Run - don't walk away from this place. I was traveling solo and generally not much scares or turns me away. So I went in and the dude said he had to "call his cleaning lady" to find out what rooms were "ready". There was only a couple cars in the parking lot of this "pull in front of your room" type of motor lodge. She told him 2 rooms - one had a king bed, the other had 2 queen beds. I was a little suspect so I asked to see them first. He walked me down a couple doors from the "sketchy" office and showed me the king bed room 1st. One look at it and I said forget it - then the "cleaning" lady showed up and said the markings I saw on the bed were "just cigarette burns and stains that wouldn't come out in the wash". They tried to get me to look at the other room but I could smell something nasty as soon as they opened the door and said NO WAY & walked briskly back to my vehicle. On top of the nasty looking and smelly rooms the walls were looking horrible and the place really needed to be torn down. They were asking $65 a night ! At that rate they could have at least painted and bought new blankets (at least at Value Village) or something - they should be ashamed of themselves trying to rent these rooms - JUST AWFUL !

Trinidad seemed to be a bit pricey, possibly because it is a gateway to the rocky mountains but it was hard to find an affordable accommodation. After some searching we accidentally ran into Frontier Motel. The first impression could be it's a little shady but it's worth looking a little further. The place offers so much with exactly nothing. It may sound a bit woolly but nothing describes it better. Just walk out the room and look around, i am sure you directly know what i mean.

The place is obviously under management. Our room was freshly remodeled, clean and very comfortable. Great location, close to everything yet surprisingly quiet at night. The staff was polite and courteous. We will stay there again. S.Sheldon Chief. Intrepid Investigations

I like to try these older Motor Court properties when I can find them. AND generally have a good experience - but not at this one. First appearance was good, metal lawn chairs on the walk outside of the rooms, room and bed looked great even though it had an old style analogue T.V. Bathroom was tiny and the shower dark but clean. The toilet flushed good. Only problem I saw with my initial inspection was that the door had to be slammed shut to get the lock to latch. No amenities though. Not even a bar a soap. Their sign said it also had a cafe but it looked like it hadn't had a customer in a decade or two. The parking lot never gets washed off so by the time I had made a couple of trips outside there was a layer of sandy grit all over the floor. The T.V./Direct TV setup was all but impossible to figure out. That was OK though since I was on a solo bike trip and just wanted to get some rest for the night. Now for the bad: First time I used the toilet - no flush. Looking inside the tank the valve had been broken off and the water supply line had been shut off at the wall. Obviously the management knew the toilet was not working, filled the tank with water so it would flush once, then rented the room anyway. At the office all they could do was to give me a plastic container to transfer water from the sink to the tank so it would flush again. Really??? Got to bed but at 2:30 A.M. woke up itching. Not sure they had changed the sheets from the last guest or three. Luckily had some anti-bacterial wipes with me that stopped the itching. Spent the rest of the night on top of the bed spread and did not use their pillows. All I wanted out of a hotel that night was a place to sleep and clean up. They offered the bare minimum, then failed miserably at that. Couldn't pay me to stay here again.
