderful. The food was out of this world for both dinner and breakfast, the latter of which was included! The staff were extraordinarily friendly and helpful -- we were hungry when we arrived mid afternoon, and Lily brought us a cheese tray. And our room was lovely and well appointed. We are definitely coming back.
Room was terrible and no service to help. We stayed there for a. special night, it was ruined because of the lack of basic services that were not fixed upon request. They did nothing to rectify it or even bother reaching out to us during or after the stay. Very very disappointed. We will never go back.
Everything we were hoping for in a getaway! We stayed in the comstock house the room was beautiful and very quiet. We had dinner in the oak room steak and scallop dinners were excellent.Heading back to New Jersey feeling relaxed and refreshed. Can’t wait to do it again. Thank you
Overpriced place worse than a cheap chain hotel. We choose this place to have a better than average experience. Big mistake. Yesterday my wife barely could take a bath because the bathtub faucet was leaking everywhere. Now I am not able take a shower because there is not hot water. They told me to wait 15 minutes because there is not hot water because everybody is filling up the tubs right now. I have been waiting more than one and a half hours. I am tired and I am going to bed without my shower. The rooms heaters are half working and they provide a small space heater that is not enough to heat up the room. The food at their restaurant is mediocre at best. Yesterday the pork chop tasted old and reheated.
The Copper Beech Inn has exceeded our expectations in so many ways it’s difficult to know where to begin. Upon arrival there were hors d’oeuvres and Champagne in the lobby, so lovely! The holiday decorations were gorgeous! Bright and sparkly, perfect for the occasion. Our room was very large and nicely appointed. A high end but comfortable feel. So inviting. The bathroom was obviously recently redone. It was so spacious, plenty of room for two of us to get fluffed up for our evening. Our dinner was “top shelf!” Multiple courses of mouth watering deliciousness . My husband is still talking about the duck, the best he’s ever had, he says. My filet was perfectly prepared and fork tender. Luckily, we live close by. We will be returning for dinner often. I really can’t say enough about the staff. Everyone is so very friendly and knowledgeable about everything from the Inn to how dinner was prepared. They really know how to make you feel special at The Copper Beech Inn. No detail was over looked. I am looking forward to our next weekend getaway.…
