We arrived quite late to this hotel, got a room with two double beds, in the two story building. I have to be honest, probably one of the worst nights sleep I have had in a long time. I think the bed was old or something, but both myself and my man had a rough night. The room was clean... More

Adena and Jeremy are very professional, courteous and helpful. I have been staying at the Mountain Motel at least every 3 months for two years now and have always had a pleasant stay. In my opinion it is the best value in Salida. Each room has a different theme and charm to it.

Quick easy check-in, parking right outside the door of our cabin, and then the fun began. The decor is Americana Old West all the way, and for my wife and I, it was a trip down memory lane to both our childhoods and some of the great places we've stayed during our lives. Knotty pine interior, quilt bed throws, and... More

We were tired ready to enjoy our last extra time off of "parental rest" came through on the way home from Denver.... Drove through town checked out a couple other spots where the money for what you're getting just didn't seem to be balanced at all this place was amazing we open the door after getting a good deal on... Found this little gem on the side of the road and didn't expect much because it was so late at night and it wasn't a major chain. We were pleasantly surprised when we opened the door, as everything was as clean as can be and the room featured all the amenities you'd expect including a flat screen tv, a refrigerator... More

This was a clean, quiet motel to stay in. The suite was roomy and a great value. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was beautiful even though there was no bath tub, only a shower. The suite we stayed in was right next to a construction site so there was a little noise, but not much. I would recommend... More

My wife and I were very pleasantly surprised by the Mountain Motel. The room we stayed in was very comfortable and roomy. It appeared that things have been remodeled recently, and it was well done. We would definitely stay here again.

We changed our plans at the last minute and spent a night in Salida to adjust to altitude before going on up higher, and picked the Mountain Motel based on Trip Advisor reviews., and were very pleased. Number one (to us at least) it's very dog friendly, with a nice grassy area right out the back door of the rooms... More

Driving to the motel I started getting worried but once in the room was very surprised. Spacious, clean, soft towels and comfortable bed. Walls were a little thin so you could hear the neighbors moving around but overall was pleased.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hitchin' Post Motel, formerly know as the Mountain Motel welcomed its first guests in 1947. In 1996, six more rooms were built to accommodate the tremendous influx of visitors to the motel. The Hitchin' Post Motel has been a family endeavor, being locally owned and operated since 1947... Over 55 years! In December 2011, the owners of The Mountain Motel felt that it was time to showcase the charm and history of the motel by changing the name to The Hitchin' Post Motel representing the by-gone era of the 1940's, 50's and 60's. After transforming the office area into a lounge and reading room, the energetic owners set to work to begin outfitting the remaining nine rooms with an exhaustive inventory of Mountain Western Retro furniture, fixtures and room decor. Their vision to make the Hitchin'Post, Salida's FIRST "boutique mote;" and reinventing an American icon - the roadside motel is coming to life!Foremost in the minds of the staff at the Hitchin'Post Motel is to provide guests with a comfortable, cozy, distinctive and memorable stay. One-size DOES NOT fit all! Each room has been reimagined to bring in the owner's own style to make each room personable and "one-of-a-kind." Room decor is "Mountain Western Retro" - reminiscent of properties dating back to the 1940's, 1950's, and early 1960's. We consider our motel an ever evolving work of "motel art," where updates and decor are an on-going effort. We pride ourselves on being the only local motel to bring the "boutique motel" experience to guests visiting Salida.A locally owned motel, the Hitchin' Post Motel is noticeably different in look and feel from other hotel/motel chains - we love it when our guests are pleasantly "surprised" to find that the motel offers much more than a room to sleep. We invite YOU to share our "Mountain Western Retro" experience! Whether it be... Sharing a bowl of chili on a cold day with other guests, or sipping the special "Hitchin'Post Ice Tea on a hot day... Your stay at the Hitchin'Post Motel in Salida, Colorado will be a memory to share forever and keep you coming back, year after year. ... more   less
