This hotel is declining as we speak. the place is dirty overpriced and the attitude of management is so what. We came back because they said to try we did and my 19 year old son even said it was the dirtiest place he has ever stayed.

It is difficult to describe this hotel. The people at the front desk were very nice but gave contradictory information. The hotel was recently renovated but the keys to our room didn’t work very well. The one window in our room overlooked a hallway. We had to go down the hallway to see what the weather was. No natural light. The room was generally quiet though the walls were thin and people talked in the hallway. Parking is difficult because of a lot shared with a restaurant. The free breakfasts were not great. Not much selection. Probably the most weird thing is that there was a group of seemingly homeless men who sat outside the hotel near the door to the breakfast area and wandered in for food and all day coffee. I am glad they got food but it was just strange. The breakfast area had a “B” sanitation rating from the state. Problem in Hamden is that this is the only hotel. The Hamden-New Haven area is hotel poor even with three large universities in the area (Yale, Southern Ct. State and Quinnipiac.) No competition.

It took a long time to get checked in to my room. The hotel and property were clean, and the usual continental breakfast. I did not receive room service after my first-night stay which was disappointing. I left at 11:10 AM for the day. Should have had housekeeping come in after.

Made reservations on ChoiceHotels.com, prepaid room a month in advance. The reservation was for this past Memorial Day weekend for one night, we where in town for a basketball tournament. I knew we where going to be a late check-in, 10:30pm so I had called earlier in the day to confirm and I was told everything was fine. Arrived at 10:30 and one person was checking in ahead of us, there where two employees at the desk.. I wait. As I'm waiting another two people show up after us to also check in. Joshua looks past me and asks the mother and daughter behind me to come to desk.I"m like "excuse me I was hear first" even the mother was like she was here first". As I step up to counter I'm noticing that its taking quite a bit of time and he's not asking for any license etc., I ask "is there a problem?", "no m'am just checking to see if my room is cleaned". I say "at 10:30 at night shouldn't my room be ready at this time". As I'm waiting the mother/daughter behind me goes to the next staff person on the left of me and I notice how quickly they where able to check in.. I'm still waiting.. When the other guests are checked in, the other front desk clerk, not Joshua, goes out to see if my room is ready.. He comes back and says we've overbooked and WE HAVE NO ROOMS AVAILABLE. He kept on repeating "we've overbooked and you didn't have a room number." not happy at this point and the complacency was the worst. Thankfully I found a better hotel and she was wonderful to deal with on the phone and it was only 3 exits away. No apology, no help trying to find me another COMPARABLE hotel. oh yeah a flea bag hotel that I HAD to call ,that was his solution. The guy with glasses should never be at the front desk, was so complacent, didn't care attitude, at least Joshua was nice and felt bad. He was the one I spoke to on the phone earlier in the day to confirm my late arrival. What is the purpose of making a reservation if you're going to give it away and leave people stranded? You went against your own guarantee policy on your website. I did everything I was supposed to do prepaid, called in advance to say I was checking in later and you still left me with nothing. The most important thing to me was the way your employee handled the whole situation. He did not go above and beyond to find a place for me and my son at 11pm at night, being 3 hours from home. Customer Service was an"F". and not brand right for Choice Hotels. I hope you look at your front facing employees and find someone better than what I experienced. I also called your customer support line and they chalked it up as "INCONVENIENT", not sure that is the right word for this but I will definitely let everyone I know to never stay in this hotel in Hamden, CT

This was my first time ever going to a hotel. It’s quiet, clean, and very convenient for its location too! A big plus is the free breakfast they offer in the morning which is definitely a good way to start in the morning. The room I was in was very nice, it was very roomy for one person too. The only negative I can think of was the bathroom door. Even though I was by myself, I had trouble locking in the door after it was shut. Other than that, it’s hard to actually find any negatives. Definitely will come back here and enjoyed my stay!
