I stayed here for a night back in July while passing through Walsenburg for some work. The building is an older one, but it's reasonably well maintained. The room met my expectation -- nothing fancy, but clean and functional. The owner and staff were friendly and very helpful ... breakfast had a bit of a late start, but they didn't... More

Needed a room for the night for myself and 3 kids and saw their vacancy sign so pulled in. There were no other hotels with vacancies in the area so was hopeful to find a decent room. They said that they had no "clean" rooms but would clean one for us. It being late and no other options I paid... More

The single most gross, disgusting, unkept, unclean, scary & dangerously filthy place any of us have ever seen! No exaggeration whatsoever. Read the other reviews (I wish we had!) Anything negative is spot on. I didn't want to touch anything in this hotel. Everything must be original, including the filthy sheets and blankets. I put on long pants, a long... More

First of all let me just say we did not stay here. My family and I just pulled up and ended up finding a place to stay elsewhere. Reason we left was upon pulling up there were quite a few strange people loitering around the place inside and out, no doubt there was some strange activities happening there. I did... More

The room we stayed in was disgusting! There were dead bugs along the edges of the walls, no deadbolt lock on the door and the light just above our door outside was broken. When we walked under the broken light to go in, bats flew out! It was late and we were tired so we stayed the night, but got... More

This place is absolutely filthy! There was feces on the wall, carpets are old and filthy with stains everywhere and old fingernail clippings on the floor. Sheets were full of hair and comforter and pillow had stains all over. Heater worked for a while and then it would trip the breaker. Had a freezing cold room all night and the... More

We were desperate. Otherwise, we would have kept driving another hour or two. We passed through two small towns where the restaurants were shuttered. Those towns must have been hit hard by the economy. We came to this third town, found a place, but it was only open for lunch and we just missed it. My mom spoke to a... More

This was our third time staying at the Rio Cucharas. It is very quiet, and we prefer the second floor rooms. Love the view of the Spanish Peaks. We like it, because it is close to La Veta, Zapata Falls, The Great Sand Dunes, Hooper Hot Springs, etc. We didn't partake of the Continetal Breakfast. I was hoping for a... More

Grossest motel ever! Look at the rooms before you pay! Sketchy people running the joint, dirty rooms, dogs in the lobby. Stained sheets and mattresses, nasty floor and no locks on doors! Just avoid it all together! I'd sleep in my car before staying there!
