I wish I had seen these reviews before booking 2 nonrefundable rooms. The manager couldn't get one of the rooms open. The second room still had the lights and TV on as well as a heavy smell of marijuana smoke. I did not stay. I packed my tired family of 8 back in the van and drove all night to get back to our safe clean home. I would have taken pictures, but I wanted out of there ASAP! The previously posted pictures are very accurate. Weeds and trees growing in the parking lot. Graffiti in the empty pool. The manager, with his horribly unprofessional wrinkled clothes, spoke almost no recognizable English, and had no apologies for the condition of our rooms. Please don't support this place.

Do not try and stay here this place isn't even legally open. They haven't paid their taxes and bills in years. The building is suppose to be condemned by the county. This building is not safe to stay in at all.

We booked this, but after arrival and seeing this place, we did NOT stay. When owners don't care about outside, inside is probably worse. Should've read reviews before booking on hotels.com. Now trying to get a refund. Not that easy, glad we took photos. Stayed at the Anchor instead for less money and it was clean!

This motel is operated by the same company that runs the Best QWesternRambler on the other side of town, which makesme think a patron should take a very close look at both beforemaking a reservation,.

Our experience started with the desk clerk from the Rambler explaining that the only rooms available in town were at the Spanish Peaks Inn.He did notmentionthat thetwo were related,so it was surprising to leatn that both the Sands and the Rio Cucharas Inn actually had rooms. When we arrived, we were told that there was anissue with the Cable TV. We learned later that the problem was that they had not paid the bill and there was no cable whatsoever on the property.

We registered for our room and pulled the car around. There were no outside lights which made me a bit uncomfortable about my car. The insie lighting was very dim as well, butnot so dim that we didnotnotice the 3 inch lond dead insect in one bed, not the 1 inch green cube of rat poison INSIDE the covers of the second bed. The manager offered to change rooms and we were sent to a room with no light, no TV and no WiFi. In this room, the HVAC did not work. So we went to the third room, only to find that there was no hot water to the sink or tub.

After an hour of waiting, we finally got a room with hot water, cold air, and very faint internet. As it was now late, we just acccepted the room. As was the case with a previous post, the light of day shown on dozens, if not hundreds, of dead bugs. The refrigerator did not work. The plan for ice is that the owner / manager would run down the road to his day job at Taco Belll (where his wife is a sandwich maker and he is a busboy) and get a big bag of ice.

Run as far away from this management group as you can. There are other places to stay in the area. All but the Rambler and the Spanish Peaks Inn are run by friendly folks who clearly make an effort to give a good experience. The managment at Spanish Peaks in is clearly and incontrovertibly interested in one thing - taking your money and moving on to the next victim

There's a reason there are no photos on the web. The place already looks like it's closed. The signs at the road are broken and there are more weeds than asphalt in the parking lot. We were in the town and looking online for a motel. We booked quickly online without checking reviews because the proce seemed good and Expedia said 'hurry, only 1 room left and 2 others are looking at it'. We drove up to the motel 5 minutes later and there was no way we were going to stay there. There was not a single other car and the place must have 40+ rooms. The restaurant attached looks like it's been out of business for years, there were mattresses outside against the side of the building. We called Expedia right away to request and were told it was nonrefundable. Expedia said they would call the owner who refused to refund our money. We were out $75 dollars. Beware and read reviews ahead of booking. Don;t get suckered like we did.

Worst hotel I've stayed in in 40+ years. All of the family members laying on the couches in the stanky lobby should get up and pull weeds out in the lot, clean the rooms, spray for bugs, spiders & cockroaches, and the owner should stop yelling at customers when they voice these issues. Nothing but rehearsed excuses.

Bedding badly stained, carpet stained with burn marks, tabletops sticky.

The TV only has a couple of channels, and should be avoided if you have epilepsy, as all channels flicker.

Property should be condemned.

The owner knows that there are no other options for people in the area.

Take my word, you would be safer speeding down a highway full of deer and elk trying to find another place than staying here.

Formerly Knights Inn, this property is now derelict and poorly maintained with trash all around. The former outdoor swimming pool is filled with trash and a trace of scum on the bottom, but not locked for safety. My king room was furnished with 2 hand towels, 1 thin larger towel marked "Pool," 0 wash cloths, 0 facial tissues, 0 spare toilet paper rolls, 0 drinking glasses (though there was a dirty ice bucket), and no baseboards. The carpet had not been vacuumed before my check-in, and the drawer of the nightstand, which had previously been used as an ashtray (in a non-smoking room) had not been emptied. The hosts, who spoke no English beyond "A room?" had no means to print a detailed receipt, only the tape that was supposed to print out of the hand-held credit card machine--which was jammed. The bed was clean and comfortable, but I do not recommend staying here.

I had to spend an extra night in Walseburg and to my dismay everything in town was booked. I made the trek out to the Knights Inn Spanish Peak Motel. The office was hot and it took the clerk forever to check in the lady a head of us. They informed us that dispite having cable advertised on their sign that they didn't have any tv service at the moment because it went out and the company told them it would take a week to get out there to fix it. They did have free WiFi and I had my IPad so it was a small issue.

They showed us the room and I didn't really look closely at it (I wish I had) it looked relatively clean and the beds had duvet covers (flat sheets around blankets really) which is a plus to me because you know they never wash comforters at other places.

I got back to my room that night and upon using the restroom for the first time noticed it looked like the sink hadn't been cleaned in a long time. There was a lot of residue and grime.

I plugged in my IPad and went to sleep (I need to have background noise in hotels to sleep) only to find half way through the night when it died and I woke up that the outlet it was plugged into only works when the overhead light for the room is turned on. After that I had a hard time falling back asleep because they do not have black out curtains and whatever light that is on above the windows is so bright it looks like daylight coming in from the curtain.

I woke up the next morning and once the sun lit up the room I could see just how nasty the carpet was and it made me wish I hadn't walked barefoot on it all night. The icing on the filthy cake was when I went to go turn off the air conditioner and under the window found 20 - 35 dead flies and bugs between the bed and the wall under the window.

I noticed bites all over my leg today and I am really hoping that it was from mosquitoes and not bed bugs.

Run away from this place (and the rambler as they own that too and if they run it like this place it's probably just as nasty). I stayed at The Sands in town the night before and while it smelled to high heavens of perfumed cleaning products at least you knew it was clean.
