Our family has spent years vacationing at Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort - but recent changes (price, overcrowding, poor pool location choice) left us feeling like it was no longer worth it for us.

That is when I found Antero Hot Springs (we stayed in the Chalk Creek Chalet)! Just down the street, it provided an upgrade to the resort cabins.

First, the cabin was significantly larger (five queen beds in two bedrooms & walkout basement vs three queens in one bedroom & a loft).

Second, the living spaces where much nicer - there were three distinct places to read, games, talk, etc - and that doesn't even include the kitchen counter/bar.

Third, there were 2.5 bathrooms! The regular cabin at the resort has one. That is a luxury family and friends could not overstate.

Finally, having a private soaking pool was a godsend. The soaking pools at the resort have become so overcrowded that it is often hard to find a spot. That stinks when it is your primary reason for being there.

I cannot wait to see the renovated version. Writing this review was the second thing I did, right after I booked our next stay!

My husband and I have been coming to these cabins for 12 years. We've gone with another couple for the last 6 years so we can afford to go every spring and fall now. If you expect 5 star luxury, this is not the place for you. If you want a real, rustic, Colorado experience, this is your place. The cabins are legit and each one is over 100 years old. They are full of rustic charm and have always been spotless when we've arrived for our stays. The cabins have always had everything we have needed for our stays and we love to see the upgrades that seem to happen every year. All you need for your stay is good food, good drink, good company, and a cozy bathrobe. I really have resisted leaving a review since it's so hard to get a reservation here but I had to give an honest review on this lovely Colorado experience.

My wife and I try to go to the Antero Hot Springs Cabins at least twice a year for a four day weekend. We find the spring and fall seasons are best for the enjoyment of the soaking pool and to avoid the summer tourist season.

We always stay in the smallest of the cabins - Cottonwood. While not looking like much from the outside (see pictures on website) it is clean, cozy and comfortable inside and has all you need to prepare meals and enjoy the surrounding area.

The highlights for us is the large stone fireplace which is the centerpiece of the cabin and is great to sit in the living room and read on those chilly spring and fall evenings. However, what we really go for is the private soaking pool where you can sit in a clean pool of hot springs water and where you can't even begin to count the stars that are in the sky on a clear night.

Another big plus for us is for what the Cottonwood cabin DOESN'T have: Wi-Fi, a television and limited (if any) cell service. There is a landline phone for emergencies of if you simply need to keep in touch with someone. Read, soak, tour the area and, as much as anything else, relax and enjoy the quiet.

The Antero Hot Springs Cabins are about a 15 minute drive from Buena Vista and all that it has to offer in terms of excellent restaurants, shopping and regular events that are always fun in a small town. Traveling south from Nathrop, you will arrive in Salida in about 25 minutes. Salida is a little more "artsy", and larger, than BV; but an a great place to spend a day.

One of the best places to stay - if you enjoy quiet, hot springs and a great mountain location - in Colorado.

Above month indicate is actually cancelation month. Have not visited yet.
My wife and I had to cancel a planned stay roughly 7 months in advance and received an online alert from our credit card co that it was charged a $40 cancelation fee. As anyone knows who rents these wonderful cabins, they are very costly. We have enjoyed them with our family multiple times and feel we have been a consistent repeat customer. While during this COVID Pandemic I was forced to retire early and due to lung issues have been quarantined now for roughly 4 months. We decided to postpone celebrating my wife’s 60th BD we had planned at the Hot Springs. We did vow to hold off until we could re-schedule, basically putting this on hold! For her BD this year I gave her a save the date(s) card and was actually going to re-book for late 2021!
After a couple of corresponding messages simply stating my frustration and even indicating no more response was needed and we were going to let it go, the owner decided to fire back one more time with messaging that would be insulting to anyone’s intelligence! She basically said that the fee was to pay for costs her employees incur to the business for that missed period on the calendar. Sorry but that is the dumbest thing I could have expected to here in relation to this.
Anyone who knows this place knows that in normal times it will get booked as it stays booked.
In the small print it does indicate the cancelation fee but also very conveniently, unlike almost all resorts and places as such, leaves out a period of 30, 60 or even 90 days in advance.
So I write this as a “this time shame on them” but next time it would be shame on me”. There will not be a next time due to pure greed to take $40 of hard earned money for simply 2 clicks of a finger. One clicks almost 2 years in advance and the second click 7 months in advance! The prices also continue to climb and to me have well exceeded the value! I challenge all to look around as there is better value with great opportunities to be had!

First off I hardly do reviews. But people should know your are not getting what you pay for. This place is super over priced. The chalk cliff cabin has no ac which I get is the mt. Then you better have screen doors on all the doors for air flow. It was 80 degrees during the day. The security lights outside didn't work so we were not able to use the hot spring late at night. The few fans that were at the cabin were old and noisy. For the amount of money charged this cabin should be in beautiful condition. Make sure you check the dishes as another guest had put back dirty dishes. Be careful if your are allergic to ants they are all over the hot spring pool patio. I was bitten several times while sitting in and out of hot spring pool. The deck had a ton of wood rot so watch your step
It was so so hot and over priced we ended up leaving a day early and eating the money for the last day cuz we were both over it. Not even an apology for the issues. I tried several times before we left to contact Jessica about the issues the morning we left her reply at the end of the day was "for it".
Pretty sure the smoke alarms don't work. There are 2 that are missing and the 2 in the bedrooms upstairs don't look too be working.
The only positive was the hot spring, but it's really not private to the neighbors they see ya all day long.
I just believe for the amount of $375.00 a night things should be in working order.

My husband and I stayed in the Chalk Cliffs Chalet. The exterior is run down but the interior was very nice. The hot springs pool was old with chips in the paint, but was relaxing to sit in. However it was so hot inside the cabin with no air conditioning and no fans, we could barely sleep and ended up leaving a day early. It was $300 a night and we let the owners know we left early and they were not willing to refund a penny. We spent $600 to stay there 14 hours. If you're going to Chaffee County (Buena Vista/Salida area), stay at Mt. Princeton hot springs resort, it's a couple doors down from Antero, half the price, and absolutely amazing!

I grew up in CO, but this was my first time at Antero. We stayed in Cottonwood Cabin.
Pros:
*135 degree hot spring water coming into the soaking tub
*CLEAN.
*Well-stocked (sharp knives, good pans and pots, salt, pepper, a nice grill...)

Cons:
*No shade (I wish they had something over the picnic table, it was HOT)
*Owners were not very friendly

Would I return? Yep.

We stayed at the Cottonwood Cabin. You will love this....If you appreciate all types of wildlife and want to experience the sites, sounds, and a true sense of cabin life during the gold rush era. We had lots of fun and there are many things to do in the area. Still the grocery store in Buena Vista is only 15 minutes away and they stock all sorts of fresh Bison meat. Enjoyed making a bison pot roast in the crock pot inside the cabin. The soaking tub is very rustic, too, but we loved the soaking and relaxing. There is loads of tall grass and nooks and crannies so watch out for snakes in the summer time. Cabin was super clean and the nice floor rugs make it more homey and were much appreciated. Cabin is private, there is no place inside or out in the pool area that anyone can see you.
Functional....There are nice poster notes around letting you know how to work with the naturally heated geothermal water and spring for the dishes, shower, and pool. For safety there is a large first aide kit, fire extinguisher, and working smoke detectors in plain site. There is plenty of wood if you need to use the fireplace; And, a nice gas heating stove that fires up at the flick of the thermostat that, also, has a note with instructions. For added comfort there are extra cozy down comforters on each bed that came in handy on chilly nights. Extra blankets are stashed around, too, as well as plug-in electric heaters.
Many amenities! The plastic stem ware provided comes in handy for wine beside the pool. Multiple hooks for wet towels inside and out. Chef knife set for preparing food. The crock pot was a needed surprise! Everything we needed for cooking was found in the kitchen including aluminum foil.
Good services for our week stay. Towels were changed out for us midweek and a cleaning was offered.
If you have time to get out we enjoyed the hike to the Mary Murphy Mine and Alpine Tunnel.Be sure to visit St. Elmo ghost town and the hauntingly beautiful Iron City Cemetery. Enjoyed the photos and historical stuff inside the cabin, too.
The last night we stayed here we heard deer in the yard at night and I woke up in the morning to a heard of deer in the yard beside the window. There were many fascinating birds every day including the humming birds at the feeder. We were lucky enough to get a couple clear days to see one full sunrise and sunset from the soaking pool. You can see the colors of the sunrise on the chalk like cliff through the pool area opening and the sunset over what looks like the peak of Antero behind the cabin. Both can be watched from inside the pool. It is probably the best choice on the cabins for the pool location.

We stayed at Cottonwood for four nights. I could not recommend this place highly enough. Booking, check-in, and check-out processes were easy. It was easy to find with GPS. It's well-located; a gorgeous three hour drive from the Denver airport and close to tons of trailheads, adventure experiences, and other local attractions. There are other properties around, but privacy was not an issue due to foliage and fencing. It was very quiet. The hot spring pool is absolutely incredible. The steam rising off it in the early morning sun is nothing short of breathtaking. The stargazing is top notch as the cabin is located in a level 1 area on the Bortle (light pollution) scale. You can hear the rushing of Chalk Creek, but there isn't a way to go see it. The cabin itself is ridiculously charming. Lovely wood-burning fireplace, comfy bed and pillows, generally well-appointed kitchen, cozy blankets, board games, books. The guest books go back to at least 2007 and the entries are overwhelmingly positive. I can't wait to go back!

SNAKES everywhere - we seen 7 snakes at one time -- all around the hot spring. One was even lying across the steps to get out of the spring. The cabins are run down and in poor shape. The kitchen floor is so sloped that I experienced vertigo standing there. The kitchen table is warped and not flat. The staircase has cracked steps that actually pinch your feet as you step on them. The electric coffee pot has a short and only works occasionally. The RO filter only filters approximately 10 oz. of water over a 2 hour period. It took 18 minutes for the water to get hot in the shower. They do not provide any amenities whatsoever such as: coffee creamer packages, tea bags, shampoo. Very few towels. The curtains do not completely cover the bedroom window. Dogs barked all night - making it hard to sleep. The cabins are so close together without a complete privacy fence, so you can see the other renters walking around. You can hear their conversations while you sit in the pool. For this price, you would expect a bit of care and luxury - not a dump!
