Just spent two nights at Vail on a "company paid" weekend. At check-in the hotel asked for my credit card for "incidentals". After checking out I now find that since Friday I have had a hold on my personal card for almost $700 for the "company-paid" room! I called the hotel for a resolution and they said they can't do anything to remove the hold and that I shouldn't worry because the hold will be removed in "four or five days". No sense of wanting to please the guest and no concern that I am short about $700 on my credit card for the last three days and for at least the next four days. STAY AWAY!

We stay 5 days in the villa, in this wonderful lodge! The location is priceless and the staff couldn’t be nicer!! They are there to make your stay perfect! Another wonderful thing is that you are just a few feet from gondola one! So if your plans are ski this is a great location.

By way of background, I have been staying at The Lodges at Vail for more than 25 years now. You simply can't beat the location which, I suppose, is the primary reason I keep coming back. That said, over the past few years this property has been going steadily down hill in terms of the overall service and the quality of rooms. Last year we came for a week during the summer, but they messed up our reservation, which caused us to move from room to room 3 different times in 5 days. Not exactly an enjoyable way to spend your vacation. And each and every condo we stayed was in a state of partial disrepair -- we would have to call in a maintenance person to fix things that were broken. The excuse we heard was that the condo owners don't ask to have things fixed in their condos because they don't want to pay for it. Hmmm. What an odd way to incentivize people to stay there. This year, we arrived early (around 11:00 a.m.) and had a reservation for two "hotel" rooms (rather than condos). As we have done in the past, we said we would appreciate it if they could make an effort to clean at least one of the rooms so we could check-in to one of our rooms early. The individuals working the front desk must have been trained to say the same thing over and over again -- "we guarantee check-in at 4 p.m." I think I was told that at least 3 times during my initial conversation and probably 4 or 5 more times during the day. With no call coming earlier, I showed back up at 4 p.m. to check in to our 2 rooms and was told that one of my rooms was not yet ready. So much for "we guarantee check-in at 4 p.m." We ended up waiting until 4:30 to check into our 2nd room. No apologies. And nothing from the staff beyond a statement that they were very busy that day. After getting settled into our rooms we noticed that they had left each of our rooms with about one-quarter of a roll of toilet paper, nearly empty boxes of Kleenex, one tiny bar of soap, and a bed that appeared to have grass on it from who knows where. Forget about getting someone to bring those accoutrements to your room. You have to go down and patiently wait for them to hand you these things. We also asked for a roll-away bed, which never got delivered when promised so we ended up asking q 2nd time and waiting another hour for it to show up. Lastly, we have stayed in a lot of different rooms over the years at the Lodges -- two to three bedroom condos and hotel rooms near the Elway's side of the property. This time we stayed in hotel rooms that overlooked the main street and the entrance to the property. To put in mildly, these rooms were awful. They were about 80% of the size of the hotel rooms on the Elway's side of the property and were worse than the Fairfield Inns I have stayed at along the highway on road trips. One of the rooms had a balcony, which was pretty much only accessible by crawling across one of the beds. All in all, I would discourage anyone from staying here, at least until all of this COVID stuff passes us by. They are using that as a reason to provide zero or poor service. The one bright spot at the Lodges are the guys who work the bell desk. They are superb and always have been.

Room Tip: Your best bet is to rent a condo if you decide to stay here. One that looks over the main village.

We just got back from spending the night here and this is my first trip advisor review to give you an idea of how important this hotel needs to understand our experience. Our neighbors spent the night here just 2 weeks ago and had a great experience After being on lock down for months it was an easy decision to make a reservation. It’s also my daughters birthday weekend so we we really looking forward to it. I’m a frequent traveler about 50 room nights/year so I’m familiar w checkin processes, upgrades and what a good service standard should look like at a given price point. I understand that we’re living in a different time and still, I’m compelled to review. We arrived a few hours early and were told that the room wasn’t ready and they asked for my number and said they’d call when it was. We went for a walk and grabbed lunch. The location is amazing. We asked for a premium room (as per the room suggestions here on TA and the gal looked at me like i had 10 heads. Was she new? Still being trained? Her response was confusing. It was like she had no idea what i was talking about. I said you have old rooms and newer rooms yes? We’d like a newer room. This request was met with a variety of answers none of which was either a yes or no. We were called 3 hours later and told we could check in at which point i asked again about the newer rooms. Again, no yes or no. I even said that we would pay for a nicer room and that it was my daughters birthday weekend and still, blank stares and looking at the screen but no yes or no and she sort of mentioned that we could upgrade to a suite but then just stopped talking telling me that we’d like the room that they had for us. Yes. This happened. The room was decent, not new. We were excited to be somewhere other than Denver so we got ready to go to the pool which was amazing. Not a ton of people in there - it was probably my favorite part. This morning while we were all in bed about 8:45am the maid knocked on the door and opened it faster than one of us could move. She was literally right in the threshold before she noticed we were in the room and said she would come back later. Wanted to take the kids to the pool again so called the front desk and asked for a late check out - sorry no. Not even an hour. We needed to leave by 11 which is standard but what is also standard is a late check out. I asked my husband to go to the front desk and give them my FF number for Southwest as they are a partner hotel and I’m eligible for points for my stay. They had no idea what to do. He explained it and they just had no idea what to do. We wanted to stay in Vail another night and thought we’d ask them at the front desk about staying another night and getting a proper upgrade that we would pay for and he was told they would check and then wow. Booked solid. It was 10:30am. They didn’t offer to call us in case someone cancelled, they didn’t offer to reach out to another hotel to see about availability, they did nothing. Nothing extra. The only outwardly kind person at the hotel was the guy taking care of the plants. Again I’ve travelled extensively and for the first trip out of dodge during this pandemic the Lodge at Vail missed the mark.

We had a very nice stay here. Service can't be beat, from our arrival at the door to our departure, everyone provided most friendly, knowledgeable, excellent service. With a shout out to Hannah, concierge gave me a lot of help with restaurant reservations (make them early !). Our primary consideration for choosing this property was for location, ski in/out, for closest access to the gondola as well as the village area. This was definitely the right decision. Excellent ! Easy walk to restaurants, everything. We had a two-bedroom condo which was spacious, comfortable. Everything worked. The kitchen had been recently remodeled, new appliances. We made good use of the kitchen, brought groceries. (Note there is no cheap food in Vail. The closest store is miles down the interstate. Be ready.) Beds were comfy. Bathrooms in excellent condition. All furniture wasn't brand new, but it was all good. Maid service was exceptional (cleared the dishwasher !!). Pleasant balcony. Overall, property and its people served us very well. It was what we needed, and we had a very nice stay here.

Room Tip: Second floor, facing village promenade had a bit of service noise in the am. Not great concern.
