Detailed Reviews
I'm writing this review for those of you who are concerned about the bad reviews of this hotel. Everyone in my party thought this hotel was perfectly fine. A week or so before my stay I had to alter my reservation, and did so over the phone with a person who was very helpful and professional, and also asked if I wanted the two rooms to be next to each other (they were). The online check-in process was seamless - nothing unexpected, no unexpected charges whatsoever. The room was very clean and quite comfortable. I didn't hear any noise from either the road or the restaurant. I had a good night's sleep. My sister was staying in the room next door, and neither of us could hear the other one's TV or anything. This hotel was very convenient for a family gathering, and I would absolutely stay there again. It is not fancy, but it is absolutely fine. One thing I would agree with is the heater is extremely loud.

The room was nice, easy check in and updated. A couple complaints. I personally don’t like decorative pillows on the bed since they likely don’t wash them between every stay. Second there was an overwhelming scent of carpet fresh or room spray. Lastly there were signs in the room saying the shower steam tends to set off the fire alarm and sure enough a little before 8am the fire alarm went off and forced us out a little earlier than we had planned. I’m not sure if it was someone’s shower but we didn’t stay to find out. Overall not a bad stay and the Barcelona restaurant was great for a late night cocktail and tapas.

This hotel is overrated. We stayed 2 nights and most likely will not return. The room was the smallest I have ever seen. It was lacking basic amenities like a mini fridge, microwave, desk and comfortable chair. The HVAC unit was very noisy and the door was drafty. The free breakfast is a joke. Other than fruit, a few hard boiled eggs and cold pastries, there was little else offered. Location may be convenient however there is a lot of street noise.

What a dirty, run down place. I just want to warn people who like clean, safe, peaceful motel rooms- don’t stay here. My husband and I came to visit my granddaughter who lives 10 mins away so I thought it would be a convenient stay. We walked into the room, the tiny room was filled with a king size bed which left us little to walk and a tiny little pleather chair in the corner.
Upon entering the room it smelled liked it had been sprayed with a deodorizer. Which actually reeked of pot I guess from neighbors. The carpets are worn and dirty. And splatters if toothpaste on the bathroom wall. The do not disturb hanger was dirty and looks like it had been in the parking lot. Eww, safe was broken so we took our valuables with us. The heater/fan was loud and cold when it first comes on and because of the small rooms you are forced to sleep next to it. Too cold not to have a heater on. So we tried to block the fan with a pillow block. Durning the night we were kept up by our neighbors partying and screaming. We left as soon as we could 8:30am and they were still going at it. Air brakes on truck and noise from the highway and the mere fact that it is hard to find a parking spot when the restaurant is open. Well I have just never had a worse experience.
I want my money back, it was that bad. But all I am going to get is , we are sorry and hope you give us a second try. I would like it if you reach out to me and make it right. I did talk with someone on the phone but there was not any thing done about the loud patrons next door. By the way a luxury king you would think it would have a microwave or refrigerator. That’s my bad. Claiming to be a luxury hotel is their bad!

As parents of a SHU student, we decided to give this motel a try. It was close to the university, looked like it had a nice vibe, and to spite the $50 extra incidentals charge (which baffles me, after seeing very few incidentals at all during my stay) the rate was fair.
Pros: Clean, comfortable bed, fairly easy check-in.
Cons: Loud street traffic all night, loud heater/ac unit (had to turn it off to sleep=no heat/November, noise outside room until late (patrons from bar), no chair or place to sit, and charged a deposit that exceeded the cost of our stay and as of a day after departure has not been credited. Oh, and our maid knocked on the door at 8:30 am. Yikes!
We will not return. We typically stay at local major hotel chains and will return to those on our next stay in the area. It may cost a few extra dollars but it now seems worth it.

We're sorry to hear that you weren't satisfied with your stay. Please know we always aim to provide the best experience possible to all of our guests. Our incidental policy is in fact a standard practice amongst almost all hotels. It is simply an authorization, not a payment, that is released upon check-out if no additional fees are added to your stay (i.e. cleaning fees, damage fees, etc.). We recommend contacting your bank directly if the authorization has yet to be released after your check-out date, as the timing of the release is dependent on each individual bank. We thank you for your feedback and hope you give us a second chance the next time you are in the Fairfield area.

We traveled to Fairfield to attend two events at Sacred Heart University. The proximity to the university was what caused us to book at the Hi Ho. I found the check in process quite easy, despite a small glitch which was easily resolved with a quick call to the manager (who answered the call promptly and immediately answered my questions). As someone with hip issues, I find climbing stairs difficult. The first night of the stay I did have to stay on the second level, but as quickly as he could the manager was able to find me a room on the first floor for the second night of our stay - which was most appreciated,
We found the room to be very neat and clean. The room was chilly at night, but when we turned on the heat there was a "weird" smell, so rather than keep the heat running we just bundled up before hitting the beds. The adjoining room had very loud visitors, which perhaps because the hotel is older, there is not a lot of sound muffling insulation.
My one complaint is that in both rooms, the remotes for the tvs had batteries in the remote controls that were almost dead and ultimately died to the point that we had to turn off the tvs, because we could no longer control the volume or change the channels. Perhaps housekeeping should check the remotes daily.
As far as proximity to the highways and routes in the area, the location is perfect. Restaurants and shopping, as well as, gas stations are easy to find. As mentioned previously we were able to get to Sacred Heart University very quickly (and we did not even have to get onto 15).

Hotel was a great value for the quality but my motel room on the hotels front side faced a rock quarry and the jackhammering started at 7:30 am every morning except thanksgiving day. I recommend a room in the back which may be less noisy. As a single woman I would have felt safer with a 24 hour person on site at night. At night there is no lobby person and like a motel, the rooms doors faced the walkway. I had no security issues though during my 4 night stay. However, the rooms themselves are excellent with nice towels and huge bathroom and nice bedding. Very high quality at a low price per night. Daily maid service.

Not only did I have to find someone to complete my reservation since when I arrived my online confirmation wasn’t recognized and the office was closed with a broken touch screen kiosk that didn’t help, but the entire back of the place has kitchen staff smoking and talking all night from the attached restaurant. That ended at 11:30. The vent in the bathroom didn’t work. Yuck! The volume in the remote control was broken. The room smelled like strong cleaning fluid, but didn’t feel clean since I could see dirt in the room. The manager “on call” didn’t really seem to believe or care about my complaints. I will never return. The “renovations” they brag about were clearly never completed, as the whole place looks run down when they aren’t showing you old pictures on the internet. There’s plenty of name brand places that have corporate offices you can call when treated like garbage, which is why they don’t treat you like this place did. Avoid this place. There is no customer service and no way to vent the cleaning fluid and cigarette smell. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

Sorry to hear your experience did not meet your expectations. We have purposely not placed anyone at the front desk because the property is direct-to-room, which allows us to eliminate the hassle of waiting in lines to check-in or out. We have a 24/7 call line if you have any questions or concerns, as there are still staff members on the property. Unfortunately, we are unable to control the foot traffic near Barcelona Restaurant. However, they are a very popular tapas restaurant and we certainly recommend you check them out the next time you are in the area as they offer astonishing and award-winning cuisine!!

This hotel, was unfortunately, a bit of a let down. The pictures on the website make the hotel seem trendy and modern. They label it as a hi-tech hotel due to the nature of not needing to check in with a physical person. However, the actual rooms were quite lackluster and it's clear that the hotel is already in need of another update. The toilet and shower both looked worn and stained. The soap near the sink was discolored as well despite it being in a package, my guess is that they've had the inventory for a long time. Other than a very small, impractical stool, the room had no place to sit other than the bed. The espresso machine in our room did not work and instead spit out a very thick liquid that looked nothing like espresso (thankfully there's a Starbucks nearby).
All of that is less than desirable, but the WORST part of our room was the busted air conditioning. It's clear the fan belt needs to replaced in it, which made the sound nearly unbearable. Despite it being warm, we decided to sleep with the AC off due to the sound. Seeing other reviews makes it clear to me that the AC units absolutely need to be fixed in all of the rooms. If you're a light sleeper, I do not recommend choosing this hotel. You will no doubt be woken up by the AC or the traffic outside.
I will say, I really loved the fact that the hotel uses solar power. I think, with some updating to the very fixable problems I mentioned earlier, this hotel could really market itself as a leader in hospitality that uses renewable energy. However, some things definitely need to be changed first!

Booked two rooms for my family. Both rooms had heat/air conditioning fans which were very noisy/rattling which was a bummer. Couldn’t switch rooms as they were full. Had to blow dry hair in bedroom as outlet in bathroom didn’t work. Noisy outside until 11 then quieted down. My kids in the second room got a x101 course as they could hear the couple next door having a good time. I guess they need to learn sometime... breakfast adequate - nothing special. Easy on and off highway for visiting Fairfield u.
