True to its historical qualities, the Historic Western Hotel looks and feels like it has travelled through time. So, don't look for a plush modern-day experience unless you want to be disappointed. It's exquisite for 1891. It's primitive for people who expect 21st century comforts. We chose the suites for our family of six. The kids were not thrilled. But... More

We stayed at The Historic Western Hotel in the last weekend of September. Upon arrival in Ouray, we found a well-preserved Victorian mining village bringing you back to an era gone-by. The Historic Western Hotel perfectly fits in and adds to that old-west feeling. The hotel itself was built in the late 1800's, and its interior appeared to date from... More

We ended up staying one night at this hotel when our camping plans fell through due to all of the campsites being full. Fortunately this hotel had two rooms for an incredible price. The hotel itself was very interesting. The layout and the decor really does make you think about how life was in the 1800s. Unfortunately, we also know... More

So the place is on the shabby side -- it was built in 1891, and probably has not seen a decent renovation in many, many years. We ended up here because night was approaching and we decided not to push on to Durango on the Million Dollar Highway. This was the only place in town with rooms available, so we... More

Worst place I've ever stayed. Looks nice on the website, however it's severely run down. Restaurant and bar are closed, they market 2 rooms with balcony however access to the balcony has been closed for quite some time. The doors and windows are caulked shut, loud, no front desk person most of the time so clearly not safe. Broken furniture,... More

We stay at the Historic Western Hotel every year when we visit Ouray, CO. We always stay in room # 9. Private bath, large room with comfortable bed. Reasonably priced too. Very old time feel. We love it! This year we ate all our meals in their restaurant, and we were very happy with food and service. They were very... More

Some history is downright sad. So much potential with authentic historical artifacts everywhere...including cobwebs, broken lamps, dead bugs, filthy stained carpet, duct tape repairs, crumbling plaster, holes in the walls and ceiling, embarrassingly dilapidated furniture, exposed electric wires, bulb-less lights and "vintage" bed sheets probably dating back to the 1970's. Eeewwww! Visited 19 years ago and loved the quaint step... More

I think they still have the original beds, not comfortable. not even the basics provided here like shampoo. paid $125/night. dinner here horrible, didn't want to feed the left overs to my dogs.

Real old time feel of how people stayed in Hotels back in the day....places like this are dying and that is sad. Prices where cheap two if you get a shared bathroom room....which is how they did it back then as well. Only reason I did not give it full stars is because many easily maintainable and easy to fix...
