This is a nice hotel but a bit run down. Carpeting in hallways/rooms old and stained. And if you have any luggage, forget about the 2nd floors. Only stairs to second floor were very steep both in lobby and via back entrance. The rear entrance stairs' banister is partially blocked near the top, you cannot hold on. I was surprised! As for the breakfast, a hard pass. Minimal items to chose from and if you arrive at 830a (closes at 930a) don't expect anything but dried up eggs and such that have been sitting in warming pan since 630am. Just disappointing. They should just stop offering continental free breakfast. As for the room, not sure if it was cleaned. Found several items on the carpet, coffee cup half full in microwave. Towels were hard, kind of like sandpaper on skin! We reported the TV issue, kept turning itself off/died a few times. Front desk advised would be fixed before we returned. That same night, TV went wacko again. (Not much TV watching, just like to watch weather/movie before bedtime) On a positive note - Sheets seemed clean, bed and pillows comfy. Staff was polite and efficient. Honestly did not think this place was worth the price paid. Newer hotels in the area at similar price.

Basic but clean and comfortable. Friendly manager, Ken. Helpful with advise. I did not use pool but looks nice. Breakfast typically served 6:30 to 9, but was available earlier days I was there, which was great for early morning birding. Location was central to Crane Festival events. Nearby Safeway and Sonic. Room does have fridge and microwave, helpful to budget. Recommend!

The Baymont used to be the Sandhill Inn & Suites in Monte Vista, where we had stayed a few times thru the years visiting family in the Valley.
The last time we stayed the place had become threadbare, rundown, dirty and overall just sad to see. Under the Wyndham name they are doing renovations, including the pool, which when we were there before had a ridiculous sign on the door that READ "The pool is not open because it's closed". DUH. Was old it would reopen soon.
I stayed in a single queen room this trip and it was basic but clean and comfortable. New shower and bathroom fixtures; bedding was crisp clean and cozy and the AC actually worked well without making a lot of noise. The breakfast buffet was typical but adequate - scrambled eggs, sausage links, a couple of dry cereals, teas and coffee, bead for toast and fruit. Nothing to shout about but ok.
Looking around you can see they still have work to do - baseboards coming away from the wall, p[int splashes where they had hastily repainted but without much care, the furniture in the room looks like the old stuff other than the new bed/bedding.
I give four stars for the effort being made to bring this hotel back up to par and for the very bright, friendly and helpful desk person who greeted me on arrival and made me feel very welcome. Thanks Bree!
I hope they continue to make improvements going forward and maintain it better than they did the Sandhill.

Wens were dated and smelled funky. First night the room had sort of an antiseptic smell, the second sort of a dirty sour smell. Generally the surfaces seemed clean, and I would guess the carpet needs a deep clean. The hallway certainly did. Beds were very soft.

Breakfast was lackluster, with what tasted like powdered eggs and sausage. The second day there were no waffles. Selection of baked items was very limited. Had milk and yogurt. No oatmeal other than prepackaged.

There are really no common areas, and the swimming pool was out of commission. Kind of a drab place.

If you find yourself in need of a hotel in Monte Vista the Sandhills will take care of your needs. My room was clean. Some items ,like bed spreads, could be updated. The free breakfast was ok, it saved me money. The staff helped me with anything I asked. A little loud in the morning.

Everything about this hotel is clean and friendly. We spent three nights here. Staff is welcoming and friendly and very helpful. Owner/manager is knowledgeable and a great source of info on the area. He was in the breakfast area every morning and provided answers and suggestions for things to do/see.

I was looking for a hotel with a pool for my family vacation and chose this hotel because of the pool. When I arrived there the pool was shut down and I asked why they didn't put on the website that the pool I under construction. I was told it was listed on the website. Just looked and It still shows there is a pool... To some it might not matter but when you chose a hotel with a pool and there isn't one it would be nice to have known! Ruined our nice vacation plan because it was so hot! Also, my room smelled of urine and I was grossed out when walking on the floor so I used extra sheets throughout the room on the floor. To top it off the day manager/concierge was rude and straight-up racist to all Hispanics, Asians, and those not of white color. He watched every move we made like they do in clothing stores. He answered questions rudely and in disgust. I do not recommend anyone with color stay there. Even the people of white color were uncomfortable with his behavior. It's a shame they have someone like that as the hotel customer representative. Especially now days!!

AWFUL. We arrived at 230am just ready to crash. We were place in a disgusting room. I said something, we were moved to another room. Much to our suprise this room was dirty as well. There was a dirty towel behindd the door. The shower curtain rod was falling off the wall. The mattress pad was disgusting. No bedding for the pullout couch, when asked xthwy gave us a dirty pillow. We went for breakfast in the morning there was dry cereal, pastries, and juice available. Jason the front desk attendant who had his feet up on the desk in office and had no interest in helping us. The pool was also closed.

We stayed in a room with a king bed and bunk beds. It was perfect!
We used the pool and hot tub each day. Awesome amenity.
Now..... we are talking Monte Vista! You should not expect elevators and other things people are complaining about. Alamosa is just down the road and has plenty of chain hotels.
But for the BEST location for the Crane Festival you cannot beat Sandhill Inn.
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
The room was extremely fresh, clean and NEW!
Plenty of parking with convenient entrances.
Easy check in and out.
My grandson loved the waffles at breakfast and the indoor heated pool and hot tub and the bunk beds.
Did I mention the location????
Cause you can’t beat it!!!!!!! Especially for those early morning treks out to the Refuge.

We stayed over-night when driving through Colorado to go from Cortez to the Springs. The place was ok, I mean the room was clean and comfortable. They have two stories but no elevator so we were happy to be on the ground floor since my husband has bad knees; however, the hotel is either not built well or an elephant was staying above us! So noisy! And it went on until the late hours and then started up at 5am! Not sure I would stay here again just for that reason, the bed was comfy, they did offer a quick breakfast but nothing to brag about.
